This Week’s Feature Story by Jan Critchley
Olympic Hopefuls Committee said, “We want the whole community to come out and support our young Olympians-to-be. We will have with us some of the young athletes who will be representing the Virgin Islands at the highest level of global competition and this will be the first time that the Territory will be represented in the sports of swimming and sailing at the Youth Olympic Games.” The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will take place in Nanjing, China from August 16th to 28th, and all participants must be between 15 and 18 years of age. “Olympic Day is an occasion to highlight the Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship,” noted Penn. “The philosophy requires us to be responsible citizens, striving for excellence in all that we do, and to foster local and global friendships.” He continued, “Most recently Peter Adam Crook demonstrated these very values during his time at the Olympics in Sochi, Russia and this will be a fitting occasion to recognize his contribution to the Virgin Islands’ Olympic history.” For more information on Olympic Day Events, please contact Cleave Farrington, Executive Director of the BVI Olympic Committee on 542-1007 or 4966007 or by e-mail at cmfarrington@bviolympics.org.

Hard To Walk Away From Married Lover
Ask Koren
Dear Koren, I’m involved with a married man and his wife lives abroad and we have been together for nearly two years. We have been through a lot and he says he loves me but nothing is changing. He has to be home by a certain time some nights so he can talk to her and the children. I am not happy with the situation but it’s really hard to walk away and every time I try he keeps drawing me back saying he cannot do without me. How do I get out of this? – Need Help smeared, the guilt, the lies and the knowledge that you are just someone’s distraction. After you have made your decision, you will have moments when you are lonely and miss him and the urge to call him to fill that void will be strong. Find other things to occupy yourself with so that you are not sitting around feeling down in the dumps. Have a support system of friends who are firm and who care about you, who you can call on when you want to rush back to him; they can hang out with you, hold your hand, take you to the movies or just stay on the phone and talk you through it. As time goes by, you will become used to doing without him and you will be open to loving someone who is single and who can make the kind of commitment that you deserve. Make a plan and stick to it and keep moving forward. You are worth it. Send your questions confidentially to askkoren@live.com or via twitter at @korennorton
Dear Need Help, Well newsflash! He can do without you because you do not provide oxygen to keep him alive, neither are you water or food. It is clear that you have developed some feelings for him and maybe he has for you too, so this will not be easy. He will say all kinds of things to you, but if your choice is to get out, then do not be convinced otherwise. You cannot blame him totally for a situation that you willingly got yourself into – but you can take responsibility for your own life. Maybe it would help if you consider whether the temporary pleasure of his company compares to the pain of letting yourself down, selling yourself short, hurting another woman, being alone when he has to go home, knowing that you are not his number one priority, having your character and reputation

Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of Black Pearl By Jan Critchley
Luther If you have not watched this brilliantly, raw series, Luther, starring the inimitable Idris Elba as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther. It is indisputably one of the best detective series to come out of the UK since Prime Suspect. To date there have been three series aired on BBC America and although creator John Cross, has confirmed that there will be no fourth series, which is sure to disappoint die hard fans, a feature film is now in production. He is a brilliant, yet troubled man. He is really just a guy who can’t find happiness in his personal life because his professional life dominates all. And there’s this other little bit about a brilliant yet psychopathic killer named Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), a woman that Luther was unable to imprison from series one and who re-appears, messing with both his head and his heart. The third series sees Luther under intense pressure, when he returns to investigate a twisted fetishist who is murdering women in a horrific echo of an unsolved case from the ‘80s. His boss Detective Superintendent Schenk (Dermot Crowley) though has another case to add to his load when a malicious internet tormentor, with many enemies is found murdered in his home. Pulled in every direction, Luther’s patience is wearing thin and he is involved in a car crash and he meets the beautiful and beguiling Mary Day (Sienna Guillory) and a romance develops between the two. However, nothing ever comes easily for John Luther and other forces are at work against him in the Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
shape of Detective Sergeant Erin Gray (Nikki AmukaBird and her boss Detective Superintendent Stark (David O’Hara) who will stop at nothing to bring Luther down. Their furtive plan also involves Luther’s colleague and best friend, Detective Superintendent, Justin Ripley (Warren Brown) who, to complicate matters further has also just embarked on a love affair with Grey. One morning in Luther’s flat, Mary has a visit from Stark and Grey, who try to turn Mary against him. She calls Luther distraught and when they meet, he can see there is now fear where there once had been love. Luther is getting close to solving the crimes, and Mary is back in his life when Alice makes an explosive re-entrance rescuing Luther from the grip of Stark and Grey. She is instantly jealous of Mary and refers to her as a “pixie” and Luther is forced to make an impossible choice. Luther is showing now on Netflix and available on DVD and iTunes. 6

