Hello 2021! HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME TO THE WELLNESS EDITION OF RED ROCK LIFEST YLE! As I write this letter, the promise of an effective COVID-19 vaccine is being heavily reported. Personally, I can’t think of a better way to say Aud Lang Syne to 2020 and the tragic pandemic that came with it.

I heard someone say the coronavirus has been a revealer and an accelerator. Accelerating the development of a vaccine for the good of the globe has been remarkable and historic. This will absolutely be an impetus for improved health and wellness worldwide and it could not come soon enough. On an individual basis, this pandemic has certainly revealed triggers of emotional, financial, and physical insecurity. Achieving wellness is unique to everyone and can come in many forms: Mindfulness, Financial Wellness, Safety, Beauty & Vitality, Losing Fat (not just weight) and Personal Training. We found inspiration in the members of our Red Rock Lifestyle community around these topics that we are delighted to share.

Ray admits to spending a lot of money in her professional fitness gear. But it’s the kind of investment she said is worth every penny. “Being in sports can be expensive. She said his advice, sometimes given out during their rides, have been priceless. “I have gone through people that make promises but didn’t produce when it comes to growing your money,” said Ray. “But with my financial advisor, he explains things and then makes me money. He

out about finances now, and I love that.”
“I buy homes, fix them up, and now I can live comfortably just off my rental properties. Anything I do off my deals is a bonus.” Not having to worry about money and doing what you love is a goal most of us want to achieve. But after a challenging year for so many people in 2020, paving the way for a new year of brighter financial future proves even more poignant.
Ray learned that f itnes s and f inance c an go hand in hand when she found out her f inancial advisor also loves to bike and they have spent time together on the roads and trails through areas like Red Rock .
When asked what advice Ray has for others looking to be where she is financially, no matter what career path they are on, she said finding the right financial advisor is key, when the time is right. “I have had a very bad experience with money managers in the past, and I am so happy to have found a great person now.” Ray said the day she met up with her current financial advisor, who’s also based in Summerlin, was the same day she found out her former accountant was going to jail. “I was shocked,” said Ray. “And it was my current financial advisor who went above and beyond his duty to help me find another local accountant. You need someone on your side if you don’t want to worry about money. I am not a guru when it comes to the stock market, so I rely on my financial advisor who can educate me.” Another piece of advice Ray has for her fellow professionals is to invest in what you love. Aside from her real estate career, Ray is also a triathlete who has taken part in competitions around the world.

WELLNESS HAS BECOME A BUZZ WORD, YET ITS POWER IS INCREDIBLE. MINDFULNESS IS
A COMMITMENT TO SELF THROUGH MEDIATION AND MINDFULNESS
STUDIED AND AGREED UPON BY YOGIS AND NEUROSCIENTISTS ALIKE, AND MEDITATION HAS BEEN PROVEN TO REWIRE OUR BRAINS AND CREATE NEW NEURAL PATHWAYS. THEN WHY IS IT SO HARD? Perhaps it is because we live in a culture that requires processes and compliance, yet mindfulness is deeply personal. It is fluid and doesn't require a special pillow, pose, alter or guru. You simply need the desire to live an intentional life and a burgeoning awareness of self. As you begin to live intentionally, you'll notice when you need to take a break, and exactly what your brain, body or soul need in that moment. You begin to understand that a quick run will clear your mind, or the answer you are looking for is on the other side of your meditation. You begin to perform better at work and your relationships flourish. THE ONLY THING REQUIRED? A commitment to self. All else falls in line once you make the brave decision to understand how you operate, and what you most need to perform at your highest levels emotionally, mentally and physically. So many have let mindfulness fall under "self care,” and placed it on the shelf with the rose and bergamot candles, yet it allows you to take control of your command center; your brain and body. It signals neurotransmitters, creates focus, perspective and the list continues.

