This Week’s Feature Story
Easter Fun Virgin Gorda Style This Easter enjoy something different and take a trip to the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival that is guaranteed to put some jump in your step. This year, the festival village is named Leon “Kinney” Creque Festiville, and the event which will be held from April 7th to 9th, gives a great taste of what island cultural events are all about. It is an annual holiday tradition in Virgin Gorda that involves three days of great fun, food and live music every night. Sasha Flax, Public Relations for the Festival Committee said, “One of the main changes we have made this year is to focus on our local talent for live music, this way we can provide quality entertainment and give the bands the exposure that they need.” The festival kicks off on Saturday with a cultural food fair at the marina from 10am with live music by Leon & The Hot Shots and South Mix Band. At 8pm, don’t miss the opening ceremony of Leon Creque Festiville with music by Session Reloaded and Red Hot Flames from Antigua. On Sunday from 10am there will be the Beach Jam and “Wet Fete” at the ferry dock and later, don’t miss the ever popular Calypso Competition at the
Festival Village with island favorites Showtime Band who will bring the evening to a rousing close. When you get home be sure to set your alarm clock, as it is an early start on Monday morning for the Rise and Shine Tramp, or Jouvert as it is also known, which starts at 5am. Troupes and revelers will dance through the streets to the beat of Session Reloaded and other jam bands. The Easter Monday Parade, through Spanish Town is the main highlight of the weekend and features colorfully dressed troupes, local bands and the Moko Jumbies. The parade then winds its way back to the festival grounds for more village entertainment and live music by Heart Attack Band from St Thomas. So enjoy your chocolate eggs this Easter – but be sure to hop to it and enjoy the festivities in Virgin Gorda for a great time with family and friends for one of the best social events on the BVI calendar. Age Gap Dilemma
Ask Koren
Dear Koren; I’m a woman in my fifties and I have been involved with a man in his sixties for the past four years. I have found out recently that my partner has just fathered a child who is now 8 months old with a young lady in her twenties. I’m now faced with a choice of either staying in this relationship or moving on; I am not sure which way to turn. Can you give some advice please thanks? –Uncertain
him going to stay a dating situation with no talk of marriage? These are all questions you need to know to make an informed decision. You have to figure out what you want for yourself going forward. I don’t think that it is fair that in your fifties, when you have paid your dues to society and now have reached this mature stage, that you need to be in any wrangling and tangling with this gentleman and his ‘Lolita’ type lover. Do you even trust him right now, at this minute? Exercise some dignity and some control over your life and if he is truly remorseful about his behavior and committed to you, then you can decide if you want to stay. However, someone who is truly remorseful does not wait to be found out to ask forgiveness and someone who loves you will want to commit to you only and not do things to endanger your health or to destroy your happiness.
Dear Uncertain, I am sorry that you have had the misfortune of being with such a sneaky man for four long years. A man who saw it fit to have unprotected sex with another woman, thereby raising the risk of exposing you to infections if you trusted him enough to have unprotected sex with him. A man who having lived for so long, at this stage of his life, still thought it okay to lie and cheat and deceive. Now you are just finding out eight months after the fact that he has a baby. Even if he came and asked your forgiveness, the evidence of his indiscretion would always be there. The child is innocent so he might still visit which will bring him into constant contact with the young lady. Is that relationship over? Is he committed to you? Was your relationship with