Sea-ing It Clear I sometimes forget how fortunate I am to be living where most dream of vacationing. Then I go out and do something that reminds me of how blessed and lucky I am. Nature’s Little Secrets doesn’t begin to describe the beautiful British Virgin Islands. This week a group of friends and I (the Trefle team) got to experience the BVI in one of the most unique ways possible aboard the Sea It Clear Glass Bottom Boat Tour with the one and only Gumption. It was such a great experience that I had to share it with all of you. The day started early and we left for Virgin Gorda around 9am as the tour starts out of Gun Creek VG. After taking the 30-minute ferry then a short taxi ride we arrived at Gun Creek. I could feel everyone started getting more excited for the day’s activities mainly because no one knew what to expect. The first thing I noticed upon boarding the boat is the glass bottom of course but I also remember thinking, “Wow this is so cool, to experience the ocean from this point of view.” I began feeling even more excited and we hadn’t even left yet. We first headed out toward Oil Nut Bay and once we were over the first reef I was in awe at how beautiful and surreal it was. Everything was so blue and still, the odd fish would dart from behind a rock then scurry back to his hiding place. Then as tour continued, one of the girls yelled, “There! Go back I saw it, I saw a turtle.” There he was just swimming along with a little passenger on his back just chilling. A fish had made himself comfortable on the turtle’s shell and was just hitching a ride; it was if we weren’t even there. Then a few moments later there it was a stingray and usually I’m running away from stingrays but to see it that close was unreal. That was just the first half of the Sea It Clear Tour
and at mid-day we headed to the secluded ultra plush Necker Island for the second half of the “Gumption Necker Tour” a walking tour of the island and of course the main attraction the lemurs. Nestled right in the heart of Nature’s Little Secrets is the most amazing wildlife habitat. As an exclusive package deal that only Sea It Clear Tours can offer we were able to see the flamingos, the endangered turtles, the giant tortoises and the lemurs. Some of my brave friends even got into the cage and fed them. By the time we got back on the boat and headed back towards Virgin Gorda we say the most beautiful sight ever – starfish – not one or two we counted about 35 of them, it was absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for a new way to experience the pristine blue waters of the BVI then book your tour with Sea It Clear Glass Bottom Tours. Gumption is a positive and passionate young entrepreneur. He is well informed about the private island, animals and history of the island. I recommend you give it a try you won’t be disappointed. You can book your tour by visiting their Facebook page or email them at seaitclear@gmail.com. 11

Green Fleet Competition Every sport has an entry point for its youngsters to compete. Some sports here have the structure in place – some don’t. Over the weekend, the Royal BVI Yacht Club hosted a Green Fleet Regatta for 8-10 years olds at Nanny Cay Resort and Marina. The day started with the Race Team and the more experienced youth sailors, mentoring the 20 participants in boat rigging, sail trim and racing tips, which was followed by a skippers briefing. With the participants split into two fleets the more experienced sailors sailed 10 optimist dinghies around Sea Cow’s Bay where the race course had been set with the second fleet traveling around on ribs. The Intermediate fleet completed three races and the Advanced fleet four races with on the water coaching throughout before returning to Nanny Cay for a BBQ and awards ceremony. “The event was very successful. We invited the children that participate in our afterschool program and sail with us on a Saturday to attend,” noted Julie Rhodes, Royal BVI Yacht Club’s Club Manager. “It was the first time that most of them had been involved in any form of racing as some of them have been only sailing for a few months. For some of them, it was quite a challenge — being on a starting line and sailing to marks — but we had a lot of experienced key players on the water coaching them.” Rhodes said the experienced flotilla included Royal BVI Yacht Club Commodore, Chris Haycraft, Race Coach Rob Lind and several other volunteers who provided on the water coaching which made it easier and enjoyable for the young learners. Green Fleet Sailors
Over the course of the races, Rhodes noted that there was growth in the young sailors’ development, especially after getting tips from the race team. “They started off quite nervous, not really sure what was expected of them and by the end, there was great improvement in their sailing ability,” Rhodes noted. “The weather was good for them down in Sea Cows Bay where the seas were not so rough so we didn’t have too many problems with them capsizing, just a couple.” Several sailors including the likes of Alec Anderson and Jason Putley have come up through the ranks from sailing in the Green Fleet. Current sailors Thad Lettsome and Rayne Duff among others are still racing in the Optimist Class. From the Green Fleet, sailors moved up to White 10 and Under Blue 11-12 and Red 13-15, Want to get your child involved in sailing activities?
