Boyfriend Has Female Friends Dear Koren, My boyfriend insists that it is his right to have female friends and he takes calls from them anytime and says that once he is not having sex with them, I should not worry about it. I feel very uncomfortable with his behaviour and we have many fights about it. I don’t want to lose him. Should I just accept his behaviour or is he wrong? – Girlfriend
eventually come out and then you will have to make a decision. Your insecurity might come from wondering how he relates to these women when you are not around. It could also stem from his lack of reassurance or him failing to let you know that you are the most important woman to him. If you trust him, then you might accept his explanation that the friendships are purely platonic as long as there is no evidence to the contrary. He must also realize that there is the issue of emotional infidelity and do his best to avoid it. A man and his female friend might not be having sex but he might be emotionally closer to the friend more than to his actual partner and that is wrong and dangerous. His female friend should not be his confidant and he should not be discussing your relationship with her. For now, focus on building the relationship ensuring that you spend quality time together. Don’t spend your time focusing on others. I doubt you would want him to hide his friendships, so it is good that he is being open with you.
Dear Girlfriend, I hear this complaint so much, I am surprised that no one ever asked about it before. Every relationship must have mutual respect – he should respect you enough to set boundaries with his female friends and you should respect his right to have friends. However, there must be a middle ground. They should not be allowed to call him anytime they feel like if you live together. They should be made to understand that they hold the rank of friends and that your rank of girlfriend supersedes theirs. He should take your concerns seriously and make an effort to please you; however, don’t nag him constantly about his friends, go through his phone or allow yourself to be suspicious to the point where you drive yourself and him crazy. If he is doing something wrong, the truth will

video views – we know that they have fallen in love. This is new territory for the couple, especially Jamie who has never said, “I Love You” to anyone in his life – not even his family. Maggie spends her time in her artfully disheveled loft making collages and organizing trips to Canada for other Parkinson’s sufferers to obtain cheaper prescription drugs. Once the relationship is finally established, Jamie embarks on a one-man countrywide campaign to find specialists who can help her condition. This new focus brings about a dramatic change in the dynamic of their relationship to the point where the now depressed Maggie confronts Jamie, and his conviction to cure her. So, they split up and are both miserable, and although I wouldn’t want to give anything away, you can probably guess the ending. Having said that, it is an engaging film that deals with issues such as no strings sex, a young beautiful person dealing with an incurable disease, love and the greed of drug companies. Anne Hathaway is incredible in her role and if you’re already a fan, then you will adore her in this dark romance.
By Jan Critchley
Love and Other Drugs Almost a modern day version of Love Story, this film is essentially a steamy romance drama. Lead characters Jake Gyllenhaal (Jamie) and Anne Hathaway (Maggie) both actively pursue sexual conquests but neither wants a relationship. Artistic Maggie has early on-set Parkinson’s disease and her sense of impending doom has made her determined to not get emotionally involved with any man she sleeps with. Jamie is a charming and ambitious cad who works as a rep for a drug company promoting its new drug. The job suits this modern day Lothario just fine, with it’s zealous training programs involving go-go dancers, the Macarena and pillow talk with the rampant Sales Leader. The two meet when Maggie turns up at the office of a doctor, one whom Jamie has been trying to persuade to prescribe his company’s drug. By charming the receptionist, Jamie gets Maggie’s phone number and they become friends with benefits. However, by the time they are eating Chinese takeout in a rumpled bed

On Top of the World the safety of the observation platforms and stepping off onto the snow-clad rocks. We were on the Aiguille du Midi at a height of 12,605 feet and looking straight across at Mont Blanc, which soared another 3,000 feet above us. Just to get a closer look we took another elevator, up through the rock face to the Piton Central. There was a biting wind, and we wrapped our jackets around us as we took in a breathtaking view over the entire Alpine chain. We looked down at the terrace we had left at the tiny figures of our former travel companions. It was then I noticed the figures out on the snow. Silently I wished them luck. Personally, spectacular though this was, I would be glad to return to sea level.
There must be something compelling for me about living at sea level. Sure you can go up (though in Tortola, not to any great height) and you can go down, our waters providing crystal clear views of a myriad of sea life. But mostly I prefer to sit on the shoreline watching waves that originated miles away, gently splashing onto the sands. Occasionally the urge to do something completely different overtakes me, as it did recently during a visit with friends to their chalet in the French Alps, albeit at the height of the summer season. It wasn’t particularly warm for a July day and the only evidence of snow was on the distant peak of Mont Blanc and the surrounding Swiss and Italian mountaintops. In fact it was raining as Betty and I set out with friends Philippe and Sophie for the nearby town of Chamonix. “It’s great weather up there,” Philippe said pointing upwards into the low mass of clouds, after consulting with someone in the office of the cable car company. Soon we found ourselves herded into a cable car with a capacity of 70 or more, and began a fascinating and slightly terrifying journey. Looking up we saw the cables that carried us, disappearing into a cloud mass. For a while we were in a complete fog with a weird sense of rising through space. Suddenly we emerged into a completely different world. The sun was shining and sparkling all around us were snow-clad mountains. I noticed that some of my fellow passengers carried backpacks and ropes and seemed bent on leaving Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

