This Week’s Feature Story
BVI DanceFest – A Dance Delight Don’t miss this musical and visual treat as young dancers practice their steps for “BVI Children’s Dancefest 2011.” The talented youngsters will undoubtedly bring tears to your eyes and rock the house at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall as the Dancefest gets underway this Saturday at 6:30pm sharp. Speaking about this year’s performance, Sandy Lyons of BVI Dance School said, “The 2011 line-up just might outdo last year’s performance, which everyone agreed would be ‘hard to beat’. Every year the performance gets better and the audience just gets bigger and bigger!” She added, “Last year, a sold-out house enjoyed a variety of spectacular dances performed by children from the smallest tots of just four years to accomplished students in their teens. A sprinkling of performances by their talented teachers and other dance groups contrasted well with the children’s dancing and made for a memorable evening.”
Known for its lavish, sparkling costumes, this year’s show is no exception. No expense has been spared to buy the sequins, ribbons, feathers and fancy fabric that will adorn the 300 plus cast members. And as the revue includes an eclectic mix of ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop – it is guaranteed to be a dazzling event . This, the 10th performance of the BVI Children’s Dancefest, is supported by the BVI Dancefest Committee which is dedicated to the advancement of the art of dancing. This dynamic group also raises funds for scholarships and provides financial aid to children so that they can attend dance lessons. Most recently, they have been focusing on the equipping of a proposed new dance center. So get your tickets today for a truly memorable evening. Tickets are on sale at Bolos, Radio Doctor and Sensus Gym. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students (13-18) and children 12 years and younger go free! Tickets are also available at the door. — Jan Critchley

Ask Koren Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!
Wife Is Bad With Money a regular job no matter how low her funds go, they will be replaced by month-end? Does she believe in “live for today and not for tomorrow”? Does she believe that since she has a husband now, all her money problems are solved? It is helpful to know where her mind is at and that will lead you to a better understanding of where her cash is going. Make a list of your combined income and expenses, making sure that you list the expenses in order of priority so that if something has to be chopped, you can start at the bottom. You both should have a weekly or monthly allowance for your personal use and make an effort to live within or below your means. Go grocery shopping together and help her to make more economical choices to get the best quality for your dollar. Allow her some input as I’m sure she might have some issues with you as well. Remember the finances in a marriage are a shared responsibility as you are a team now.
Dear Koren, I have been married for a little under a year and I am discovering that my wife does not know how to handle money. Before we married, she lived with her parents and seemed to be doing okay. Now she is always running out of cash and when she does the grocery shopping, what she brings home for three hundred dollars, I could probably get twice as much. How do I handle this without it turning into an argument? I can’t afford to have her waste money, when we are saving to get our own home. –Husband Dear Husband First of all, come down off your high horse and give the woman a break. Waste money? When was the last time you checked the prices of items in the local supermarket? Have a nice sit-down talk with her and tell her that in order to save for your home, you both need to work on better budgeting and money usage. That, by the way, is the best way to have the conversation without having an argument – don’t accuse, just discuss. Ask her how she thinks things are financially – her response could tell you a great deal about her attitude towards money; did she grow up with a lot of it and never had to be careful? Does she figure since she has

video views adventure. As a map reveals the pathway, a mad scramble to reach the fountain ensues. One that even has the Spanish and English fleets in hot pursuit. However, as everyone makes their way to the fountain, and the true motives of each character is revealed, it makes for quite an unforeseen and climatic conclusion. Uncharacteristically the film begins outside the Caribbean and in the heart of England, where Jack makes an outlandish attempt to save his first mate Gibbs from hanging. Whilst in London, Jack learns that there is an imposter exploiting the legacy of his name to gather men for a crew. As he looks to confront this fraudster, he is taken on a path that lands him on the ungodly ship of the famed pirate, Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Under his captivity, Sparrow is forced to show the way to the fountain. Their voyage sends them all to the most treacherous of places and puts them in rather sticky situations on their quest for immortality. It is truly a thrilling adventure, one packed with the narrow escapes, theatrical duels and the clever one-liners, that have made this series great. Though by the fourth film some may find this formula too predictable, at face value the film fulfils its purpose to entertain. It is essentially two hours of jam-packed fun, so do enjoy.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Johnny Depp is back to kick-off the summer in the latest instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It’s an adventurous and action packed sequel, driven, as always, by the iconic wit and satire of the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). Though without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley to enthral our hopeless romantics, Sparrow and Angelica (Penelope Cruz) provide sparks on a more seductive and lustful level. She brings out a more sentimental and altruistic side of Depp’s infamously self-motivated character. Their mysterious past fuels scepticism and speculation, but despite this, they are left with no choice but to trust each other in order to reach the Fountain of Youth. Yes, eternal life not treasure is at the crux of this

