This Week’s Feature Story

Who’s Up For Sunday Dinner? Don’t miss this latest theatrical delight by Limelight Productions – Sunday Dinner, a romantic comedy in two acts by Diane Grant. The local actors will be treading the boards at the Fort Burt Hotel on the 5th, 6th and 7th October at 6.30pm and appropriately, the play will be presented in the dinner theatre style – with dinner being part of the theatrical experience, which will be served between the two acts. The story is an entertaining one; Charlie Davies is an attractive, intelligent, single man who is eager to please his girlfriend Lori. He also tries to keep his mother happy, the elaborately named Violet Costa Della Torre. Stir into the mix an ex-girlfriend, a small apartment and a potted tree and you have all the right ingredients for a highly entertaining evening. Producer Paul Cowlard said, “Rehearsals are well underway and if the audience have as much fun watching this play as we have had rehearsing it then they should leave with a smile on their face.” When asked about the choice of play, Paul explained, “We wanted to do a dinner style production with a small cast and bring the audience as close to the actors as possible – to create a more intimate atmosphere than regular theatre.”

Limelight Productions is a drama group, which have been producing quality theatre in the BVI since 1996. Featuring local actors, the group has always put on performances that appeal to a wide audience. Previous shows have included Aladdin, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, The Importance of Being Ernest, Pride and Prejudice and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The group is trying to attract more members to help behind the scenes or on the stage. So if you feel there is a budding thespian in you just bursting to get out, or if you would enjoy taking part helping with future productions, then you can find out more about Limelight at http://limelight-theatrebvi.com. The ticket price of $65 includes dinner and the play, so get yours today from Fort Burt and Infinite Solutions and get ready for a great evening of great food, frivolity and fun. – Jan Critchley

Losing Feeling for Husband

Ask Koren

Dear Koren, I have been married for almost 9 years and I am losing feelings for my husband. He has not done me anything bad but I don’t feel excited about coming home from work to see him and whenever he has to travel I feel relieved. I don’t know why this is happening. I have thought about divorce, but with an 8 year old child who loves her father, I think she would be devastated. What do you suggest I do? – No love

infidelity or abuse, especially if both parties are willing to try. Consider the following: • Talk to your husband and see if he is willing to consider couples counseling or at least putting some more effort into the relationship. • Make a point of doing something weekly together that you both enjoy – going to the movies, walking on the beach, playing dominoes…anything that makes you connect as a couple. • Make a scrapbook of your dating life and early marriage. Sometimes reminiscing will help you to realize that what you first noticed in each other is still there. • Consider taking a trip together. If you cannot leave Antigua, then try to go to a hotel for a weekend and relax, away from the usual daily stressors and try to rebuild what was lost. • Have dinner together every evening. It might take some tweaking of schedules, but this could be a great time to talk about your day and enjoy eye contact. Flirting over dinner can be a good bonus. With some effort, commitment and patience, your marital feelings can be restored and you can fall in love with each other all over again.

Dear “No love”, The good thing about love is that it is not just based on feelings, but it is also a mental decision. So even when you don’t feel the fire and the excitement, love can still be there once you choose to love that person. If you don’t suffer with any form of mood disorder, then maybe your relationship is just at a plateau. Apathy comes when one party is too laid back and untouched by what is happening in the relationship, so no effort is made to keep the spark alive or you take each other for granted. There are no compliments anymore, you compare your spouse with others and fail to recognize their special qualities, or it could be that one of you has outgrown the other – one has matured and developed and the other person is emotionally and intellectually the same as when you met. Divorce should not be the first option if there is no

Think Like a Man Think Like a Man, is a comedy based on Steve Harvey's 2009 best-selling book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. The movie follows a dozen couples as they attempt to navigate the brave new world of love by the book. The movie, which is very sitcomsetup-driven (it's The Best Man meets Valentines Day), introduces its embattled pairings with titles like ''The Non-Committer vs. The Girl Who Wants the Ring'' and ''The Dreamer vs. The Woman Who Is Her Own Man.'' All of the main characters are bonded by a common interest: Steve Harvey’s (real-life) romance guide, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. The ladies are following Harvey’s advice to get the results they want out of each relationship and the men are stymied by it because they have no idea they are being played. Single mom Candace (Regina Hall) has to un-tie the apron strings for mama’s boy Michael (Terrence J). Mya (Meagan Good) won’t allow the player Zeke (Romany Malco) into her bedroom for 90 days. Kristen (Gabrielle Union) wants longtime boyfriend Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara) to finally propose. And statusconscious CFO Lauren (Taraji P. Henson) needs to decide if she’s willing to date a broke chef (Michael Ealy). Watching all this frantic activity from the sidelines is Cedric (a hilarious Kevin Hart), who can't stop jabbering about the divorce he only thinks he wants. When Mya, Candace, Lauren and Kristen get their hands on Harvey’s book and start reading it, they immediately find out the tricks that they need to do to

get the trifling men in their lives to step up to the plate. The men are caught off guard, as their childish ways are questioned and confronted, and have to find some way to fight back. When they find out on the way to a party that all their women have been coming at them with the same questions and harassments, they work together to find out the secret to it all: the book. They each buy a copy of the book and get to work. They retaliate and for a moment things are going great. Because they now have the answer to all the questions, before the questions are even asked, that is until things blow-up in their faces and they get caught. The women are heartbroken, as the men who did everything right were really just following the book to get them off their backs. The men each realize what they have to do and step up in order to get their women back in their lives, providing a happy ending for all. Think Like a Man follows the typical romantic comedy formula but provides a few good laughs in between. So, if you’re looking for a good laugh or maybe some tips watch the movie or better still get the book. 13