American Ninja Warrior’ Storms Japan’s Mount Midoriyama To paraphrase the Talking Heads, this ain’t no “Dancing”; this ain’t no “Wipeout”; this ain’t no foolin’ around .... The odd celebrity may turn an ankle on Dancing With the Stars, and the odd contestant (OK, almost all the contestants) may face-plant into a padded obstacle and go tumbling into the water on Wipeout. But for ferocious physical challenges and amplitude, it’s hard to beat G4’s obstacle-course competition show American Ninja Warrior. The third season of the show premiered on G4 on July 31 and ends in Japan on Monday, Aug. 22, with a two-hour prime-time special on NBC. “We start the season with 300 hopefuls,” says host Matt Iseman of Sports Soup, “out of thousands of submissions we do a qualifying round in Venice where we narrow it down to our top 30.”
Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
“So it starts out with six obstacles; we added three for a total of nine obstacles. They’re just absurdly hard. So we went from 30 to our top 15. “We take them to a boot camp and narrowed it down from 15 to 10, just more absurdly hard training.” Those 10, with Iseman, his co-host, MMA fighter Jimmy Smith, and sideline reporter Alison Haislip, headed to Japan to join competitors from around the world on the “mother course.” Iseman explains that 100 competitors run the course every year, but over 26 seasons of the Japanese show, from more than 2,600 competitors, only three have completed all four stages and made it to the top of Mount Midoriyama to finish the course — and none of those three was an American. Last year, half of the Americans completed stage one, and four made it to stage three. Alas, none made it to stage four, but it was an impressive performance. “Our guys were animals,” Iseman says. “They – Kate O’Hare were trained; they were in shape.”

‘Tanked’: Fishy Business in Las Vegas Las Vegas may not have a river running through it or an ocean nearby, but that doesn’t mean people there don’t like watching fish. And when those fish need a home, they call Acrylic Tank Manufacturing. Located in a business park not far from the Las Vegas Strip, the family-owned company designs, fabricates, installs, stocks and maintains custom acrylic aquariums. On Friday, Aug. 19, Animal Planet premieres “Tanked,” a six-episode reality series that follows the adventures of New York-born brothers-in-law, business partners and rivals Brett Raymer and Wayde King, along with the other family members who work for the company, as they create aquariums large and really large. In the first episode, ATM is given the job of creating a gangster-themed tank for the Las Vegas Mob Experience attraction at the Tropicana Hotel (for which Raymer wound up sacrificing a pair of shoes so they could be encased in concrete). While this tank features a lot of mob-themed decorations — such as Tommy guns, bundles of dynamite that emit bubbles, and TV screens inside showing mob movies — it’s tiny compared to the one ATM did for the Silverton Hotel and Casino. The giant tank, which is right inside the main entrance, is also featured on the front page of the resort’s website. The partners also took inspiration from another TV family business, the custom motorcycle builders of Discovery Channel’s “American Chopper.” “We came up with this crazy idea called themed aquariums,”
says Raymer, “and that’s what our show’s about.” “Once we started seeing what Orange County Choppers did with motorcycles, everything seemed to be based upon theming, so we turned around and said, ‘Let’s do a themed aquarium.” “He’s more my brother than anybody,” Raymer says of King. “In the beginning, it was rough, because we’re both from New York. We didn’t really know each other. As time went by, we each accepted each other’s roles as business partners. “It’s like Felix and Oscar from The Odd Couple. He’s Felix; I’m Oscar. He’s the neat, clean one; I’m the messy one. He’s the one that doesn’t know about sports and I’m a sports fanatic.” – Kate O’Hare

Softball Season Ends Friday…But Which One? Predictions are in. Depending on whom you speak to, the 2011 BVI Softball Association Irvine “Fletcher” Scatliffe Men’s League Championships Series will end on Friday. But, is it Friday August 12 or Friday August 19? Hurricanes’ pitcher Neville “Sheep” Smith says Aug 12. Reds’ manager Julian Adams says Aug 19. So, how have we arrived at this point and the prediction? On Sunday night, a pitching gem between Smith and the Reds’ Lionel “Hodgie” Hodge ensued until the Reds’ defense fell apart in the seventh inning when the flood gates opened, turning a 2-1 Hurricanes advantage from the first inning, into a 8-1 triumph that gave them a 3-1 lead in the best of seven series. The ‘Canes topped the Reds 1-0 last Friday to take a 2-1 edge in the series. Following Sunday’s game, Smith praised Hodge’s pitching, after he held the ‘Canes batters scoreless for five innings. “He pitched brilliantly and it could have gone either way,” said Smith who returned from a short-lived retirement to lead the ‘Canes’ charge towards another title. “I take my hat off to him. He held the team down.” Adams said Hodge, has been his team’s masterpiece in the playoffs and now in their first championships appearance. “He has shined in all the games he played, especially tonight,” Adams noted. “He was unstoppable until the seventh inning when we just fell apart. I don’t have an answer for that but I’ll just go back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong, but he’s a very, very good pitcher.” Jason “Mad” Fonseca relieved Hodge after he gave up a run in the seventh—helped by errors— along the way and left runners on base.
Reds' pitcher Lionel "Hodgie" Hodge
Smith, who has been carrying the ‘Canes’ load, was glad his team had pulled out the victory and moved a step closer to their fourth title since 2006, the last coming in 2009. Smith said he intends to end the series on Friday night. “I’ve run out of steam, so we’ll end it on Friday—I’m really not able to go any further,” he admitted. “It’s a well played series, but, we’ll end it on Friday, so everybody must come out, watch the game and have fun.” Adams too agreed the series will end on Friday— but not this one. “It’s going seven games,” he has assured. “Friday night is game five. We just have to bat—there’s nothing else. We’ve seen everything Sheep’s got,” Adams explained. “I take my hat off to him. He’s the best pitcher in the league and I don’t expect it to be an easy series. But, the series will end on a Friday—there’s another game on Sunday then it ends the following Friday—that’s a definite.” Friday’s game at the Old Recreation Grounds is scheduled to go off at 7 p.m. Game six if necessary, will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday. 17
