This Week’s Feature Story by Jan Critchley
Myett’s – Keeping the Fun Alive We may be in the quiet season, but we still need places to go and relax, enjoy a happy hour drink and listen to some good ol’ foot tapping tunes. Well, not to worry as Myett’s has you covered with a full entertainment program that will keep you having fun in the sun through these off-season months! First up is their new Happy Hour performer, Paul Porter, Myett’s guest international recording artist, who originally hails from California where Paul honed his guitar playing and singing skills since his teens – at one point using the time to practice during his graveyard shift at the local gas station! Since his first live performance, he was hooked and has continued to perform live shows, both solo and with his band ever since. During his Happy Hour performances at Myett’s he will be playing solo on acoustic guitar and entertaining the crowd with songs from the 70s onwards, bringing an eclectic mix of reggae, rock and his original tunes – including his latest single, Willing I Am, which is currently available on iTunes. For those that want to stay active, Saturday is the Paddle Board Fun Race with registration at 9am. After the success of the first event a few weeks ago, this is
a great opportunity to give this exciting and fun sport a try, and you may even win a great prize. There will be two races, the first at 10am before the Fun Relay Race at 1pm. The best thing is that you don’t have to be an expert, everyone is welcome, so just go along and try something new. A DJ will be spinning the decks on the beach to get the party going from 2pm and there will be Volley Ball and many other beach games to keep the whole family happy. And for the foodies – be prepared to be amazed as St Croix’s Award Winning Celebrity Guest Chef Brian Wisbauer will be cooking up a storm at Myett’s from Tuesday, September 12th to the 27th. A five-time award winner in the “Taste of St Croix” competition, Chef Brian will be presenting cooking demonstrations and preparing amazing specialties for guests. So, whether you want to relax to the Happy Hour sounds of Paul Porter, take to the water on a paddle-board or just enjoy some good food, head over to Myett’s – where the beat goes on! For more information call 495-9649 or visit www.myetts.com for updates on demonstrations and menus. Also check out our centre pages for details on Paul’s performances and other events.

to see how important this relationship is to you and that can have a positive impact on him. Two: start a project together. Spending time on something you both like can really help you to appreciate each other’s strengths and build a stronger bond. It could be doing charity work, planning a nice trip, starting a garden, starting a part time business – something you both are excited about. Three: demonstrate your love in your words and in your actions. Sometimes we know the love is there but we take it for granted. Never, ever take your spouse for granted. Cook his favourite meals, remind him what you love about him and date him sometimes. Encourage him to do the same with you and let him know how much you need his love and how happy you are to have him in your life. No two people are perfect and every relationship has its rough patches, but with two committed partners putting their best foot forward and giving 100%, you could be amazed that these years could be the best you have ever had.
Dear Koren, Me and my husband have not been getting along much for the last 3 years after he had misbehaved. Our daughter is the glue that was holding us together and now she is leaving for college and I am afraid of how things will be. We are both in our early fifties and I would really like to be happy. How can we get things back on track? –Wife Dear Wife, The best way to get things back on track is with both of you giving it your best shot. If you still love each other, then there is hope for your marriage. In fact, having the house to yourselves and having more time to share with each other, could be a huge benefit. You know what you want, but do you know what he wants? Before you get your hopes up or start any planning, you should find out what he wants. Does he also want to get things back on track? If he does not, then you can either let him go or try to convince him that the relationship is worth fighting for. If he admits that he is willing to try, then here are three good ways to start. One: have a recommitment ceremony. It does not have to be big or costly. Most women are great planners and nothing gets your juices flowing like having to plan a nice event and your enthusiasm will help him

Chirpy’s Children In February our cat Roger brought home a small chick, which my husband Alan and I nurtured in hopes of having an egg laying chicken one day. As time went on, it became increasingly clear that our former cute and fluffy chick (which we named Chirpy) had developed into a rooster and not a hen. Handsome and proud, Chirpy sported golden feathers, a splendid tail, and less desirably, a robust crow. Well, Chirpy took off one day, perhaps to find his original family, but in his place we have his progeny – ten black and brown hens. Warming to the idea of self-sufficiency, Alan constructed a large and airy hen house complete with nesting boxes and a forest full of perches – an architect designed pleasure dome for chickens. The hens are largely free range,
