When NBC5 anchor Laura Harris Means and business leader Patrick Means learned to play the violin as children, neither could have dreamed that their love of classical music would eventually provide a connection to their life partner. The couple had one of their first dates at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and married at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in December 2023. The pair will chair the DSO’s 2024 Gala featuring the DSO and acclaimed pianist Lang Lang on Saturday, September 28 at the Meyerson. The annual blacktie affair benefits the orchestra’s education and community outreach initiatives. For more details, visit dallassymphony.org/gala

Marked by timeless influences and innovative style, Wilson shares the story behind her flourishing textile brand.
Rooted in a passion for textiles and a quest to find unique fabrics for her interior design projects, Caitlin Wilson’s journey began unexpectedly on the other side of the globe. “The story really goes back to 2009 when I was living in Dubai and designing for local clientele,” Wilson says. “I’ve always been drawn to textiles and patterns in a space, but finding great fabrics for my projects was proving difficult.”
When her husband’s job brought them to Hong Kong, the light bulb went off — why not design her own fabrics? “It was an exciting venture,” she says. “Within the six months we lived there, I was able to design 14 patterns and have them printed.”
Upon returning to the states, she launched Caitlin Wilson Textiles out of a spare bedroom in their Philadelphia home. “I spent countless hours cutting swatches and creating the website in those early days,” Wilson says. “With the help of a few interns, I was able to operate this small business relatively efficiently, and after just a few short months, I realized this might be something much bigger than I had planned.”
Juggling business and raising her young children, Wilson’s designs quickly gained traction, thanks in part to her growing Instagram following. From textiles,
she expanded into rugs in 2014 and wallpaper in 2015, each new line a testament to her love of vibrant colors and intricate patterns. “I’ve always tried to weave color stories throughout every project so there’s a cohesive feel while still having a lot of personality — textiles and patterns are the perfect tools to do that,” she says.
After moving around a bit more, Wilson and her husband decided to settle somewhere they wanted to stay — Highland Park. Here, she found a community that embraced her passion for classy, timeless design. “It’s so refreshing to see both young and older customers embracing the traditional and ‘returning to pretty,’” she says.
A nod to her recent coffee table book, Return to Pretty, which showcases how to give new life to traditional styles, Wilson’s love of old-world decoration and classical design is greatly inspired by her travels, specifically to England and France. This attraction to vintage style is manifested in Wilson’s new antique venture, Collected, in which she collaborated with an English brand to create new textiles with archival prints featured on pillows and reupholstered antiques.
“I’m interested in making a more ecofriendly process for clientele who are interested in antiques, but are unsure how to incorporate them or purchase quality pieces,” she says. “Collected takes a lot of the legwork out and creates a vetting process for those investment pieces that can be especially impactful in a space and stand the test of time.”
Wilson’s blend of spontaneity and strategic vision often lead to her best ideas, such as her best-selling Persian rugs, featuring traditional designs reinterpreted in her signature colorways. Another key influence on Wilson’s design process comes from her fashion sensibilities.
“I often design for clients with patterns or palettes they dress in or the colors that complement them best,” she says. “I design products in a similar way — creating patterns and pieces that will enrich a space. Just like adding jewelry or a great belt to an outfit — the
addition of a unique pillow or the color of a fabulous rug can be transformative in the way you feel in a space.”
For Wilson, design isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces — it’s about infusing homes with warmth, elegance and personality. With each new pattern or product, she invites us to embrace
color, celebrate timeless beauty and make every space a reflection of our own unique style. Catch a glimpse of Wilson’s biggest holiday collection yet in the Armstrong Bradfield Preschool Association Holiday Tour, where she’ll be featuring her home and latest products.

KEEP YOUR PLATE IN STYLE WITH THESE FOODS THAT WILL HELP YOU LOOK AND FEEL GOOD
Vitamin A is essential to protecting the corneas of our eyes. By taking care of your corneas, you can extend the health of your eyesight and reduce vision loss with age. An easy way to remember what to eat for healthy eyes is to look for orange foods. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash are all high in vitamin A.
Did you know that vitamin A is also imperative for skin health? So while you’re caring for your corneas, you’re also boosting your outer glow. If you want to kick it up a notch, be intentional about eating plenty of foods with omega-3 fatty acids to reduce acne and inflammation and help your skin produce its own collagen. For your healthy fats, go for flax seed, nuts, chia seeds, and fish.
For soft, flowing tresses, make sure you’re getting an equal amount of B vitamins in your diet. We naturally get plenty of B-6 because it’s in most grains, but it’s easier to end up with a biotin or B-12 deficiency if you don’t pay attention. Focus on foods like salmon, eggs, spinach, and broccoli for a healthy balance of B vitamins for your hair.
As a University Park Resident, Mother of two, and Stepmother of one, I fully recognize the importance of capturing life’s most treasured Seasons.
I also, understand how difficult it can be to get everyone out the door, dressed, and ready to go, with no tears.. including MOM! It is my focus, to help this process be as painless, simple, and efficient as possible. Prior to your session day, we will discuss the exact “vision” you desire. We will then go into your session knowing exactly what I need to achieve. With 10 years experience in photography, and a true passion for my career, I will make sure you are happy with your final results. Lastly and Always at the top of my priority list is I want your experience to be fun, relaxed, and enjoyable for the whole family! After all “These are the days” - Van Morrison.

