Women’s Wellness: Hormone Balancing
Are you feeling out of balance? Fatigue, memory loss, mood swings, anxiety, hot flashes, poor sleep, and weight gain are just a few of the many signs of hormone imbalances. At Wild Moon Collective, we offer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)—a natural and customized approach to help women restore their energy, confidence, and overall well-being.
What is BHRT?
Unlike synthetic hormones, BHRT uses plant-based hormones that are chemically identical to the ones your body naturally produces. This means fewer side effects and a more natural, balanced way to regain your health. Whether you’re dealing with symptoms of menopause, perimenopause, or other hormonal changes, BHRT offers a safe, effective solution.
We understand that every woman’s body is unique. Our expert providers will work closely with you to create a personalized BHRT plan based on your specific hormone needs. Through comprehensive testing and ongoing support, we help you achieve optimal hormone balance and get back to feeling your best. It’s Time to Feel Like YOU Again. Don’t let hormonal changes hold you back. Take control of your health and vitality with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy.
Welcome to North Shore City Lifestyle
I’m thrilled to present the very first issue of North Shore City Lifestyle!
Our debut theme is “Thankful,” which feels especially appropriate as we approach Thanksgiving. I’m deeply grateful for the support of this incredible community and for everyone who contributed to this issue. I’ve forged wonderful new connections and look forward to many more!
The holiday season invites us to pause and reflect on the past year, while also looking ahead. It’s a time to gather with loved ones and to generously give back to our communities.
In this issue, you’ll find stories that highlight the power of gratitude in everyday moments — from touching accounts of generosity to practical ways to cultivate thankfulness in your daily life. We hope these pages inspire you to embrace the joy that comes with being thankful.
We’re also excited to feature Gratitude Generation, a local nonprofit that supports other organizations dedicated to meaningful causes. Our cover story highlights Timothy Canning, owner of Foxtail on the Lake in Des Plaines and Foxtail Downers Grove. He shares his excitement about joining our vibrant community as he and his business partner, David Villegas, prepare to open a new location in Glenview.
Our mission is to showcase the rich offerings of the North Shore and to focus on the things that matter most to you—our readers, for whom this magazine is created each month. We are incredibly thankful for your support. You are the reason we strive to bring you inspiring content, foster connections, and celebrate the beautiful moments in our historic community. Your engagement will shape the future of this publication, and for that, we are truly grateful.
Wishing you a season filled with peace, love, and gratitude. Warmly,
November 2024

OWNERS OF THE POPULAR RESTAURANT GROUP WILL OPEN THE FOXTAIL GLENVIEW HOUSE IN 2025
ARTICLE BY AMELIA LEVIN | PHOTOGRAPHY
Attention North Shore foodies: Foxtail is coming to Glenview.
Having amassed a following at the original location in Downers Grove and an even bigger one at Foxtail on the Lake in Des Plaines, chef/owner Tim Canning’s latest venue, The Foxtail Glenview House, will open in 2025.
“I can’t tell you how many people have come to Foxtail on the Lake and told us they are so excited for the Glenview location,”
BY
REGAN BARONI, MILAN TOMIC
The Foxtail Glenview House owner Tim Canning describes the menu
Canning says. “We have many regulars from the North Shore that love our food and the experience in Des Plaines but wanted something like that closer to home.”
Wish granted: Canning and his business partner, David Villegas, have been working with the Village of Glenview and DSU Architects to renovate the historic Glenview House at 1843 Glenview Road— part of a mission to revitalize downtown.
THE BUILD-OUT
Glenview House, with its signature, redhued brick and wooden black and gold sign, has had various inhabitants since 1878, including Glenview’s City Hall and
taverns. Most recently, Canning’s brother operated a bar and restaurant out of the two-story space, but permanently closed in March 2023.
With experience renovating historic properties, Canning and Villegas will preserve the integrity of Glenview House’s façade. Inside, they will transform the roughly 7,000-square-foot space into a lively bar, main dining room and upstairs event space, totaling about 250 seats, in addition to a year-round patio.
“We are working with the Village of Glenview to build a double-decker patio with the louvred trellis that have fully-automated, retractable screens on the roof
Foxtail owner Tim Canning plans to recreate the famed raw bar from Foxtail on the Lake at his newest location in Glenview

to allow the sun in when it’s warm and that can close if it’s raining,” says Villegas. “We love seeing our customers’ reactions when we’ve wowed them by repurposing really cool spaces.”
THE FOX FOOD
Canning, a graduate of Kendall College who worked at Chicago Chef Stephen Chiappetti’s restaurants and spent nearly a decade working in Boston with acclaimed Chef Tony Maws, says the menu at The Foxtail Glenview House will be similar to those at his other properties. “We’re going to keep our core menu items and our signature raw bar — I like to
describe our menu as Mediterranean with coastal influences.”
For culinary inspiration, Canning leans heavily on Foxtail Corporate Chef Maya Nahouli, a native of Lebanon who has worked in kitchens all over the world and in the U.S., owned a restaurant in Mississippi, ran her own food truck called Shawarma On the Go, and served as the executive chef of Bar Siena in Chicago prior to joining the Foxtail group.
At Foxtail, regulars seek out Nahouli’s housemade pita and flatbreads baked fresh daily in the restaurant’s hearth oven, along with her scratch-made hummus, labneh and muhamarra; spiced brick chicken;
grilled octopus; famous beef shawarma, and fun appetizers like smoked Lebanesestyle wings and ouzo-spiked saganaki with shrimp, charred shishito peppers and grilled crostini.
“Our guests love our taleggio flatbread with mushrooms, arugula and honey-truffle sauce,” she says. “We also have vegan dishes and I use a lot of vegetables, from greens to squash, zucchini, eggplant and harder-to-find vegetables and herbs like salsify and savory.”
Salads sell well, but so does The Fox Burger, a smash burger presented Lebanese-style with coleslaw and housemade garlic sauce. Nahouli’s also known for combining cuisines — her paella features a traditional saffron broth studded with some Middle Eastern spices and served over orzo instead of rice. The kid’s menu features grilled shrimp, flatbread, and housemade chicken fingers and mac n’ cheese.
Canning, who has family members living in Glenview, can’t wait for the opening. “I’m excited to bring amazing food to the area with really great service and hospitality,” he says. “We definitely don’t want to be a one-and-done place; we want to be somewhere you can go a few times a week and feel ecstatic every time you’re there. And then come back for Sunday brunch or happy hour or special occasions or with a group of friends. The Village of Glenview has been incredibly supportive of what we’re trying to do and we’re thrilled to soon join this community.”