Mysteries of Missing and Misplaced Keys What do you do when upon returning to your car – luggage in hand – from a trip overseas, you discover that your keys are missing? Or, while loading the shopping into the boot of your rental in St. Thomas one hour before your ferry departs you accidentally lock the keys, along with other personal belongings in the car? These were two separate, and at the time, frustrating dilemmas that my wife and I faced in the not too distant past. Just over a month ago we travelled to Florida via St. Thomas for a weekend getaway and had the most wonderful time. The journey back was just as enjoyable and relaxing until we got to my car and couldn’t find my bunch of keys. Clothes, toiletries and other items were tossed everywhere as a frantic search ensued to try and locate the missing keys. Nothing! A trip back inside the West End ferry terminal proved just as futile since it was after 6pm and the departure section was already closed. A friend of ours who lives in West End offered to take us home in the hope of my returning with spare key to get the vehicle. The conversation on the journey to Road Town was dominated by searching questions as we tried to retrace every step of our trip, hoping to remember where I had misplaced the keys. Things took a turn for the worse when we arrived home and the spare key was not in its usual place of safekeeping. Another frantic search ensued; only this time there was more stuff to toss around – almost the entire house, it seemed! After about an hour, which included an unsuccessful call to the airport in St. Thomas, we finally gave up, pieced the house back together and retired to bed, all the while trying to figure out how we’ll get to work and other places the next day. Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
Next morning I awoke slightly refreshed and decided to try the West End ferry dock again, hoping that I had left them there on our outward journey. So I made the call. Lo and behold, they had a bunch of lost keys in their possession. A brief description was all it took to confirm that it was indeed my bunch of keys, which I was able to retrieve a bit later in the day along with my vehicle. I’ve still not been able to locate the spare key to date but I’m hopeful that one day it will turn up in one of the least expected corners of the house. Having since had another spare key cut and being extra careful with my key handling, another such dilemma was the last thing on my mind as Alexis and I embarked on a trip to St. Thomas last weekend. USA Network Welcomes the New Characters Of ‘Suits’ “Characters Welcome” is the slogan for USA Network, and it has done an outstanding job of living up to that with its slate of critically acclaimed and popular series. So many viewers have welcomed characters such as Michael Westen, Hank Lawson, Neal Caffrey and Annie Walker into their homes that USA is the No. 1 network in all of basic cable. The network welcomes a few new characters to its mix with Suits, premiering Thursday, June 23. Suits comes from Doug Liman (the Bourne trilogy) and David Bartis (Heist), two executive producers of another USA series, Covert Affairs. As that show offers a unique twist on the CIA drama, so does Suits present a tweaking of the legal drama genre. In fact, with its quirky characters and combination of humor and drama, it’s somewhat hard to consider Suits a straight-out legal show. “I almost don’t even think of it as a legal series anymore,” says Patrick J. Adams, who plays new law firm recruit Mike Ross. “We’re doing a really good job of keeping it to the characters, as USA is so known for. It’s all there to service these people and characters.” The character of Mike is a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout with both book smarts and street smarts. He inadvertently finds himself hired as an associate at a top law firm by the unconventional Harvey Specter. “I think (Mike) is a guy who’s just beginning to
understand he’s the only person standing in his way,” Adams says. “By that I mean that he’s sort of in that quintessential state that everybody finds in their life when they have to decide to have faith in themselves and really follow through on the things that they said they always dreamed of doing. ... And because he meets this incredible, strange man – Harvey – he’s put in a position where he really has to make that choice for himself.” Gabriel Macht (The Spirit) plays Harvey, whose swagger offsets Mike’s earnestness. “He’s got a lot of flash,” Macht says of Harvey. “He thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room, and from the scripts, it’s almost like he is.”
