Puppy Love I never had pets as a little girl, not even a gold fish. I’ve never really been a dog person either. But this holiday season changed all that as, I became the proud owner of not one but two puppies. They always say having a dog is almost like having a child and I never understood that until now. If you love your dogs you will treat them with love and compassion. “Supreme” my first pup, a gift, came about a month before Christmas. He is a golden brown, brindle red-nose pitbull and he is the cutest little thing ever and the moment I saw him I fell in love. That first day I got him we played and got his house set up, then later that night he cried the whole night and I thought; what did I get myself into, can I deal with this? As the days went by he got more used to being around the house and me. Then we got into a routine, I walk him twice a day once in the morning and in the evening. I’ve bought him a couple chew toys and love taking him to the park where he can run. “Primo” as I affectionately call him is now four months and growing like a weed. Then about a week after Christmas Roxy joined the family, a black and white patchwork female pitbull. I

was a little nervous to bring her home because I wasn’t sure how Supreme would react to her, but the moment they met Primo and Roxy became instant friends. They play and sometimes fight and like a true female Roxy is a little bossy and stubborn some of the time I know there are lots of misconceptions about pitbulls, that they are viscious dogs by nature. Maybe I would have agreed a few months ago, but I would have to disagree with that now. I realize any dog can be viscious, it all depends on the way you train them. So, in the matter of two short months I went from never owning a pet to becaming the proud owner of two loving puppies.

Ask Koren Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!
Wavering Goals Ask on Koren Dear Koren, I started my resolutions for 2013 with so much vigour and I am already starting to get a bit fed-up of the gym and also saving money means my nails and hair are not as nice looking as they usually are. The people around me are not helping by constantly telling me I don’t look as good as I used to and I find their attitude just stinks. How do I maintain the discipline to stick to my goals? –RT
Instead of criticizing your appearance, they will offer to give you a style or send you articles on “cuteness on a budget,” It’s nice to have people tell you nice things all the time, but in the absence of that, boost yourself daily with positive words and follow through with positive actions. It’s your life, don’t expect anyone to want the best for you as much as you want it for yourself. Don’t bite off more than you can chew; make the goals small so when you accomplish the little ones, you can feel so proud of yourself and want to do more. Start writing your master plan for who you want to be and where you want to be even if you have to take an entire wall in your bedroom. Map your progress, visualize the improved you and create some slogans to keep you going and stick them everywhere. This is your life and no one else’s and you are a warrior and not a wimp, so don’t give up.
Dear RT, What you are feeling is quite normal. Many times we have good intentions and even start off with a bang and we waver sometimes, question ourselves and feel de-motivated. You are brave for admitting that you need help. First of all, you need to remind yourself of why you chose those goals. The benefits of going to the gym could mean becoming physically fit, improved health and mental wellbeing, less susceptibility to disease and all that could lead to improved confidence and a better outlook on life. Saving money is good for when you need to make a big purchase, like a vacation and also if there is an emergency. Your goals are quite good . Secondly, you need to change your cheerleaders. Real friends will not tell you that you don’t look good, they will give suggestions for how you can look better.

The Job Seeks Gainful Employment on CBS sophomore year,’ and a million reasons (for that) went through my head. “When I actually said, ‘Why, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you having a great time?’ She said, ‘The problem is, the graduating seniors at my college, none of them have real jobs. They’re interning, or they’re doing part-time work or working in family businesses. None of them are in a real training program in the real companies and real businesses where they want to work.’ “At that point, a light bulb went off in my head, which is that I would create an authentic competition for employment. I started thinking how refreshing it would be to have a competition on television that actually wasn’t about people who could sing or dance or tell jokes. “As great as those shows are, and as much as I enjoy them, for the vast majority of the population – our livelihood, our happiness, our ability to take care of ourselves or our family, comes from our ability to be gainfully employed.
With the unemployment rate hovering near 8 percent overall — it’s much higher for certain age and ethnic groups, and higher overall if you count in the underemployed and those who have stopped seeking work — jobs are tops on the minds of many Americans. Even those who are employed may find themselves with shrinking hours, paychecks and benefits or facing shaky prospects for the future. At least for a few people, a new competitive reality TV series could be the answer to their prayers, and for others, it may offer insights to improve their professional outlook. On Friday, February. 8, CBS premieres The Job, from executive producers Mark Burnett (Survivor), Michael Davies (The Glee Project) and Jay Bienstock. After The Glee Project, a competition to find a new cast member for the hit Fox series, Davies wondered if there were other areas of life to which he could apply this format. “Around the same time,” he says, “my daughter, who was a freshman in college, finished her freshman year and said, ‘Dad, I don’t think I’m going back for my

Trouble with the Curve I am not a fan of baseball movies, but I was charmed by Trouble with the Curve which stars Clint Eastwood as Gus, an aging and cranky baseball scout whose failing eyesight is jeopardizing his ability to do his job. Amy Adams plays his estranged daughter, Mickey (named after baseball legend, Mickey Mantle), a high-powered lawyer who is up for a partnership with her law firm, if she wins a high-stakes case for the company. Mickey’s ambitions are jeopardized when Pete Klein

Olympic Champs at Harrigan-Scott Camp Of all her accomplishments in track and field, Tahesia Harrigan-Scott is making a significant contribution to the further development of young talent in the BVI. She has organized the Harrigan-Scott Speed and Technical Camp on Saturday, February 2nd at the Multipurpose Sports Complex. In order to see more athletes make it to major championships at the Senior levels. This camp features London 2012 Olympic Games 400m champion Kirani James of Grenada, who established the 400m All Comers Record of 46.85 seconds in 2008 as a 16 year old. James is also the 2011 IAAF Senior World 400m champion – and one of only nine athletes to have also won the IAAF World Youth and IAAF World Junior Championships titles. He will be joined by the USA’s Dwight Phillips, a 2004 Athens Olympic Games Long Jump champ, who has also bagged 4 IAAF World titles and has the joint 5th best Long Jump of all time. “This clinic is a way to get more young people involved in athletics, exposed to world class athletes and to get them to understand what goes on in track and field in terms of nutrition, anti doping, body maintenance and teaching them the technique and demonstration of drills in warming up,” explained Harrigan-Scott, a Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympian. Harrigan-Scott said in addition to the Olympic champions, J.J. Johnson, a former elite sprinter will be in attendance demonstrating some of the techniques he feels are helpful to calf, hamstring and quad injuries. She hopes it brings a lot of awareness. James’ coach and 1976 USA Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist Harvey Glance – will be in attendance and

addressing running techniques and relaxation along with James. “We have a lot of talented people in our country, especially the kids,” the territory’s double sprint record holder noted. “My ultimate goal is to increase the number of participants when we get to the major championships, especially at the senior level. We have a big team on the Youth and Junior levels, but we want this to carry over into the Senior level. I think we need to encourage them as they make the transition so that there is a drop off when they get to the senior level,” the 2008 IAAF World Indoor 60m bronze medalist added. “That’s my goal – targeting them from youth. Letting them have fun, get experience with world class athletes and hear their experiences and realize that everybody goes out there and does the same thing,” she pointed out. “It’s those who have the heart to make it happen on the day that makes a difference.” The registration fee is $20 per athlete. Young athletes interested in participating in the camp can contact Tahesia on facebook harrigan-scott st camp. The camp begins with registration at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday. 19