Praise Where Praise is Due We all have our airline travel stories, and normally at least at some point, the airline is usually at fault. Whether they have failed to fix the plane, or to even get the plane on the tarmac, or that sin of all sins – they failed to communicate in any meaningful or audible way. Well, for a change this is not one of those. I had to go home unexpectedly to the UK recently for a family emergency, so when I was booking the tickets, the emphasis was on getting there as soon as humanly possible rather than checking the fine print. One complication was that my cousin and her son, who I was staying with, were booked to come here, to Tortola, to stay with me. The plan being that we travel together to our other cousins son’s wedding, to be held on St Thomas, which was now less than one week away – this was going to get very interesting… We were fortunate and managed to keep to our plans to attend the wedding in St Thomas. Everything was going according to plan until we were settled into our BA seats on the flight crossing the Atlantic. I was feeling quite relaxed and sleepy and just thinking about a movie and perhaps a glass of wine when Michael (my cousin’s son) nudged me and said…”take a look at this – doesn’t leave us much time does it?” I halfheartedly took the sheaf of papers he
Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
was waving at me and saw straight away exactly what he meant. We were arriving in Antigua at 3pm and leaving on Liat at 4pm! My previous relaxed state was now a thing of the past as I tried to figure out, how we would get off this full plane, get our bags, clear customs and immigration and be on our next plane in just one hour. Well, I should not have worried as before I could take a chill pill, an air steward came to us and advised us of the same problem as they had received a message from Liat. “Not to worry,” she said, “we will get you off first and your bags will have to come on a later plane, just head for customs and ask for Suzanne.” OK, so, not great about the bags, but at least there was a chance. When we landed, however, there was going to be no quick exit off this plane, so we waited… 5, 10, 15 agonizing minutes dragged by. Suddenly, though, there was a gap and we just went for it, like horses out of their starting gates and we sprinted ahead. Luckily when we got to immigration they knew of us and whizzed us through the formalities and security. Then as we approached the gate for the Liat flight, our savior Suzanne magically appeared with the news that they had managed to get our bags onto our flight. Now that is what I call customer service – thank you Suzanne, you saved the day.

Jennifer Love Hewitt gives The Client List a new reading A racier image of the former Ghost Whisperer and Party of Five star is the big selling point of The Client List, a series spinoff of the 2010 cable movie that earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination. Premiering Sunday, April 8, the Lifetime show casts the actress — also one of its executive producers — in the new role of Riley Parks, a Texas wife and mother who finds work as a day spa masseuse, then is left by her husband. Many of her co-workers “provide other services,” as the network puts it, to customers ... but Riley maintains, “I don’t give extras.” However, as her financial situation gets more dire, and the temptation of added profit increases, her internal moral battle grows. Loretta Devine Waiting to Exhale plays the spa’s pragmatic owner, with Cybill Shepherd and Colin Egglesfield Something Borrowed as Riley’s mother and brother-in-law. “I’ve gotten so many text messages from friends, either standing beneath a billboard in L.A. or on a street in New York, standing next to me (on a ‘Client List’ poster) with their thumbs up,’ Hewitt muses of the attention to her newest venture. “It’s been quite fun, and it’s nice to know that we’re all working really hard on something the network is promoting.” Hewitt recalls that while making the initial movie, “We all joked about the fact that it could be a really interesting series. When you’re filming something, you honestly have no idea how the audience will take it. Then after the movie did so well, it definitely was in Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
the back of my mind: ‘I wonder if there is more of this story to tell.’ We could tell more of the ins and outs of the everyday life of someone who finds herself in this situation, and what that means for her and her family.” Thus was born the character Riley, but Hewitt believes the series is “enough like the movie that I think people who loved that will be satisfied. At the same time, it’s very different. We have enough time to break down where this woman is, emotionally and psychologically, in the process. Since she’s a single mom, you’ll learn what her marriage was and is, and what the chances are for it to be again.” Even before its debut, The Client List had sparked controversy. The group Licensed Massage Therapists is opposing the telecast of the series, claiming it’s “a huge step backward” in how the profession is depicted. “I feel badly that they feel offended,” Hewitt says, “but I respect that people need to say what they need to say. “I’m not saying every massage parlor in the world gives ‘happy endings,’ nor do I know which ones do, but it is a part of our society. And even if it wasn’t, it’s just a part of our story. It’s entertainment.” Also a recurring guest star on TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland as Wendie Malick’s daughter, Hewitt is happy to have a major voice on the production side of The Client List as well. “It’s something that I’m sort of used to,” she notes, “but I think that with every new project comes new problems and new excitement. Everything is so different, this comes with its own learning curve, but it’s great. I care about every single second and what the audience thinks. And if we find ourselves with a hit show on our hands, it’ll be that much sweeter.” 8

