Brady vs Manning Part II in Super Bowl XLVI Yes, it’s that time again. No, not Tebow time – Super Bowl XLVI time. Next Sunday, February 5th in Indianapolis! The buildup has already started and there’s a buzz of excitement in the air as football (American that is) fans across the US and here in the BVI eagerly anticipate what promises to be one of the best match-ups in Super Bowl history. What makes this game even more mouth-watering is the fact that it’s a rematch of Super Bowl XLII in 2008 when the overwhelming favorites, New England Patriots, lost to New York Giants in an absolute thriller. Led by their dynamic quarterback Tom Brady, arguably the best in the game today and probably of all time, the Patriots will be hungry to avenge that loss from four years ago. The “Brady Bunch” have been phenomenal in attack ever since Brady has been at the helm but this season their defense has been one of the weakest in the league. However, as well as they’ve played all season, they’ll have to lift their game to get past the red-hot Giants, who have been unstoppable in the last part of the regular season and play-offs. Led by their hugely underrated quarterback Eli Manning, they’ve recovered from a shaky start to easily dispose of favorites and

Tom Brady & Eli Manning

defending champions, Green Bay Packers, who had only lost one game all season, in the divisional playoff game en route to the Super Bowl. An added motivator for Manning will be the fact that the game will be played on the home field of elder brother and more illustrious quarterback, Payton, who missed the entire season with a neck injury. Eli has lived in the shadow of his brother for most of his career but has demonstrated this season that he’s just as good, and is ready to join the elites of the game, if he hasn’t already. A win next Sunday will certainly erase any doubts. Whatever the outcome, it promises to be a riveting game from kick-off to the last play, and one that you can’t afford to miss!

Ask Koren Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!

Husband wants me to change doctors If you have a very serious reason like some past history of trauma with an adult female and you really cannot deal with a female physician, you need to let him know. Open communication must be an essential part of your marriage. Ask your husband why he feels so strongly about it and listen carefully to him. If he has control issues, then that needs to be confronted and he needs to understand that is certainly not helpful for the marriage. As husband and wife, you are not enemies, but friends, partners and soul mates. There should not be anything that you should not be able to discuss and you both should focus on being unselfish and making the other person happy. This is a matter that can be resolved with discussion, understanding and compromise. There will be other issues to face later on. It is early yet, so try to use this situation as practice on how to resolve conflicts – because trust me – more will come and some even bigger. Remember, you see your gynecologist occasionally but you will be living with your husband for the rest of your life.

Dear Koren, I am upset and need some advice. I got married last year and my husband and I discussed a lot of things before marriage and I thought we were okay. Then last week, my husband heard me making an appointment with my gynecologist and suggested that I switch to a female as he thinks I should not have another man looking at me. I am comfortable with my gynecologist and don’t want to change, but he is stressing me about it. What should I do? – Stubborn Dear Stubborn Wife, It is your body and because you are comfortable with the physician that you have been seeing for a while, it might be difficult to have someone else deal with you in such an intimate way. On the other hand, if the gynecologist just happens to be male and was not chosen because of the gender, then you could consider compromising. Remember, in a marriage you have to choose your battles and not everything has to be fought over; so if it is really important to him, then why not change? I’m sure down the road you would want him to consider your feelings and preferences in something that is important to you and you would appreciate the same consideration.

The Hole in the Water It has often been said that a boat is a “hole in the water, into which you pour money.” So when I said to my wife Betty that I wanted to buy a boat, since we now lived in a waterfront apartment, she said: “absolutely no way.” I thought that was a bit final sounding, so I decided to chip away at her defenses by reminding her of how much fun we had on friends’ boats when they invited us out. But having friends with boats was, in her mind, preferable to having one ourselves. “But this way,” I argued, “we’d be able to go out whenever the fancy took us.” She suggested that whenever I fancied going out I could rent a boat, which would be much cheaper than buying one. She had a point, but I kept looking at that space in front of our condo, just waiting for our boat. It was after a depressing visit to a good friend in the US who suddenly developed cancer that Betty finally said: “Let’s get the boat.” There’s another old saying that says: “be careful what you wish for because you might get it.” Now I had to figure out where to find the boat I wanted and how to pay for it. Being retired gives you lots of time to play, with one important thing missing – a paycheck. I had been looking at boats on the Internet since the fancy first took me. There were lots of boats available. Many were the playthings of people who could no longer afford the upkeep. I probably should have thought about that a bit, but I ignored it. I kept coming back to a picture

Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

of a nice looking boat sitting on a trailer, just waiting to come to me. I made the down-payment. There was no turning back. The previous owner traded it in for a new boat – and took all the gear for the new boat. “Do I need an anchor, dock lines, fenders? I asked the broker. “Well, he took just about everything,” said the broker. I went on line to a marine supplier and bought the bare essentials and sent them to the yard. “I’ll need her bottom painted,” I said realizing the previous owner took her out of the water after every use. Soon she was ready for the trip from North Carolina to Florida and then on the ship to Tortola. I made the final payment. Then I paid the shipping. Once here, I paid the duty, local towing fees, the registration fee; had a mooring buoy installed and bought fuel. Now, hopefully, the fun can begin!

