One-Hit Wonders Don’t miss a great night out with the “Piano Man” himself, Henry Haid and his band The Sun Kings who will be performing at Myett’s from Thursday, 8th to Monday, 12th January. Casting off on their annual island tour, they are back with a brand new tour and a new sound, so be sure to check them out. Henry Haid is best known for portraying the lead role as Billy Joel, the “Piano Man” in the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Movin’ Out and after the production ended at the end of 2005, he started his own Billy Joel Tribute band, Glass Houses which enjoyed a hugely successful run in Florida. Since then, Henry has worked with his band, performing in St Thomas since the ‘80s until in 2007 they added Tortola and St Croix to their annual Virgin Islands tour where they love entertaining the crowds by playing songs that everyone knows and loves. Henry Haid and the Sun Kings pride themselves in their wide selection of “Tribute” music that is entertaining and fun for everyone. The talent and professionalism of these musicians, as well as their enthusiasm, is contagious, and sure to give everyone a great night out. “Every year I try to have a different theme, and the theme for this year’s tour is One-Hit

Wonders,” said Haid and the group has prepared almost fifty songs that listeners will instantly know. Think, Jigsaw’s Sky High and Mungo Jerry’s In the Summertime and you get a flavor of the type of music the band plays. In addition to the covers, The Sun Kings will be including one or two classic rock songs each night from their album, Our Time, which was released in 2012. Henry Haid and the Sun Kings will be performing nightly at Myett’s from the 8th to 12th January, so if you are looking for a fun evening where you can sing along to the tunes, then book your table early to avoid disappointment on 495-9649.

Julie Andrews Starts A New, and Big, Year The sound of music will be especially meaningful to Julie Andrews in 2015. The much-beloved Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winner will start the new year as she typically has in recent times, serving for the sixth time as host of PBS’ annual Great Performances telecast of From Vienna: The New Year’s Celebration 2015 Thursday, Jan. 1 (check local listings). As Andrews introduces segments from throughout Austria’s capital, Zubin Mehta will be the Vienna Philharmonic’s fifth-time holiday conductor in a traditional program of Strauss works at the Musikverein. Also featured will be the Vienna State Ballet, performing a polka and a waltz at the city’s Ringstrasse. “I’ve never personally met Maestro Mehta,” Andrews says, “but this time, I hope I do! I certainly will be watching him conduct the music. I do love what he does, and he’s very charismatic, too.” Mehta is the former music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, whose board of directors includes Andrews. The New Year’s show will keep Andrews on the move, starting with a trip up the Danube River, and she acknowledges she has “quite a number of locations to get to. I learn a lot doing these wonderful

shows, I really do. It’s always a revelation how much there is to see, all the homes and palaces, and it’s just glorious there anyway. One of my locations will be looking out over the town hall, which will be completely lit.” The new year also will mark a major anniversary — the 50th — for one of Andrews’ most enduring movies, The Sound of Music. She also was back in Austria recently with Christopher Plummer, who played Captain von Trapp to her Maria, to record new material for a forthcoming homevideo rerelease of the film. Andrews spent a good part of 2014 honoring the 50th anniversary of another of her screen classics, the Disney-produced Mary Poppins, but she believes that “wasn’t as big as I think ‘The Sound of Music’ is going to be. We’ve added another 40 minutes to an hour to the documentary on the making of it, and we went a lot of places for it, which was amazing. The ‘kids’ were not there; they’re doing separate things, but we’re all getting together at some point.” And now, Andrews notes, “I’m turning around and going back to Vienna. And I’m not unhappy about any of it.”

George Clooney Gets More Golden Globes Love Before there were ER and Gravity for George Clooney, there were Baby Talk and Return of the Killer Tomatoes! Every performer’s work has to start somewhere, even one who eventually gets the career-honoring Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Clooney becomes the latest recipient when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return to host The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards as NBC televises the annual event Sunday, Jan. 11, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A winner of three competitive Golden Globes — for the movies O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Syriana (which also brought him an Oscar) and The Descendants — Clooney follows such other DeMille honorees of recent years as Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Clooney started out on sitcoms and guest slots on shows such as Murder She Wrote. Two series runs as police detectives — on Bodies of Evidence and, more notably, Sisters — built Clooney’s television appeal to the point where he was hired as skilled but roguish Dr. Doug Ross on NBC’s ER, the credit that cemented his stardom. His movie work during his run on that show, including the critically acclaimed Out of Sight, gave him a base to move almost totally into films with The Perfect Storm and Ocean’s Eleven among other titles. As he’s continued his acting, as well as producing (Argo) and directing (Good Night, and Good Luck.), Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

Clooney has gained additional renown as a true citizen of the world. He has undertaken such social causes as global peacekeeping and humanitarian relief, encompassing his efforts on behalf of the United Nations. Another aspect of Clooney’s presence at this year’s Golden Globes is the first substantial spotlight it’s likely to place on someone else ... his new wife. It’s hard to think that lawyer Amal Alamuddin, recently named by Barbara Walters as the “Most Fascinating Person” of 2014, won’t be at Clooney’s side on such a big night for him. She’s generally been seen only in photos or at a distance since becoming Mrs. Clooney, but the Golden Globes should change that.

Dusty Treasures It all started when I decided to turn out the drawer under the TV cabinet where I store entertainment related paraphernalia. “What’s that,” you might well ask? Well, there are chargers for cell phones and recording devices that I no longer own - or at least, I think I no longer own. But what if I throw the charger away and then the device shows up? Better keep it just in case. Or that’s how I used to think. The new philosophy is that if the device shows up and there’s no charger, I toss the device.

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution. See next weeks Limin’ Times issue for solution.