The Hunger Games perfectly. Woody Harrelson was impeccably cast as her drunkard advisor Haymitch and Elizabeth Banks plays eccentric Effie Trinket to a T. Donald Sutherland is bonechilling Capitol President Snow, a character I can’t wait to see more of in the movies to come. Katniss’ story continues in the sequels Catching Fire and Mockingjay, with the next installment due late next year. The Hunger Games is a tough story to explain without giving too much away, but trust when I say that Katniss is perhaps my favorite fictional character ever. Her strength, maturity and intelligence are all admirable. In short, she’s no Bella Swan.
After much hype and a long wait, fans of Susan Collins' book The Hunger Games received satisfaction last weekend when the movie adaptation premiered and broke box office records. For those unfamiliar with the storyline: 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen lives in Panem, the totalitarian country that used to be the United States. To keep the 12 districts of Panem in line, the allpowerful Capitol requires that each year, one boy and one girl from each district are offered in "tribute" to compete in The Hunger Games, a nation-wide televised event in which the 24 teens fight to the death. To the victor (and his district) go a year's worth of much needed food. Katniss volunteers to compete in place of her 12year-old sister, and thus becomes the protagonist of the story and the unwitting impetus for a revolution. As is always the case, the movie vs. book debate rages fiercely with The Hunger Games, and also as usual, I come down firmly on the side of the book. But this movie is perhaps the most faithful book to film adaptation that I have seen, and much of that comes from the presence of the lead actors. Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar-nominated for Winter’s Bone, brings Katniss to life Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

National Record Holders Leading Carifta Games Team Never in the territory’s history of competing in the Carifta Games—which dates back to 1976—has there been a squad heading to the premier regional Jr. Championships targeting Under 17 and Under 20 athletes, with so many national record holders. When the territory’s record 16 athletes steps on the National Sports Complex turf in Devonshire, Bermuda on Saturday, four of the athletes would have accounted for seven national records so far this season and contributed to the more than 25 revisions of the territory’s top 10 all time listings in several events. Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner has taken down Darwn Peters’ 3000m mark of 11 minutes, 50.67 seconds, when she ran 10:53.1 during the Elmore Stoutt High School inter-house pre events competition. But, she wasn’t done. Four days later, she snatched Chantel Scatliffe’s 16-year-old 1500m mark of 5:09.9, when she became the first woman to run under 5 minutes, completing the sojourn in 4:50.50. Prior to that, the 14-year-old twice improved her 800m Jr. National Record, with a best of 2:13.80. Shot Putter Trevia Gumbs has twice tossed the ball out to 11.59m (38’0”), last Thursday being the most recent. Her twin sister Tynelle has claimed the Javelin Throw mark, by going into a stratosphere where no woman went before—throwing the spear over 100ft. On March 10, she took down Taheriah Lewis’ 2004 Javelin Throw mark of 30.09m (98’8”) with four throws over 100ft settling for 34.02m (111’7”). On Thursday, she obliterated that mark with a heave of 36.74m (120’2”). J’Maal Alexander led a historic first high school Boys 100m race with the top three breaking 11.00 seconds, when he ran 10.56 to take the Sr. Boys cen-

tury ahead of Shaquoy Stephens’ 10.78 and Brandon Andrew’s personal best of 10.97. Alexander’s mark shattered his own 11.13 meet mark from last year and improved his personal best, National Jr. and National Scholastic Record of 10.81 seconds from 2011. He climbed from No. 8 to No. 3 on the territory's all time list, behind Dion Crabbe and Keita Cline's 10.25 and 10.44 respectively. In the process, Alexander also qualified for the July 10-15 IAAF World Jr. Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Stephens' 10.78 improved his personal best from last year's 10.87 and jumped from No. 10 to No. 6 on the all time list. The 2012 Carifta Games delegation is comprised of the following: Under 17 Boys: Aundre Turnbull, Long Jump/High Jump. Girls: Nelda Huggins, 100/200m; Trevia Gumbs, Shot Put, Tynelle Gumbs, Javelin Throw; Taylor Hill, 100/200m; Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner, 800/1500m; Tarika Moses, 400m; Jonel Lacey, 100/300m Hurdles; Deya Erickson, 100/300m Hurdles. Under 20 Girls: Niayla Smith, 800m; Shiaian Vandenburg, 100/200m; Tarikah Warner, Long Jump/High Jump. Boys: J’Maal Alexander, 100/200m; Shaquoy Stephens, 200/400m; Brandon Andrew, 110m Hurdles/Heptathlon. 17