As owner of Botox Bar & Aesthetics, Brentney Blair aims to educate her clients around improving their health through aesthetic treatments and functional medicine.
ARTICLE BY KELSEY VANDERSCHOOT PHOTOGRAPHY BY GRANT MILLER
Brentney Blair’s dream of working in aesthetics began while watching Beverly Hills plastic surgeons on Dr. 90210 . “I thought ‘I wonder how I can get into that industry without being a physician,’” the now registered nurse and laser safety officer remembers. She was inspired to pursue nursing by her mother, who was also a registered nurse and a public health director. Now, as the owner of Botox Bar & Aesthetics in Dallas’ Design District, Blair and her team have performed more than 450,000 preventative and corrective anti-aging procedures— ranging from Botox and fillers, to the salmon sperm facial that Kim Kardashian recently made famous.
Blair went to medical school to become a nurse in 2008, after serving as a hairdresser since the age of 18 and earning a degree in criminology. At the time, there was no direct pathway to becoming a nurse injector and only three certification schools in the nation, according to Blair. “I just kind of got into it by perseverance,” she says. Upon graduating, she became an operating nurse at Baylor while obtaining her certification in cosmetic injecting. She got her first job in plastic surgery at a place that offered many deals from Groupon, as Blair puts it. “It was a lot of unrealistic expectations for low budget,” she recalls. From there, she took a job with a plastic surgeon for two years before working with a med spa in Highland Park.
All the while, she continued training and professional education. “I’ve probably spent $50,000 on continuing education,” she says. Blair has trained with top providers in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, including Dr. Zein Obagi of Obagi Medical Skincare and ZO Skin Health. Around 2018, the medical director under whom Blair was working encouraged her to start her own business. She began freelancing for two years before launching Botox Bar & Aesthetics in 2020. “I wanted to not be the most expensive, but not be the cheapest. I wanted to treat everyone, whether you have money or not, the same,” Blair says.
Botox Bar follows a conservative aesthetics philosophy—conserving and enhancing patients’ natural beauty—and offers CONTINUED >
functional medicine treatments, such as microbiome testing, to improve internal health. “I love helping people better themselves and feel good on the inside and outside,” Blair says. “Aesthetics and functional medicine are colliding, and we consider ourselves like functional health coaches.” With all her patients, Blair is big on education. “We try to continually educate you on what is happening— whether you are 20 or 70 years old,” she says.
New Botox Bar clients receive a consultation, where Blair and staff discuss their goals and options before building a customized treatment plan. Staff explain other epigenetic and lifestyle factors that may be influencing clients’ perceived problem areas to help the client make an informed choice about what they would like to pursue and
what is comfortably within their budget. “I always ask your top three goals aesthetically when you come to see me, and we always start with number one, because, if you don’t correct number one, you always go back to that flaw,” she says. Once treatment is complete, she guides patients through periodic follow ups to help maintain desired results, since none of Botox Bars’ procedures are permanent. “I always say, ‘At one point, you are going to be grandma or Dolly Parton, so you have two choices in life,’” Blair laughs.
Her advice for those considering injections or aesthetic treatments? Do ample research. Blair says there are companies that certify unlicensed professionals, then pressure them to gain clients. This incentivizes purchasing cheap product illegally overseas or online. “Ask about credentialing and don’t do something you’re not really comfortable with,” Blair advises. Additionally, every aesthetic provider will have their own personal touch on treatments and results, so it’s important for a client to know the style they are looking for. “It’ like an artist: They’re all going to have their paintbrush, and they’re all going to paint differently,” Blair says. Once a client finds a provider they like, they should stick with that provider.
Going forward, Blair wants to continue to focus on education for aesthetics and functional medicine, eventually creating a teaching program for young nurses. “I’d like to get into the teaching part, if time allows,” she says. She also hopes to open more Botox Bar locations outside Dallas, if the market allows. “Right now, Dallas is a saturated market for med spas, and we have a huge black market problem in Texas, so we will see,” Blair says. “I think [the market saturation] will come full circle. It’s just to be determined. I’d like to grow.”
