Taurus Riley and Much More at Easter Fest Get the kids out at 1pm for the Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day. Sponsored by the Valley Sound Lions Club, it will be held at the Vigin Gorda Yacht Harbour Grove. Hosted by John B, a Calypso Competition is next, along with more DJ music and live bands. Get up early, or just stay up late, on Monday April 6th for the Rise and Shine Tramp which will begin at 4am accompanied by Stylee Band from the USVI. Camo Style, the tramp route takes revelers from the HLSCC Virgin Gorda campus to the Recreation Grounds. In a spectacle of colorful costumes, festive floats and pulsating music, the Grand Parade, starting at 12pm promises to be a highlight. Post parade, return to the Village and enjoy the sounds of DJ Smasher, Prime Time, OMG, It’s A Secret Band and Hardcore Band. According to Festival Committee member, Jerrell George, there are even “more surprises” in store at this 48th annual event. Whether on Virgin Gorda, Tortola, or further afield, the VG Easter Festival is the place to be this weekend.
For those who like a good party – VG style – don’t miss the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival, which promises a weekend full of fun and surprises. The weekendlong fete starts at 10am Saturday, April 4th with a Fungi Fest and Food Fair at Spanish Town Market Square. The official launch, though, is at 7pm when The Hon Ralph T. O’Neal Festiville opens featuring a great lineup of entertainment including Leon and the Hot Shots, DJ Ah Milli Soundz, Final Faze and Showtime, among others. And don’t miss special guest star Taurus Riley who will bring his star power to the Festiville stage that night. The JamaicanAmerican reggae artist is going to pull out all the stops to make this one great show. Easter Sunday starts with a splash when the popular Wet Fete gets underway at 11am at the St Thomas Bay Jetty. An Easter basket of activities includes a water trampoline, kayaks, paddle boards, a wet t-shirt contest, RC boat races and much more! The music will continue throughout the day with DJ Smasher, Rated Mass, NJAR and the Venomous Poizon Band from the USVI.

The Regional Competition Cycle With the Softball team returning to the Territory after competing in the English Speaking Caribbean Countries Softball Championships in the Bahamas and claiming a bronze medal, and the Football team returned from Dominica after playing both legs of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying matches there – where they lost 3-2 and played to a 0-0 tie on Sunday – the regional competition cycle continues this weekend in St. Kitts at the Carifta Games Track and field Championships and next week in Barbados, with the Carifta Games Swimming Championships. Swimming made history last year when Elinah Phillip earned the Territory’s first medals in the competition – including a 50m Butterfly gold – as she completed a four for four race medal haul with additional silver and bronze medals in Aruba. Swimming debuted in the championships in 2012. Coupled with four bronze medals in track and field, it was the first time two sports had pulled off the feat in regional competitions. They will go at it again starting on Friday when the 44th edition of the track and field event kicks off in St. Kitts-Nevis and ends on Monday. Some 13 athletes in what has to be considered one of the strongest – if not the strongest teams ever assembled for Carifta – which doesn’t include any U18 Male athletes for the first time in years, its lies in the U20 division with 11 athletes, eight of them female. Additionally, 11 of the 13 athletes have recorded a personal best performance this season with eight of the marks being a national record. Athletes comprising the team with their season’s bests are; U18 Girls: L’Tisha Fahie: 100/200m: 12.01/25.19. Arianna Hayde, Long Jump, Javelin Throw: 5.42m/39.59m and Kala Penn, Long Jump, Triple Jump: 5.58/11.47m. U20 Girls: Tarikah Moses, 800m, 2:12.46. Tynelle Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

Gumbs, Javelin Throw, Discus Throw and Shot Put: 36.95/42.16/12.98. Treivia Gumbs: Shot Put and Discus Throw, 14.59/37.77m. Nelda Huggins, 100/200m: 11.85/24.95 seconds. Taylor Hill, 100/200m: 12.02/24.38 seconds. Jonel Lacey: 400m Hurdles 1:02:61. Deya Erickson: 100m Hurdles, 14.09 seconds. Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner, 400m Hurdles 1:04.71. U20 Boys: Akeem Bradshaw: Long Jump/Triple Jump: 7.25/14.78m and Kyron McMaster: 400m Hurdles 51.83 seconds. Four athletes who have competed at the Carifta Games before – two of them with individual medals – will be debuting in five different events. Moses, a 2013 U17 Girls 400m silver medalist who missed the event last year because of injuries, will contest the 800m. Warner – who won U17 Girls 800m bronze medals in 2012 and 2013 but missed the podium last year – will see action in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles along with Jonel Lacey, who ran the 100, 200m and 300m Hurdles before, but wasn’t on last year’s squad. It also marks the first time that the BVI will field female 400m Hurdlers. Arianna Hayde, at 15 the team’s youngest member who established a National Jr. Record in making her Heptathlon debut last year, will compete in the Long Jump and Javelin Throw. 6

