Earth Day and Family Fun Come along to Myett’s this Saturday, April 21st to celebrate Earth Day/Family Fun Day from 12 noon until sunset at Cane Garden Bay. The day has been chosen to celebrate Green VI Glass Studio’s first anniversary and everything that has been achieved to date for a greener, cleaner and healthier BVI. Apart from the fabulous setting and beach BBQ, there will be live music and nautical tales by the ol’ pirate himself – Michael Beans. Other activities for the day include glass blowing demonstrations, a sand sculpture competition, games and crab racing with great prizes. Since opening their doors, Green VI's Glass Studio has come a long way, thanks to sponsors and supporters. There have been approximately 20,000 visitors to the studio including students from most of the schools in the BVI. Around 10,000 lbs of glass waste has been processed and Green VI’s Glass Studio broke even for the first time in February 2012.

Another first, was that all of the Spring Regatta awards this year were skillfully made from recycled glass, giving winners a unique glass trophy and helping the regatta team win a Gold award for their green efforts. "Charlotte DcDevitt, owner of Green VI said, "Earth Day is really important to us, not only because it marks our first year of Green VI's Glass Studio being open but it also highlights that to make change requires the co-operation of businesses and the community and this is how we aim to continue to tackle recycling in the BVI." Dear Koren, I feel very burdened down because I am in a relationship with a man who loves me a lot but I have so many secrets that I am trying to hide from him and it is really affecting me. How do I cope with this? – LT

better. The earlier you tell him, the more likely he is to be open-minded. How will you feel if you found out he were keeping secrets from you? The best way to cope with your situation is to decide if it is something your partner needs to know and if it is, then tell him. Being honest and open is important for a relationship. The benefits are that it will build trust, it can encourage your partner to be more honest with you and you have the assurance that the person is with you because they want to be, not because they are blinded or fooled into it. Can you imagine how nice your relationship will be knowing that your partner knows all about you and loves you anyway? So decide if he needs to know and if he does, share this information with him and drop those burdens.

Dear LT, It sounds as though you are very unhappy about having to hide things from your partner. It cannot be easy to be around him all the time and not be able to say what is going on with you or what is on your mind. Holding secrets and feeling so strongly about it can cause you to become stressed, have headaches, anxiety or other emotional and physical reactions. I hope you know that you do not have to tell your partner everything. How much you reveal is dependent on what the information is, how long you have been together and whether it will affect the relationship. I do not know what these secrets are but you must feel as if him knowing them will either change the way he looks at you or jeopardize your relationship. Well I have news for you – if the secrets are ones that will affect the relationship or they involve lies, when he does find out, things can only be worse not

Comical Exchanges This time of year, a lot of the folks that spend the winter here are heading back home. I’m reminded of some of the conversations I’ve had with acquaintances I’ve met mostly while on the beach at Smuggler’s Cove. One couple in particular, Barrie and Sandra from Nova Scotia, were always quick with a hello and a story. He says the beauty of the beach is much like that of the pubs back home, is that you can chat with the same people for maybe hours – but you don’t go to one another’s home, it’s easy, no commitment. Barrie gave us the exclusive tip about One Mart selling turkeys for 99 cents a pound. We then decided he was worthy of our ear for the duration. Seems he gets quite a bit of attention from the young ones. Children follow him down the beach shouting: Santa, Santa. Children at the drugstore in Road Town stand or sit by him staring up in wonderment. He just tells them to make sure they’re good the whole year. He also mentioned going on an errand to Kelly’s Hardware Store from his house in the West End. Before getting to the store he picked up a young hitchhiker heading to school in Capoons Bay. He told the young lad that he had to make a stop at

When Barry exited the car, the boy remarked that he was a bit hungry and would the gentlemen mind buying him a biscuit. “Do they sell biscuits in there?” Barrie asked. “Oh yes,” said the lad. They both go in the hardware store, Barrie gets what he came for and the youngster picks up a package of Oreo cookies. Back in the car riding up Zion Hill, Barrie tells the young man about the time when his son was in university and had entered a contest to see how many cookies could be eaten in a certain amount of time. His son won the contest and the prize was a case of Oreos. The boy slowly turns his head toward Barrie and remarks, “Does he still have them”?

Cuba Gooding Jr. Puts His Hallmark On New ABC Movie Working with, and learning from, other established actors has proved useful for Cuba Gooding Jr. The Jerry Maguire Oscar winner makes a rare television appearance Sunday, April 22, in ABC’s fact-inspired new Hallmark Hall of Fame drama Firelight. In playing Dwayne “DJ” Johnson, a counselor at a correctional facility for young women, Gooding is teamed with a number of actresses just starting to make names for themselves ... a situation he says he knew how to handle from his experiences with such stars as Laurence Fishburne (in Boyz N the Hood), Dustin Hoffman Outbreak and Jerry Maguire himself, Tom Cruise. “They are real artists, and they allow you to create without stifling your creativity,” Gooding reflects. “That was the main lesson I took from them. Making Outbreak with Dustin and Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey, we really kind of sang when we were on the set together. It wasn’t just about upping our game but about making sure everybody was on the same page. “Dustin is a real actor’s actor. He was always going in and out of everyone’s trailer, saying, ‘Hey, you could say this line’ or ‘You could do it this way.’ Since he was in first position (in the cast), you’d think, ‘Why is this guy so giving?’ Then you’d realize he knew he was only as good as the people around him. Gooding was determined to fill a similar role with his Firelight co-stars, including DeWanda Wise and Yakina Horn, whose characters eventually serve as volunteer assistants during fires and natural disasters. “They were beautiful,” he maintains. “They just blew me away. Whenever they asked anything of me, I’d just keep talking as much as I could, to keep them comfortable. One of them would say, ‘I can’t believe I’m working with someone with an Academy Award!’ And I’d say, ‘Wait a minute. I can’t believe I’m working with you guys.’ ” Since he’s also the lead in a series pilot for Fox, a law drama titled Guilty, Gooding could be more of a television presence in the near future. Such a schedule wouldn’t be completely alien to him, since he’s had to work at a fairly fast clip on a number of directto-video adventures he’s made in recent years Ticking Clock, The Hit List, etc.). “If I had come straight from Jerry Maguire to Firelight, I probably would have been unnerved,” Gooding says of the differing production schedules, “but I’ve done a lot of these small action movies, and they’re all at a TV pace, shot very quickly with very few takes. I take as much time as I can prepping the character, so that there isn’t a lack of quality in my performance.” There certainly was no lack of it in Gooding’s award-caliber work as embittered football player Rod Tidwell, opposite Cruise as the title sports agent, in 1996’s Jerry Maguire. Through that film, Show me the money! was entered immediately by Gooding into the annals of all-time great movie quotes. 8

Model Behavior Get on your glam this Saturday at the first annual Stomp Model Madness Official Casting. Soirée BVI, in conjunction with Barefoot Wine are hosting the competition and are looking for females from 16-27 to compete in this runway and spokes-model challenge. Underwater Beach Cleanup As part of the Earth Day celebrations, head over to Myett’s and sign up for their first underwater beach clean up on Wednesday 25th April from 8:00am. During the event there will be live music on the beach all day, a lunch special with lionfish tasting and a morning and afternoon dive to do the cleanup before a traditional pig roast on the beach. When his wife’s younger brother Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) runs into trouble on a smuggling run, the teen finds himself in debt to a tattooed drug lord named Briggs (Giovani Ribisi).