MINDFULNESS PRACTICES TO TRY Breath work refers to practices in which the conscious control of breath influences your state. While breathing mindfully it is very difficult to concentrate on much else, and is many times the gateway to a meditative state. Meditative practices include breath, guided, mantra and sound, and can be found on many apps such as LIV Pocket Coach for Apple. What you will find over time is that it is not the quality of the meditation, but the value seen in the life lived between your practice. Sensory experiences are an incredible way to establish presence and light up areas of your brain that allow your limbic system to rest. Simply becoming deeply aware of your senses at a given time creates space. If you follow this immersive experience with gratitude, you begin to tap into serotonin, your “feel good” hormone. As you grow in your mindfulness practices you will find they adjust and change as you do. They truly become a commitment to yourself, and effectively, everyone you love and live life alongside, now and into the future. Jeanette Schneider is Founder and CEO of LIV Media, the creator of the award-winning LIV Pocket Coach app for Apple, the host of podcast The Love is Viral Show, and author of LORE: Harnessing Your Past to Create Your Future.

FAT BURNING TECHNOLOGY CAN BE A GAME CHANGER
WITH THE HOLIDAY SEASON COMPLETE, SOME OF US MAY BE CONSCIOUS OF THE EXTRA WEIGHT WE PUT ON. We can just eat less and skip a few meals to get our weight back on track, right? DRIVER’S NOTEBOOK

Love. It's What Makes A Subaru Safe ONE FATHER'S STORY THAT STILL BRINGS TEARS IN THE TELLING
IT SEEMED LIKE JUST ANOTHER BUSY OCTOBER AFTERNOON AT SUBARU OF LAS VEGAS, WHEN MY PHONE RANG. Seeing it was my daughter Emma who was living in Tiburon at the time I quickly answered with a “Hi Sweetie, what’s up?” Her response was both reassuring and disconcerting all at the same time. “I just want you to know Dad, I’m okay,” she said calmly. “I just got into an accident with a semi-truck and I rolled like three times, and the car landed upside down. They’re wheeling me into the hospital right now, and Leon, who was riding in his dog carrier, is at the fire station hanging out with the firefighters until I get out.” A flood of emotion hit me like a shot of adrenalin, and my eyes welled up without warning. All I wanted to do at that moment was to be there - with my daughter, and hold her close. This “dad” thing is not for the faint of heart, and it really knows how to wreck you sometimes! For the record, this is not the first time Emma has totaled a Subaru Outback, but I sure pray to God it is her last. Before anyone concludes that my daughter must be a bad driver, I might add that my firefighter - engineer Emma Hughes Moore
son, Cameron, has also totaled a Subaru and walked away without a scratch.

DRIVER’S NOTEBOOK (CONTINUED)
Emma Hughes Moore and Burton Hughes
In all three instances, my children were not at fault. Thankfully, in each case, the Subaru safety systems and legendary ring-shaped reinforced construction performed flawlessly and kept my family safe. I will admit Emma is a little more prone to something like this happening than most. Certainly not because I didn’t teach her good driving skills, but rather at the time of both of her accidents she was logging 40 to 50 thousand miles per year in her role as a Regional Salon Development Manager for Aveda - a division of Estée Lauder. It was on one of these business trips that she found herself sandwiched between a Nissan Frontier pickup and an 18-wheeler tractor trailer on the I-80 in Fairfield, California. For reasons unknown, the Nissan pickup in the fast lane veered to the right and contacted Emma’s left rear quarter sending her Subaru Outback into an uncontrolled spin and under the trailer of the semirig. In turn, the 18-wheeler jack-knifed and rolled - landing on the concrete center divider and splitting the cab of the freightliner in two. One Fairfield resident related to a local news reporter that he heard the screeching, saw the truck skidding, and Emma’s car up in the air as if someone was filming a Hollywood movie. Coming to a rest on the roof and with all airbags deployed, Emma and Leon waited for help to cut them out of their seatbelts, which had locked under the weight of their bodies. Moving the driver’s side-impact airbag out of the way, Emma attracted the attention of someone approaching her car apprehensively - not knowing what they were going to find. After a quick trip to the hospital for both the driver of the semi, who suffered a laceration to his left hand and Emma who had a minor concussion, Emma was on the road to recovery and to purchasing her third Subaru Outback. Today, since Emma and her wife Danielle own and operate Brush The Salon, an Aveda lifestyle salon in historic Healdsburg, California, they do a lot of driving. Dividing their time between California and Nevada, Emma still drives her Subaru Outback 1200 miles round trip every month - explaining the 250,000 miles on the odometer. 34
