Hanging lights in a group at different heights, perhaps in different finishes above a breakfast bar, dining table, stairwell or other area can bring an added interest that just one light cannot, whatever your choice of pendant.

Think like a designer

TOP TIP Break up a room with an easy to do feature wall with geometric blocks of colour and an amazing feature light that will be both functional and decorative all in one

eometric shapes in interior design have long been a popular statement in a variety of different ways. From the traditional box lantern through to an elaborate designer light fitting there is always a way to add a geometric look to your lighting design. A single wall painted with different shape block colours can be a really striking look and can give you a quick and easy style update to an otherwise somewhat boring room. Adding a statement light fitting to such a room will really make the look. At The Lighting Company we have a wide a varied range of geometric light fittings, including everything from a single pendant to multi hanging pendants; we’ve even got geometric styles for flush and semi flush light fittings that work when your ceiling height doesn’t allow for a pendant or modern styled chandelier. Over the page we explore some of our favourites but if you don’t see something here that catches your eye don’t worry, our easy to use website is the perfect place to begin your latest lighting search. Whereas many people start with a colour or an idea for the room and then try to find a light fitting to match, why not turn this on it’s head and take inspiration from your favourite choice of lighting!?

The TOWER 6 light multi hanging pendant (above left) is available in a matching black and chrome finish or also a matt black with copper finished lamp holders for a more contrasting look.

Both of these fittings can be completed with beautiful LED filament bulbs that throw back to old style incandescent bulbs of yesteryear, with an energy saving benefit. For something completely different and a little more understated take a look at the COBY pendant below. This faceted white pendant has geometric cut outs in the shade to allow light to escape creating some interesting patterns. Team with a CIARA white ceramic table lamp for an incredible look. At under £160 for the pair what are you waiting for?! Why not update a spare room for those Summer visitors giving them a simple yet stylish look to admire on their stay over. For an exciting twist to these simply understated pieces, add remote control colour changing LED light bulbs and experiment with the looks you can create. Great fun!

The DAX (far left), a traditional linear pendant bar with a difference that is often used above a dining room table, breakfast bar or to divide an open plan living area. Where could you place one in your home? Finished in black with chrome lamp holders it can easily fit in with your choice of bold or muted colour schemes dependant on your own personal choice.

Priced at under £130 this is simply incredible value for a 6 light multi pendant. Consider adding it where you have a higher ceiling such in a stairwell or lounge with a high ceiling. For somewhere slightly different, why not fit as a hanging light over a bedside table for the ultimate contemporary chic in your bedroom?

Light fitting or Work of Art? The art of great lighting. We’re seeing a trend emerge of a fondness of multi-functional furniture, teaming two functions within the one item. It fits in with our desire to cut down on the clutter in our lives whilst maintaining the convenience of having what we need, just where we need it. When we cast our mind back to the previous generations’ home interiors, most had ornaments proudly on display that were collected over the years and this is something that we’ve generally stopped doing. In our evolvement into modernity, we no longer see display cabinets stuffed with little treasures, or sideboards full of knickknacks. So, what if we could re-introduce these precious mementos that trigger happy memories back into our home in this century? Well, we can! The solution is of course, lighting. Lighting may be seen by many as pure convenience and something to help us see when it’s dark, but in reality, lights bring so much more to your room.

The Light

Issue 11

2018

By choosing lighting that has an integral beauty and ornamental appeal, you are able to reintroduce the works of art into your home without taking up any additional space. Whether it’s a showstopping ceiling light, or a depiction of your favourite animal in a table lamp, they are providing a unique multi-functionality all of their own; an embellishment for your home and light at the flick of a switch. In this section we have gathered just a few of our particular favourites that bring an artistic piece to illuminate your room. We are serious about the art of lighting and encourage you to be too. One of our favourite examples of this is the Hopper Table Lamp from David Hunt Lighting that’s lovingly made in the Cotswolds.

Perfect for an avid reader, the hare sits atop bronze castings of British Literary Classics, such as the 1905 book named ‘Ayesha’ by H. Rider Haggard. The ears of the hare show a contentment, whilst retaining an alert ‘ear-out’ to ensure that danger is not approaching; much as you’d see them in the wild. It brings a quality all of its own, with textured detail that’s tactile to the touch and elegant to the eye. If a more modern, sculptural feel fits with your design more, the Alchemist table lamp (right) with its fluid lines akin to molten gold will appeal to the contemporary-luxe amongst us. It demonstrates a highbrow and abstract expressionism that’s perfect to add an artistic touch whilst also lighting our home.
