Maintenance & Operations Maintenance Team Continues Going Green As many of you know, part of the construction of the Auto/Welding Complex was the installation of temporary Level II charging stations. The Automotive Department received a donation of electric vehicles from Desert Fiat and these temporary stations were installed with the intent to support the electric vehicle classes being taught as part of the automotive curriculum. After extensive research, we are now able to offer a more permanent solution to the campus needs for electric vehicle charging through ChargePoint. ChargePoint is the world's largest network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the US. It offers over 48,000 charging points, 18,000 in California alone. The maintenance staff has installed two dual stations in front of the auto/welding area and one dual station under the solar covered parking lot located in lot #11 that are now fully operational. Also a single dual station is planned for installation at the Regional Public Safety Training Center. A few more will be incorporated into the construction of the new One Stop facility project. As many of you with EV’s know, varying amounts to charge your EV depends on the location. This amount is dictated by the station owner (VVC) who sets the rates and times for charging. The typical cost to charge is generally 10% of the cost of a gallon of gas, therefore, if gas is $3.50 per gallon it would equate to .35 cents per Kwh. Of this amount, VVC will receive 90% to offset the cost of the electricity and 10% will go to ChargePoint for network and administration fees. The cost for using the ChargePoint stations at VVC has been set at .35 cents for the first 4 hours and $5.00 for every hour after that. This structure is set to encourage EV owners to get the quick charge they need and then move to another spot, allowing others to also take advantage of the charging station. The stations are not intended to be a day-long parking stall for EV owners. It should also be noted that citations will be issued if vehicles are parked in the stall and not charging. I would like to ask that everyone use the charging stations in the spirit in which they are intended. Please follow the rules and be courteous to others in need of the charging station. You can go to www.chargepoint.com to sign up and download the app. Thank you, Steve

DAVID MONDOZA
The Maintenance and Operations Department is excited to announce the addition of three new custodians to our team; Frances Estrella, David Mondoza, and Lori Fitch Freeman. Lori Fitch Freeman comes to us with years of custodial experience as well. Lori has worked with us for one year plus as a sub custodian, and worked locally at the SVL Country Club. She has done an excellent job for us and we are eager to be able to keep her on full time. Frances Estrella comes to us with local Community College experience including over a year of working as a sub custodian at VVC. Frances is experienced in the custodial field and she is happy to be a part of the VVC team. David Mondoza comes to us with a variety of maintenance and operations experience. David worked at Los Angeles Times for many years in a few of different positions in maintenance and operations. He's thrilled about the opportunity to be at VVC. We are excited to add great staff to assist with our daily operations. We look forward to continuing to recruit additional employees with the goal of being fully staffed! Joseph Garcia

RESTRICTED AND CATEGORICAL PROGRAMS
1. It is imperative that Restricted/Categorical program staff carefully plan their purchases for the remainder of the year. 2. The following employees that complete timesheets who are working June 24, 2018 to June 30, 2018 need to submit their timesheets for that time-frame to the Dean July 2 for signature, and then to Payroll NO LATER than noon on July 3, 2018. A supplemental payroll will be generated July 15. This ensures the payroll charges post to the 17/18 fiscal year. Payroll for late timesheets will be charged to the new fiscal year. • • •
Short-term/temporary/hourly/student workers Certificated - full-time, and part-time with teaching assignments Counselors
3. Programs on a different fiscal cycle will be held to this deadline, and are required to close out the college’s fiscal year on June 30, 2018. Carryover balances will be established in the new fiscal year, and spending can continue until the program’s fiscal year ends. We appreciate your cooperation in closing this fiscal year; additional budget planning is necessary for the 18/19 fiscal year. If you have any questions, please call Shawntee Milton in Fiscal Services at extension 2450.