By Arlena Smith
Empire Empire is a modern day King Lear story of a powerful music mogul named Lucious Lyon, (Terrence Howard) and his desire to find an heir to his company after recent news that he has ALS. The series which has a heavy hip-hop and Shakespearean influence arises from the story of King Lear who, before dividing up his kingdom, put his three daughters through a series of tests. Well, in this case, Lyon’s three sons – Hakeem, Jamal, and Andre, replaces those daughters. Their father literally sits them down and tells them to prove their worth if they want to have a shot at taking the throne. Each brother has his own strength and weakness in terms of having what it takes to become a leader. Lucious’ youngest son Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) is his favorite, though perhaps not the wisest of the three boys. Hakeem screams laziness, but is also a talented aspiring rapper who could do great things if he just had the proper motivation. He does a solid job of portraying the dysfunctional child, as his mother and father fight for control of his future. The middle child Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is perhaps the most interesting of the bunch and in my opinion the most talented. Jamal is a singer-songwriter and is destined to take Empire to new heights, but Luciou’s biggest hang up with Jamal is that he is gay. Throughout the season, we are shown flashbacks of Jamal as a young boy trying on his mother’s shoes and clothes, only to have his father embarrassingly drag his outside and throw him in a garbage can. Jamal has actively been seeking his father’s love and acceptance his entire life and hopes that if he can show him he can run Empire then he can look at him as his son and not look down on him because his is gay. Andre (Trai Byers) is the eldest and most publicly respected. He is highly educated, but unlike his two Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
younger siblings, he has no musical talent. His father would like the company to be run by an entertainer and not a businessman even though Andre works at and knows all aspects of Empire business. Andre may not have the musical talents, but his brilliance is equally matched by his ambition to secure his place at the top. While Academy-Award nominee Terrence Howard delivers a solid performance as Lucious, it is Taraji P. Henson that delivers the standout performance as Cookie Lyon. Her presence is captivating every time she’s on screen. In the very first episode we see Cookie leaving prison after doing 17 years. In those 17 years she has missed her sons growing up, Lucious divorced her when she was still in prison and the small company she contributed to financially has amassed into an “Empire” beyond anything she could have dreamt of and now she’s back and wants her piece of the pie. Empire is one of those rare shows that can scream in your face and get away with it. Producers Lee Daniels and Danny Strong are credited in this, but without terrific performances from the majority of the ensemble, none of it would work. For now, this series looks like a winner, but can it keep its ferocious pace up before it runs out of steam? We’ll have to keep watching to see what happens next. 14

Ask Koren
Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!
Rules for Koren Online Dating Ask So you have searched high and low in Tortola and you are still not finding that special someone; you have done all the things your friends suggested – smiling more, doing your best to appear warm and approachable, lost that 5 pounds and been more socially active and yet, to your complete and utter frustration, nothing. So as a last resort, you have decided to navigate the uncertain waters of internet dating. Here are some simple reminders to make the process easier: 1. Be genuine. Don’t try to portray yourself as someone that you are not because when you meet the person, they will see who you truly are. You want someone to be attracted to the real you. Use current photos and give factual information. 2. Be careful with your personal information. Do not put your telephone number or full name initially. Only share that information when you feel comfortable with the person. 3. Be as selective as you would be in person. Desperation is not cute. Not everyone is the one for you, so if someone is looking for a casual hook-up and that’s not what you want, don’t settle. Look for someone who has similar interests as you and who wants the same type of relationship. 4. Don’t be too hung up on looks. One lady told me she browses the pictures and if she is not impressed, she doesn’t even read the profile. Yes, looks do matter but looks can change; the personality of the person is in my opinion, more important 5. Put some substance into your conversation. Do you just meet someone in person and just say “hi” and then walk away and then the next time you say “how are you” and walk away? No, you don’t. So after
your initial hi’s, ask a question that shows that you are interested in getting to know the person. 6. Sell yourself well. I know we all want to believe that our dazzling smile and the sea in the background is enough to capture our prince or princess charming, but remember you want someone who is not superficial – so find unique ways of saying who you are and why you have the potential to be the guy or girl of their dreams. 7. Ignore the naysayers. Yes, some of your friends will scoff at you and tell you they will never try online dating, but that’s okay. I’m sure there are many things they do, that you yourself wouldn’t dream of. Nothing is wrong with being modern and creative. It’s your life and you are responsible for your own happiness. Even if you don’t meet the love of your life, perhaps you will make some great friends. It’s nice that you have an open mind and you are willing to try new things. Manage your expectations - like everything else, it will require time and effort. You have nothing to lose and the possibility of much to gain. Enjoy your search for love!

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution. See next weeks Limin’ Times issue for solution. 19
