Try to ignore gossip; it serves no useful purpose except to stir up trouble and breed strife and some people gossip because they are jealous or have nothing better to do. One person saying something does not make it true. What you should focus on is your marriage and the fact that it is a happy one. Your husband is the one you plan to be with forever, not his mother. I’m hoping that he chose you for all the right reasons and you will have a life of love together. If you really need the reassurance, then talk to him. He cannot control the gossipers, but he can make it clear that you are the woman he loves and wants to be with. If it turns out in the future that he had ulterior motives, then you can seek legal guidance to know what your options are for redress. You will also need support to get over the feelings of betrayal. Let us hope it does not come to that. Your time at home should be an enjoyable one to reconnect with your culture and to recuperate. Don’t waste time focusing on the wrong things. Enjoy your marriage and be thankful for what you have. Don’t let anyone steal your joy.
Dear Koren, I’m from the Caribbean and live in New York and met my husband when he came for Labour Day. We dated for over a year and we have been married for 2 years now. I thought all was well until I got 3-month disability leave from work and came home to spend some time. I was disappointed that his mom has not one picture of me in her house and she has the local in-laws. I’m also hearing some kind of gossip that he only married me for papers and his mom prefers his ex-girlfriend for him. Our marriage seems real to me, how do I know what’s the truth? –Distraught Wife Dear Wife, So counting back, I can see that you are with your husband for over 3 years and you do not seem to have any complaint about your relationship with him. Either he is where he wants to be or he is an actor of the highest quality. You shouldn’t bury your head in the sand, but based on what you have seen in his actions and behaviour, you did not have any reason to doubt him. Now you have come home and seen no pictures and heard gossip, you are suddenly feeling very insecure. If it is really important to you that she has your picture displayed, then you can ask her if she would like a picture of you and her son to put up; but it is her house, so she can choose what to put up or not. What is more important than the picture is how she treats you.

Let's Vote! With the upcoming election I began to think about our contribution in the election process and how voting is a responsibility of great importance. Most people often blame our government when they perceive something to be wrong in their society. Everyone should therefore express their agreement or disagreement with the government’s policies when the opportunity to do so is offered. Politics affects lots of everyday stuff such as where you live, the food you eat, your night out, travel, sports and even music! Politics sets hygiene standards for restaurants and take away and controls the use of additives, colourings and preservatives in food. Politics also affects licenses for music festivals, the prices of CDs and prevents your neighbors playing their music too loudly. Yes, politics even controls the planning and building of new roads and houses, keeping the streets clean, whether to maintain sporting facilities and which entertainments you can watch for free on TV. Consider the future of the family and yourself before making the decision to not vote. Don’t let the accidental winds of neglect steer which direction your country sails. Citizens whom are not eligible to vote do not have to sit at the sidelines; you can encourage, educate and assist those that are. An expression I have often-heard is that people get the kind of government they deserve. This implies that a broad-based, active participation by the people entitled to vote on voting day is the best guarantee of electing a government truly representative of the governed. Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
Many people think their vote does not count or that they are too busy – family, work and other life events "get in the way" of voting. Voting at the polls is a process that people can fear or feel intimidated by. Lack of interest is probably the most common reason for not voting. People often do not vote because they do not like the bickering and fighting or mud slinging between candidates. Some people say they do not vote, because the "lines are too long". While others say that they cannot even get to the polling place to vote. Perhaps you don’t feel that you have a strong enough opinion and think your vote will not make a big difference in who gets elected. I'm sure there are many more excuses to furnish a decision to not vote. Make sure you're registered to vote! On Election Day get to the polling station. The polling station is usually a nearby school or local hall/center near to where you live. 10

You Asked...We Answered Q: One of my favorite new shows of the past season was “Crisis.” I was told we would be seeing the final two episodes on June 21, but an old movie was shown instead. Obviously, that irritates me. A: If it’s any comfort, you’re not the only one irritated. We’ve received a number of queries from viewers in your area about this. NBC did air those episodes of the Gillian Anderson-starring series that night, so the pre-emption with the movie was made on the local level. Admittedly, Crisis wasn’t a ratings success — the reason it got only one season — but for those who did follow it, we can’t disagree that it would have been nice to have access to the finale. If you haven’t done so already, take a look at the On Demand channels if your cable company offers them. The one that includes NBC programming should have at least the last several Crisis episodes. Q: I was surprised to hear that Diane Sawyer is leaving “ABC World News.” It doesn’t seem like she’s been the anchor of it all that long. When did she start? A: She succeeded Charles Gibson on the program on Dec. 21, 2009 ... thus getting a “soft launch” in the job, since she was expected to start that January. When David Muir becomes her successor Sept. 2, she’ll move into a new ABC News unit covering “big issues,” per the network. Q: It’s nice to see Ally Walker back on television in Taxi Brooklyn.” What else has she done since Profiler? A: She’s actually had a couple of other series,
HBO’s “Tell Me You Love Me” and Lifetime’s “The Protector.” However, she’s also spent a lot of the inbetween time in her real-life role as mom; she has three children with husband John Landgraf, who’s the president of FX Networks and the man who decided to bring viewers such series as American Horror Story, The Americans, Justified and Louie. Q: If CBS is going to have football on Thursdays this fall, when will The Big Bang Theory be on? A: Fans of Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and the gang won’t be without them ... that show is such a major element of the CBS lineup, the network would never let that happen. For the early weeks of the new season, The Big Bang Theory will return to Mondays while the NFL games air on Thursdays. Then on Oct. 30, Big Bang will move back to Thursday and be joined there by the season premieres of The Millers, Two and a Half Men and Elementary, along with the debut of the sitcom The McCarthys. Q: I was surprised to see George Stephanopoulos give the clues in a Jeopardy! category recently. Did he get paid for that? A: Undoubtedly — but since all the questions in the category were about him, he might not have minded doing it even without pay. It’s interesting to note that confidentiality agreements had to be signed by everyone who was present for that taping, so that word of his appearance wouldn’t leak out early. 11

