PUBLISHER
The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the holiday traditions, from pumpkin spice everything to giant blow-up turkeys in the front yard. Along with the tradition of preparing way too much food for Thanksgiving, many of us will hear the phrase “everyone mention something they are thankful for”. In my experience, some will scoff at the suggestion and just utter something to get it over with and others will start to tear up as they are overcome with gratitude as they sit with all of their loved ones. I used to be one of the scoffers, anxiously waiting to get through this to get my second helping of food. It wasn’t that I was angry, or depressed, or that I didn’t feel as though I had things to be thankful for. It was more that I took the important things for granted, like my grandparents being with us.
Living in a fast-paced world, it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, especially with many of us striving for the next “best” thing, a bigger house, more money, a new this or that. We even strive to attain things like a family that is always smiling like the Joneses on social media. Clearly, they have the life. Living in and for the future can make it difficult to appreciate what we have now. The irony is that what we have now is the only thing that really matters. This moment is the only one we have any control over. This moment is the only one that is real. It has often been said, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone”. Time wasted on being upset with one another, not forgiving people, or feeling like we are missing out because we don’t have the new shiny thing, is no exception.
My brother, a father to seven, has everyone in his family mention what they are thankful for every night before bed. To me, this is a much better cadence than the once-per-year statement of gratitude I employ. I’m committing now, before all 70,000 of our readers, to start this with my family and hope that this letter will spark a new tradition of thankfulness in your daily lives as well.

Her passion for health and wellness is contagious, inspiring her clients to achieve their goals.

HOLIDAY DESTRESSING TIPS FROM LINDSEY
With the holiday season in full swing, stress can easily creep in. Taking just a few minutes each day to stretch and move can release a great deal of tension. Lindsey recommends the following three Pilates poses to help bring a sense of calm. CONTINUED >
Pigeon Pose: Begin in a deep runner’s lunge. Bending the front knee, ease onto the floor with the back leg still behind the body. Bending the front knee, rotating the foot inward to a 90-degree angle. Lift the chest high, sit upright, and if comfortable, gently lean forward over the bent leg to deepen the stretch. Hold for 30 seconds to a minute, leaning into the stretch gently. Repeat on the other side.
Standing Chest Opener Stretch:
Standing chest opener is a simple yet highly effective stretch designed to improve flexibility and posture by releasing tension in the chest and shoulders. By extending the arms behind the body and opening up the chest, this stretch helps counteract the effects of sitting or hunching, promoting better posture and upper body mobility. It is particularly beneficial for those who spend long hours seated or working at a desk, as it helps to expand the chest muscles, increase range of motion, and improve overall upper body alignment.
CONTINUED >
Side Bend:
Stand tall with feet shoulder width apart. Place both arms straight overhead, clasping the palms. Gently bend to one side until tension builds on the outside of the ribs and torso of the side body. Ease into the stretch and then, using the core muscles, return to center. Repeat that motion, slowly alternating sides as many times as needed.

THE FRISCO RESORT THAT CHECKS ALL YOUR STAYCATION BOXES
ARTICLE BY GABBY CULLEN
The Omni PGA Frisco Resort has it all
If you’re looking for a quick staycation there’s no better place than Frisco. Where else can you find football, soccer, shopping, history, and green space rolled into one? Just under an hour away from Fort Worth, whether you’re looking for shopping, outdoor adventures, sports, or fine dining, you’ll find it in Frisco.
And while there are several resorts and hotels to choose from, the Omni PGA Frisco Resort truly checks all the staycation boxes. Located in the rolling hills of the former Fields Ranch, and the heart of the Monument PGA district, it is minutes away from downtown Frisco, and has enough on-site entertainment to keep everyone busy and world-class golf courses for those who love the game.
The Omni PGA Frisco Resort has 500 rooms and 10 four-bedroom ranch houses complete with kitchens, fire pits, and sprawling views, so depending on your family’s lodging preferences, you’ll find a space that fits your needs.
The hotel has two heated pools perfect for families, and kids can enjoy the splash pad nearby when the sun is shining. Plus, there are plenty of things to do when everyone’s had enough of the water. Kids can enjoy cookie decorating, and everyone can make s’mores and listen to live music.