‘Justified’ mixes it up with old friends and new foes While Raylan continues to get himself into one scrape after another with the boss, Olyphant is continuing to be one of the bosses. In Season 2, he added a producer’s hat to the white Stetson Raylan wears on the show, and in Season 3, both of them seem well broken in and comfortable on his head. “First of all,” he says, leaning on a car outside after using a hot towel to scrub off his makeup at the end of his workday, “it’s one of the great mysteries in life, what a producer does. No one knows. But, to me, it’s just been a green light to completely overstep my job responsibilities and boundaries and get into everyone’s business. And I, for one, enjoy it thoroughly.”

It’s just another day on the sets of FX’s Justified, currently filming its third season — airing Tuesdays — in studios perched on top of a hill in Santa Clarita, just north of Los Angeles. In the eighth episode being filmed, Harlan, Ky., U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) is suspected of some misdoing; his ex-wife (but not necessarily entirely ex-love) Winona Hawkins Natalie Zea is tangled up in the situation; and his long-suffering boss, Art Mullen (Nick Searcy), is not sure he wants to know about it. (In truth, with some level of variation, that could be almost any episode of Justified thus far.) “Well,” says Searcy, lounging in a director’s chair outside the doors to the U.S. marshals’ office, where all the extras have gathered, “Art has a job to do and an office to run. He has more than one employee. I try to know what I’m supposed to know in order to conduct marshals business and not get into too much beyond that, because that would get into an area where I’m getting into somebody’s personal life.” And besides, Art has kind of a soft spot for Raylan. “He’s a pain in the butt,” says Searcy. “But also, I see a lot of myself in him. I was a lot like him when I was younger. Some of the things he does, I understand maybe more than somebody else would. There’s a certain point you realize that it’s not really the way to live a long and happy life. That’s my biggest concern for Raylan.” 17

Gearing up for London Olympic Games Friday, January 27, marks exactly six months before the opening ceremonies of the London Olympic Games. For the first time since the inaugural appearance in Los Angeles in 1984, women will be the standard barers at the Olympic Games. Never before in the territory’s history has there been more than one automatic qualifier. In London there could be a minimum of three. Already, sprinter Tahesia Harrigan-Scott has made the “A” standard in the 100m, with her 11.14 seconds time, which is 1/100s off her personal best. Historically, she was the territory’s first Olympic Games semifinalist, achieving the feat in Beijing in 2008. Among the hopefuls is Chantel Malone, the territory’s most successful female Jr. athlete and also the most versatile—holding National Records in the 400m, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump and a share of both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She has turned her energies to the 400m in which she was a 2010 IAAF World Jr. Championship finalist, and her best time is 0.05 seconds off the qualifying mark. Ashley Kelly, the Colonial 2011 Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete, is a senior at the University of Illinois and has two marks to her credit within .41 and .49 seconds of qualifying. She joined Malone last year in becoming the territory’s first two athletes to earn All American Honors hours apart in the same NCAA Championships, and has run 23.49 seconds over 200m and 52.71 seconds in the 400m. She is also the reigning Big 10 Conference Indoor 400m champion and came up just .002 seconds short in the Outdoors version. Karene King, another hopeful, is a senior at Portland State University and has a best of 23.86 seconds. Last

indoor season, she broke Harrigan-Scott’s 5-year old 200m Indoor National Record with a time of 24.02 seconds. The reigning Big Sky Conference indoor champ came within .06 seconds of the qualifying mark over the weekend. Apart from being on the verge of qualifying individually, the four athletes are eyeing one of the 16 available spots in the 4x100m relay—a remarkable pursuit for a country with less than 30,000 inhabitants. During the 2010 BVI Invitational, the quartet of Kelly, Harrigan, Malone and King, shocked 2009 IAAF World Championships qualifiers and Central American and Caribbean Championships gold medalists St. Kitts, who had not lost a race to an Eastern Caribbean team in 13 outings. Handing the stick for the first time, Team BVI ran a scintillating 44.34 seconds to beat St. Kitts’s 44.73. The Olympic Games 4x100m relay standard is 44.00 seconds and the top 16th time on the 2011 IAAF list is 43.69 by Belgium. They will begin their qualifying quest on April 13-15 during the Miami Invitational and continue on April 28 at the prestigious Penn Relays, where they are expected to line up in the USA vs Rest of The World Challenge. 19