Taut and Fraught With New Drama, ‘Homeland’ Returns tunnel, and now he thinks he can effect change in a nonviolent, political way. “What Brody will discover is he is a man not in charge of his own destiny,” Lewis continues. His foil is Carrie Mathison, a bipolar CIA agent, and Claire Danes has been racking up awards for her portrayal of this brilliant and tortured woman. At the cliffhanger ending of the freshman season, Carrie suffered a psychotic breakdown and ranted about what she had figured out. “In this season she is more balanced emotionally,” Danes says. “It is a little less taxing than last year. Her nerves were starting to unravel. The nice thing about Carrie is she is ultimately right and ultimately victorious. She is not always recognized for being that in an overt way, but she is successful in the way that really matters, so that kind of saves me and saves my spirit as I render her.” When this season opens, Brody is already a congressman with the vice presidency dangled before him. Yet Abu Nazir, mastermind of the terrorist plot, continues to try to manipulate Brody. “It is a story about fear, heroes versus nonheroes, and how fine the line is between the two,” says Morena Baccarin, who plays Brody’s wife, Jessica. “I would love to see it go on indefinitely,” she says, but adds, “I think it’s a story that has an end, if you don’t want to lose people.” Claire Danes and Damian Lewis star in Homeland, returning for its second season Sunday on Showtime.

“Who knew people like to sit down on a Sunday night and feel anxious and sweaty?” asks Damian Lewis. Lewis plays Nicholas Brody on Showtime’s critically acclaimed Homeland, which returns for its second season Sunday, Sept. 30, just as taut and fraught with terrifying prospects as before. Brody, who was a POW Marine, became a Muslim in captivity. Last season, he struggled with the age-old questions of good versus evil. Is he an American hero or a ticking time bomb? Will he be a congressman or a terrorist? Will he be both? And what does homeland mean to him? “Brody’s mission statement at the end of Season One is, ‘I want to use non-violence.’ There is an earthly, corporal love for his daughter,” Lewis says. “Her voice pierces through the mist. He has been a man under water. He chooses light at the end of the 15

Remembering Cyclist Jason Bally I can’t believe 12 years have already rushed by since Trinidadian cyclist Jason Bally was innocently gunned down in Sea Cows Bay in 1999 on his way home. His memory lives on. This weekend, the Jason Bally Memorial Road Race started by David Thomas in his honor – will be staged on Sunday. However, before cyclists get in the saddle at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, the focus will be on Bally on Saturday afternoon. At 6 pm, the traditional memorial service in his honor will be held a few meters west of the Domino Gas Station where he fell and where a plaque hangs on a pole in his honor. Local and regional cyclists and well wishers will gather at this spot for a memorial service to recall his life. “We are inviting a number of people – not only people who are involved in cycling – to come and be a part of this short brief service,” BVI Cycling Federation President Darel Christopher Sr. said. “We’ve also invited Minister of Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn and also District Representative, Hon. Julian Fraser. This will be a short service, where we will speak about Jason and highlight him and what he has done for the sport.” Final race registration and a pasta dinner will follow the service at the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School. There will be no race day registration. Race registration fee is $35. Then, on Sunday morning, Tortola’s south coast roads from Slaney to West End, will light up with riders from Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Maarten, St. Croix and the host BVI, battling for the

top prizes on offer. “I think the Antiguan team is a very strong team,” Christopher Sr. said of the seven cyclists who will be trekking the course including former Antigua and Barbuda's Robert Marsh, Jason Bally bests St. Vincent and the Grenadines' Orano Andrews last year Memorial champ Geoffrey Pollydore. “We are definitely looking at a stronger competitive field and more Caribbean islands taking part.” The race, which offers courses for different levels of participants, will begin at Slaney. The race heads to Towers, West End and return. On the return, riders will go over Manuel Reef Hill en route to the Prospect Reef Roundabout returning to the start/finish line for a 12.4 mile loop. Elite riders will complete six laps or 74.4 miles which will be electronically timed – the first for any cycling event in the territory while Masters division riders will cover five laps for a total of 62 miles. The Juniors and Women’s course is 49.6 miles or four laps while the Fun/Novice segment covers two laps or 24.8 miles. No aero bars are allowed in this race. When asked for a time range for a winner to cross the line, Christopher said, “That could be interesting. If we have a really fast race, the time could be just over 3 hours for the leading group,” he predicted. Christopher asks for the public’s co-operation on the route on Sunday morning. 17