Being in the heart of the Monument PGA district means there’s plenty to do off the property, too. Regular events include Friday night movies, when the district restaurants are waiting for you to grab a bite and snag a space on the lawn, live music events that welcome families and their furry friends, football on the video wall, and various golf clinics beginning players.
Once you’ve had your fill of fun, don’t forget about the food! The Omni itself has several dining spots perfect for families, including The Apron, where you’ll be able to enjoy Texas and California fare including deviled eggs, pizzas, fried chicken sandwiches, and steak, and the Ryder Cup Grille, which serves up classic American culinary options like club sandwiches, lobster rolls, and burgers.
If you decide to dine in the Monument district, kids won’t be able to resist the sweet treats at Mararget’s Cones & Cups, where they can dig into chocolate-dipped ice cream cones, and parents will love the wide array of adult beverages and available at the Ice House. The best bet for the whole family is the Lounge by TopGolf. A place full of fun, test swing on a virtual golf course, or challenge your crew to a game of zombie dodgeball. The menu is filled with chef-driven meals like filet Bahn mi, a Cubano, a Texas smash burger, and more.
What else awaits you on your staycation at Omni PGA Frisco? The Ronny Golf Park is a four-minute drive away and the two-acre lighted golf park was designed with junior golfers in mind. Built for ages 3-4, it features two reduced-sized 18-hole putting greens, two chipping greens, a flex area, and a playground and obstacle course.
You can also visit the Soccer National Hall of Fame, the Frisco Heritage Museum, the Texas Sculpture Garden or Stonebriar Mall for worldclass shopping. And, if it’s the right season, an FC Dallas match is just the ticket.
The best part about a staycation at the Omni PGA Frisco resort? When it’s time to go, it’s just a short car ride home.

Celebrating 50 Years of William Campbell Gallery
A LEGACY OF ART AND COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY
Bill and Pam Campbell
"I hate golf," JW Wilson plainly says from his corner office overlooking the Trinity River. "I started visiting museums while my buddies were at the course. Her husband hates it too, but I hadn't met him yet."
JW points to Misty Locke, his business partner and close friend. Misty's long brown hair is tousled to one side as she lounges casually in a caramel-colored leather chair.
"I remember going to all three major Fort Worth museums in a row, and I was really paying attention that day, studying each piece," he says. "That began my nearly 25-year obsession with art."
The entire office proves it, with hallways showcasing works by John Holt Smith, Marshall Harris, JT Grant, and Richard Thompson. A painting by Billy Hassell hangs next to JW's chair, one of his favorites. The carefully curated collection is from the William Campbell Gallery, the business he shares with Misty, his wife Andrea, Misty's husband Tim, and their friends Jadz Pate and Clayton Snodgrass, since 2019 when they swooped in to continue the space's legacy as a staple of Fort Worth's art scene.
Originally founded by Bill and Pam Campbell, the unique cottage-like gallery off Byers Avenue built its reputation early on as a contemporary art exhibit. Today, with the new owners, the gallery has expanded, and if JW's office is any indication, the current inventory is expansive.
Since 1974, Bill used the gallery to champion emerging and established artists. The former TCU art student and veteran built a network of loyal patrons and creatives, calling their three-way relationship a partnership where everyone understood an expectation. The gallery showcased the highest quality works with exhibits speaking to seasoned collectors and art enthusiasts alike. Now nearly 80 years old, Bill and Pam have retired but remain close with JW and Misty, the new owners leaning on their mentorship to maintain the gallery's ethos a half-century later.
"We are continuing their legacy but evolving it, too," Misty says. "They sold it to us to continue the growth, and we are expanding the art and the artists we show."
A lot has changed in 50 years. Misty stresses growth because the gallery either evolves or dies. The art world is different now in Fort Worth and worldwide. JW observes that digital platforms make the world smaller but open Pandora's box, forcing businesses to adapt or fade into obscurity.
"The challenge for any gallery anywhere is online," he says. "Brickand-mortar galleries aren't dying but suffering because of the internet."
