Ask Koren

Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!

Did I Give Him An STI?

Ask Koren

Dear Koren, About a month ago I visited the doctor and he told me I had an STI so I took the one week medication and made excuses to not be with my boyfriend. I waited longer than the week to go with him. Now he is having some symptoms and I’m wondering if he went with someone else and got an STI or if mine did not go away and he got it from me which would be strange because my symptoms stopped. I never discussed this with him and I’m so nervous because he will need meds but suppose I suggest he go to the doctor and he thinks he got it from me. What should I do? –Confused

first and I think in some rare cases infections could come from nonsexual contact. So please don’t start attacking him about who he was with. If either of you are going outside of the relationship, then that is a very dangerous game that is risky to both your health, and the wellbeing of the relationship. You then have to decide if you still want to be together and what are the parameters of the relationship going forward. I understand you are nervous but approach this calmly; you also have to do some introspection and ask why didn’t you tell him in the first place? What are you afraid of and did you act in a fair manner? Discuss with him the need for both of you to be more careful and not do anything else together until the doctor has assured you both that you are clean. Then talk about being monogamous and having safe sex to prevent further problems. No one should be exposed to an unhealthy situation which could be life-threatening, not even in the name of love. Going forward, try to remember that honesty and communication are very important to a relationship as they would help you to avoid these kinds of problems.

Dear Confused, The first priority here is getting your boyfriend the medical help he needs because an infection that is not attended to can cause long-term problems. So I would suggest you accompany him or encourage him to go to the doctor; what should have happened is that he should have been on medication while you were taking yours. Once that is out of the way, then you have the harder part that you are dreading; the conversation about who gave the STI to whom if you are both supposed to be monogamous. It’s not fair to automatically assume he cheated. I don’t know how long you have been together, but maybe the infection was in your system before you started being with him, hence the reason you saw it

Tortola Torture: ‘It’s Meant to Hurt’ Creating a mental image as Richard Morgan described the KRyS Global Tortola Torture – a 31.9 mile Ultra Marathon over rugged terrain amid high humidity—that organizers promise to be “tougher than them all,” I was exhausted. Morgan’s “idea’ has blossomed into an event with 60 participants – 20 individuals, ten 3-persons relay and four 2 person relays – who will climb a combined 5,928ft 5” of ascent with the steepest climb being 1007 ft 2” leaving Brewers Bay . “We’ve come up with the Tortola Torture, which is the BVI’s first Ultra Marathon. It’s an entry level 50km event that will be starting in town and finishing in Trellis Bay with a few hills along the way,” surmised event coordinator Morgan of Saturday’s event. “The first ten miles will be flat from town to the West End Ferry Terminal, then runners will begin facing the hills starting at the entrance to Steel Point.” The race, which has attracted participants from as far as Hong Kong and as close as the U.S. Virgin Islands, will circumnavigate Tortola, taking in the steepest climbs out of Cane Garden Bay and Brewers Bay, traversing to the Balsam Ghut Prison with a final loop around Little Mountain on Beef Island before the Trellis Bay finish. “An amazing volume of people have expressed an interest,” Morgan said. “I initially thought we’d have 20 people.” The race starts at 5am from the Tortola Sports Club and there will be compulsory water that runners will have to carry as there will only be three water stops along the route. “It’s not like the BVI Sunrise Half Marathon where there are water stops every few miles,” Morgan noted. “This is a challenge. It’s meant to

make you think about it and it’s meant to hurt – that’s why it’s called a torture – it’s not meant to be easy. This is going to be hard. We need something different. St. John has the 8 Tuff Miles – but its only 8 miles. St. Croix has an Ultra Marathon at the end of January and they include the Beast in their race – but this is harder.” Morgan said there’s more altitude gain during this race than any other in the Virgin Islands and runners will have to contend with heat and humidity. He added that the feeling of finishing this event will be up there with the greatest challenges. A series of training runs that split the course into sections and running different sections each week began in November to familiarize persons with the course. “There are obviously going to be bits of the course that are much, much harder that other bits,” Morgan pointed out. “From town to West End is flat, then suddenly, you’re into the hills. Getting out of Cane Garden Bay and Brewers Bay is going to be absolutely brutal. I live in Cane Garden Bay. Running out of Cane Garden Bay when you get to the top, you’re absolutely broken and at that point you still have 15-20 miles to go, so it’s going to be hard.” 11

Mud There is a bit of Mark Twain’s tale, Huckleberry

Finn, in this movie that takes place around the Mississippi River and is an ode to a disappearing way of life Two teenage boys navigate a river in a small boat coming ashore on an uninhabited island. Adventurers at heart, they set out to explore this new land, and soon discover a boat stranded atop a tall tree, the remnants of a flood from years before. It is a wondrous sight and they stand transfixed, then just as most boys would, they clamber up the tree and declare the boat their own. But it is not theirs. It is inhabited by a drifter named Mud (Mathew McConaughey), who is both mysterious –

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution. See next weeks Limin’ Times issue for solution.