Building a Grateful Community
ARTICLE BY JILL RIVKIN, CO-FOUNDER AND SECRETARY PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY GRATITUDE GENERATION
LOCAL NONPROFIT GRATITUDE GENERATION WORKS TO BOLSTER SERVICE-MINDED YOUTH WHILE SUPPORTING NEIGHBORS IN NEED
At Deerfield-based nonprofit Gratitude Generation (g2), it’s always the season for thankfulness.
The organization’s mission is to instill gratitude into future generations through education and service. Numerous monthly programs support neighbors in need to the north in Waukegan and North Chicago as well as across the North Shore and into Norridge and other parts of Chicago.
As we approach g2’s 7th anniversary, our origin story tells a tale filled with passion, perseverance and thankfulness. The five women founders came together in late 2017 after a social media post sought like-minded parents who wanted to teach gratitude to their children by having them donate toys to children in need. Hundreds of people chimed in. Conversations
Top image: The future is bright thanks to the hard work of these student leaders who applied for and earned positions on Gratitude Generation’s Teen Board & Service Squad.
continued, and it was evident that the community wanted more accessible, free, hands-on service projects for kids of all ages and their families. After spending many hours researching, learning and networking with others, the founders launched a nonprofit in just a few months.
Since its inception, g2’s programming has never stopped. Even during the stressful times of the pandemic, g2 volunteers collected and distributed food and personal care items for those in need across the North Shore and Chicagoland.
Bye Bye-Boredom Bags is a program born out of the pandemic when schools were closed and that continues today. Each bag comprises six small, non-electric, no-Wi-Fi-required items that kids can play with on their own during summer breaks and vacations. Other programs teach gratitude through tools such as journals and jars.
Studies indicate that children and teens who participate in programs like these are happier, healthier and experience more success in school. Gratitude Generation’s goal is to recognize the GLOW (Gratitude Lights Our World) in communities by helping people become more aware of what they have, how they can help and what their actions mean to the health and wellness of others. How To Decorate Tables With Noteworthy November Flair
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
• An old dough bowl or wood trencher makes a great low centerpiece when filled with seasonal pumpkins, gourds, pinecones and flowering branches.
• Fill a stoneware sugar bowl with seeded eucalyptus, chrysanthemums and pears.
• Use one or a nest of baskets, floral foam and some blooms to craft a themed stunner.
• Incorporate family heirlooms by using an inherited (or thrifted) antique teapot, surrounded by other vintage finds.
• Stack two cake plates on top of each other with bite-size edibles; add other, shorter floral arrangements in pitchers or vases, if desired.
• Add soft candlelight with rustic textures of wood and lots of fall color via an assortment of fresh and faux gourds, silk sunflowers and dried seed pods.
use vintage finds
Whether
traditional or modern, formal or fussfree, Thanksgiving centerpieces set a memorable ambiance for November gatherings.
Make an edible bread cornucopia, ‘horn of plenty,’ for the Thanksgiving table using refrigerated bread or pizza dough, a plastic bottle mold and aluminum foil. Wrap the bottle with foil, make a tail at one end and then layer adjoining strips of dough on the foil. Brush cornucopia with melted butter, remove the plastic bottle and bake at 350 F for 25 to 30 minutes on the lower rack, or until it turns a golden, shiny brown. Fill with sweet or savory nibbles, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, gourds, nuts, rosemary breadstick twists or even cookies, for an impressive centerpiece that’ll keep guests happily munching while they wait for the main meal to begin.

Cooking With Fresh Herbs

BY JANIE JONES
Garlic Herb Butter
This butter is versatile and goes with just about anything. You can use this on top of bread, popcorn, veggies, as a sandwich spread and more.
Ingredients
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
• 4 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
• 1 tablespoon herb of your choice (dill, basil or oregano are my go-to herbs.)
• 1 clove garlic, chopped
• 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• cracked pepper to taste
Process
Add all ingredients in a food processor (or mix by hand in a bowl). Transfer butter mixture on parchment paper or plastic wrap. Cover butter tightly and roll into a log. Place in refrigerator until firm. Enjoy!
Add a little kick to your traditional popcorn by incorporating herbs in with the butter. You won’t be disappointed with this buttery and savory combination.
Ingredients
• 13 tablespoons coconut oil (or olive oil if you prefer)
• 3/4 cup popcorn kernels
• 5 tablespoons butter, melted
• 2 teaspoons garlic salt
• 2 teaspoons parsley (dried)
• 1 teaspoon thyme
Process
Add oil to the bottom of a pot and melt over medium heat. Add popcorn kernels and place lid on top of the pot and heat over medium heat until kernels are popped, shaking pan occasionally. Melt butter in a separate dish and add seasonings. Pour on top, and enjoy!