Many of their artists promote themselves through Instagram, but both owners agree the site is a sorry replacement for an in-person experience.
"Art is a deeply personal thing," he continues. "It's hard to know its value to you if you aren't in front of it assessing the materials, the texture, and the artist's style."
Misty says galleries also suffer from a commoditized art world flooded with reprints. She often assumes an educator role, explaining craftsmanship to prospective clients and buyers.
"True art doesn't have to be inaccessible or expensive," she says. "But people need to understand the craftsmanship, the time, and the narrative behind each work. The artist's story and the journey the piece takes to get to us assigns its value."
However, it is not always feasible to visit the gallery in person, and for that, digital comes in handy. Misty travels internationally to find artists and buyers to grow the gallery's footprint and keep their exhibits fresh.
"They can't reasonably just pop in from Korea," laughs JW. "But our reputation for quality helps in those situations."
More talent means more space, leading the partners to open another showroom at 217 Foch Street. The new space showcases a broader range of pieces from local talents like contemporary oil painter Julie Lazarus, Beverly Penn, known for her cast-bronze sculptures, and Victoria Gonzales, whose works include acrylic, thread, and pastels. The blend of new artists and buyers, locally and internationally, keeps the gallery fresh, with JW and Misty remaining mindful that artists' careers hinge on the success of galleries like theirs, a role they take seriously.
"Every day, an artist is forced to give up the dream." JW's eyes narrow at the thought. "Not because they lack talent. That's why we call it a partnership; they need us, and we need them, and I can't imagine a world without art. It makes you think; it makes you feel. What is this all for if that isn't in our lives?”
Word-of-mouth continues to be a powerful tool for the gallery, especially in a tight-knit community like Fort Worth, so Misty encourages off-the-street guests without expectation.
"We appreciate people coming to our events, even if they don't buy anything," says JW. "Some people come just to see art, eat food, and drink wine. And we love them for it."
At its core, the gallery celebrates art, community, and accessibility.
"We want to make a difference in the art community, both here in Fort Worth and beyond," Misty says. "Come visit us because the connection you feel with something might surprise you; we've seen it change people's lives."

YOUR WELLNESS STARTS HERE
H O USE OF TREASURES
Curating a home reflective of its owner’s style can feel overwhelming in the eclectic environs of Fort Worth, where the expectation is sometimes a picture-perfect and multi-functional one as remote work continues expanding. In an attempt to quickly fulfill their needs, many homeowners get caught in impersonal design solutions. Fort Worth designer and owner of The Modern Menagerie, Shelby Whitfield, believes in a more thoughtful approach that embraces life’s imperfections and encourages intentional design built around meaningful pieces.
A FORT WORTH DESIGNER SHARES THE LITTLE THINGS THAT CUSTOMIZE A SPACE
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY PROUD PHOTOGRAPHY
“I think it puts less stress on the homeowner to have beautiful things that are low maintenance,” says Shelby. “Without expensive or time-consuming upkeep.”
Her philosophy is to design a personalized working home for the often-hectic lives of her clients.
“The things we need from our homes functionally might not always be aesthetically pleasing,” she continues. “Sometimes you don’t have time to organize everything before someone comes over, and that’s okay, but I wouldn’t recommend transparent cabinet fronts or exposed shelving.”
Today’s homeowners have adopted relaxed resale ideologies, with Shelby’s clients often denying aging adages where general appeal trumps personal tastes. She is thankful for the change, crediting it for abolishing the minimalist cream-and-grey aesthetic that dominated homes for years. A unique design can take time to cultivate. Thankfully, Shelby knows how to speed things up.
“You can space, plan, and design upfront,” she says, stressing the usefulness of graph paper in this first step. “Giving you confidence in making purchases when you know they will fit your overall scheme.”
A long-term plan can dampen any urge to quickly fill empty shelves for the sake of completing a look, too. Shelby says many clients fall victim to “filler pieces,” a pitfall for even the poshest clients.
CONTINUED >
“There are a lot of Tom Ford coffee table books out there,” she jokes.
Her “collection” approach weaves innately intimate items into a space like subjective art pieces that initiate engaging conversations.
“We’re lucky now that we have so many online resources to find vintage or antique things related to niche interests or destinations,” she says. “It brings a story into the space.”
She also encourages homeowners to leave room for future treasures.
“Sometimes I leave a blank shelf and say, ‘This could be a cool spot for you to fill later.’”
Allowing space for future items is especially critical for younger families or first-time homeowners, who can feel pressure to buy everything at once, putting them at risk for the dreaded “filler,” stressing their budget, and increasing low-quality purchases. Shelby continues coaching patience.
“Finding something special is a matter of chance,” she says. “It might catch your eye on vacation. You can’t force life to happen in a compressed time frame.” The pre-made design plan empowers people during serendipitous shopping trips to select the right size or ensure the item fills a needed function.
“Intentional choices allow a space to grow with you,” says Shelby.
A designer often stays in touch with clients for years, building a lasting relationship which Shelby says is her favorite part of the job.
“I have clients who will text me when they’re out of town to ask if something will work in their home,” she laughs. “And I do it too. I’ll be somewhere and have to call them, ‘You need this!’”
As the clients move, age, and develop their unique style, Shelby is there, indelibly available for an update or refresh.
But does a busy designer take the same time for herself when she’s ready for a change, or is she the landscaper ignoring her yard at home?
“People always say, ‘Oh, your house must be so perfect,’ and my response is ‘It absolutely is not!’” she laughs. “We have a five-year-old and two dogs, so there are certain things I know I can’t be precious about.”
Shelby’s home is a 1950s ranch she remodels in phases, practicing what she preaches and only proceeding when inspired. The entryway showcases pink spot and star wallpaper from Schumacher, a nod to the home’s mid-century roots and the designer’s signature playful style.
“It was the color of the original kitchen cabinets before my husband and I owned the house,” she explains. “I love that connection.”
Her next move? Painting the living room a deep, eggplant purple. The choice is raising a few eyebrows, and she doesn’t hide her amusement at that. She enjoys proving the skeptics wrong and does it frequently.
“People will have to trust me on that one,” she laughs, describing how the rich color will warm the space. She plans to pair it with ripple fold drapery and unlacquered brass hardware that her husband says ages beautifully.
Homeowners can honor a home’s history without sacrificing personal style.
“It’s not about being super prescriptive,” says Shelby, “But when the design relates to the architecture it gives your work authenticity.”
For Shelby, design is more than creating a beautiful space, she’s telling someone’s story. In life and art, perfection has a sterilizing effect, and the best memories usually stem from some misadventure. A thoughtful plan is helpful, but embracing imperfections can have surprising results, and an ending some might never see coming.
ballerina FROM TO CHEF
The resilient Jenny Castor shares her unconventional tips for the perfect holiday plate
ARTICLE BY HANNAH BARRICKS PHOTOGRAPHY BY MACKA PHOTOGRAPHY
Fort Worth Chef Jenny Castor, owner of Luckybee Kitchen, never imagined she’d one day work with food. Her journey began far from the culinary world in the discipline of ballet, spending her early years training with the Fort Worth Ballet and earning an apprenticeship with them after three summers of training with the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York—the intense training, both physical and mental, shaped Jenny into a competitive yet sensitive
young woman. However, at just 17, a devastating concussion abruptly ended her ballet career.
The unexpected turn left Castor unsure of what the future held. Searching for a new direction, she enrolled at Texas Christian University (TCU), where she met her husband and pursued a degree in art with a minor in education. After graduation, she was drawn to creative outlets, teaching art for two years before transitioning to entrepreneurship.
“I used painting as an outlet to stay creative and earn money,” she recalls, balancing her growing family with her passion for art while raising three children.
Life continued to challenge her, though, and a significant health scare left her bedridden for months. During that time, she found comfort and inspiration in an unlikely source—cooking shows.
“My husband was doing so much. I offhandedly said one night, ‘If I get better, I will learn to cook,’” she remembers, still unsure if her health would ever return.
Several months into her illness, her family took her words to heart. One Christmas, they surprised her with a chef’s uniform and news of her enrollment at The Culinary School of Fort Worth. Initially unsure of her physical stamina, the culinary program’s competitive, high-pressure environment drew her in.
“I left that day and couldn’t wait to return,” she recalls. “It was one of the best days of my life.”
Castor’s natural creativity and drive helped her thrive, and she graduated with honors from the pastry and savory arts programs. With her newfound culinary skills and artistic background, she launched Luckybee Kitchen, a mobile fine-dining food truck concept that challenged traditional notions of what food trucks could offer. She focused on delivering high-end cuisine and presentation. Over time, Luckybee Kitchen expanded into a boutique catering service specializing in intimate, customized events, where Castor’s eye for detail and artistry could fully shine.
Nearly nine years after establishing her brand, Castor is ready for the next chapter of her culinary journey. In yet another surprise, her husband purchased a historic post office near the TCU campus, which will soon become the new home of Luckybee Kitchen. “I’m so excited to get started,” she shares. The new venue will offer elevated, intimate dining experiences, floral design services, cooking
classes, and the option to operate as a fully scaled restaurant, allowing Castor’s creativity to flourish in a new way.
In the kitchen, Castor’s guiding philosophy is that food should be as visually stimulating as it is flavorful.
“You eat with your eyes first,” she insists. Her background in art deeply informs her approach to plating, where color, texture, and composition are just as important as taste. As the holidays approach, she encourages home chefs to think about presentation when planning their meals.
Castor loves adding vibrant colors and personal touches to traditional dishes, often starting with seasonal ingredients but never hesitating to add an unexpected twist.
“I love bending the rules,” she admits. “Incorporating summer fruits like berries into fall dishes can sometimes be necessary to add brightness and depth of flavor.” Her colorful radicchio salad, featuring dark purple leaves, bright berries, and pistachios, is a prime example of her talent for blending taste, color, and texture into dishes that will leave guests stunned.
Castor’s artistic flair extends to her knife work, where she transforms everyday ingredients into playful visual elements. She takes pride in elevating even the most ordinary ingredients, from slicing rainbow carrots into
whimsical ribbons to crafting edible garnishes from fresh herbs. Her tomahawk pork chops, for example, are adorned with citron-colored figs and delicate edible flowers, transforming a hearty entrée into a piece of art.
“A plate should tell a story,” she says. “It’s not just about what’s on it; it’s about how it all comes together.”
Castor leans into her pastry roots for dessert, putting a playful twist on classic sweets. Her hand-painted sweet potato pies and brûléed pavlovas, topped with poached pears and sprinkled with edible gold shimmer, are showstoppers that blend flavor with aesthetic beauty.
“A sprinkle of edible gold adds unexpected whimsy and holiday,” she says with a smile.
Ultimately, Castor believes in keeping a sense of fun and playfulness in the kitchen.
“At the end of the day, it’s just food,” she laughs. “It should be fun.”
Jenny Castor’s journey from ballerina to chef is a testament to resilience, creativity, and passion. As she embarks on the next phase of her career, opening her new event space, she continues to blend art and food in ways that prove life’s detours can lead to the most unexpected and rewarding destinations.

TWO MONTHS LEFT!
January 1, 2025, will see BIG changes in the HVAC industry.
On that day, two new refrigerants, and therefore new HVAC equipment, will be introduced into the United States. Manufacturers have been busy retooling their assembly lines in order to comply with the new refrigerant requirements, and contractors are gearing up for these changes by modifying their trucks and purchasing the new tools necessary to work with the new refrigerant. All of these costs will, unfortunately, trickle down to the consumer.
If your HVAC equipment is ten or more years old, please take note! It's important that you consider these upcoming changes and do your research in order to make an educated decision. To learn more about the upcoming changes, visit the Department of Energy and/or the EPA websites.
Until January 1, 2025, all new R410A HVAC equipment will still receive a ten-year parts warranty with registration. (Fort Worth Heat & Air, Inc. will register your equipment for you upon installation completion.) After January 1, 2025, R410A HVAC equipment will become available only on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call.