Big Hero 6 Big Hero 6 transports us to the world of San Fransokyo, an east-meets-west futuristic city where young Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) and his big brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) spend their days and nights inventing advanced robotics. However, where Tadashi works on robots that can help better the world, Hiro squanders his gift hustling for cash in the underground robot fighting circuit. That changes when Tadashi finally manages to inspire Hiro towards a greater goal of attending the Robotics University where he and his four best friends create brilliant new tech designs in their nerd lab think-tank. Hiro’s has to do a presentation before he is accepted to the university and his invention of mentally controlled micro-robots turns out to be a massive hit. But before they could celebrate his success, tragedy strikes and Tadashi dies in the crossfire. With Tadashi gone, Hiro’s life takes a downward spiral, he never leaves his room, he ignores his acceptance to attend the Robotics University, and has cut all communication with his friends. That is until he meets Baymax (Scott Adsit), the inflatable health care robot his brother once created as a companion for him. While attempting to help Hiro overcome his emotional pain, Baymax stumbles onto the plot of a mys-

terious man in a mask, who seems to have stolen Hiro’s micro-bot technology. With revenge on his mind Hiro convinces Baymax – whom he made a few upgrades too and his friends – the think-tank nerds into becoming tech-enhanced vigilantes. However, anger and pain quickly prove to be a bad recipe for justice, but when Hiro realizes this fact it seems too late, as he may be leading his new friends to their collective doom. In the end, Big Hero 6 is family fun – an action and adventure movie suited for any age. It combines Disney with Marvel and offers viewers a fresh journey and interesting characters to meet. Now playing at UPs cinema.

BVI Dinghy Championships Weekend After competing in as far away as South and North America, BVI sailors will compete at home on Saturday and Sunday in the BVI Dinghy Championships. The event, which starts at 11 am on Saturday and wraps up with an award ceremony on Sunday afternoon, gives the newest sailors their first opportunity to compete. Julie Deakin said 40 boats have preregistered and more were expected. She noted among those registered are the IC24 Class, which is more adult sailors. “We have Optimists in the Red, Blue and White fleet and we have 15 boats registered in the Green fleet – a lot of new upcoming sailors so that’s an excellent turnout – and we’ve got five in the Laser Fleet,” Rhodes pointed out. “We have final registration from 4:30-6:30 pm on Friday at Nanny Cay and then again from 9-110 am on Saturday morning.” The start of Saturday’s races, Rhodes noted, will be delayed until 11 am to accommodate some boats from St. Thomas that are unable to come over on Friday. “The first warning is at 11, sailing through till about 5 p.m. and then again on Sunday, first warning at 9 o’clock, off the water by about 1:30 so that we can get the results done and have the prize giving at Nanny Cay,” Rhodes said. “We have 12 boats coming from St. Thomas and about eight from St. Croix.” Sailors to watch includes Rayne Duff, as this is the third event in the Triple Crown – the first leg was in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands Optimist Dinghy Championships followed by the Cruzan Open in St. Croix – and Duff will be one of the few sailors to have competed in all three legs. “He’ll definitely be one to watch in this event,” Rhodes said. “St. Thomas’ Teddy Nicholosi is another

top sailor to look out for, then we’ve got some newer sailors in the Green Fleet. Ryan Lettsome did particularly well in St. Croix, winning the Green Fleet there – and he has only been sailing since June. The BVI Dinghy Championships are among the final tune up for the North American Optimists Championships. Typically, because of their small size, over the last several years, BVI and USVI sailors have been training together on weekends. St. Thomas’ coach Agustin “Argy” Resano said that since St. Thomas and BVI sailors have a smaller fleet the BVI Dinghy Championships that had 30 entries last year and the International Optimist Regatta in St. Thomas with over 80 was good preparation for the sailors. “Usually, you get from 70-90 boats on the starting line when you go overseas,” he noted. “A starting line with 70 boats is a different game than one with 20 boats. Placement at the starting line, strategy and tactics are really very important and we try to train for the big fleet because that’s when some kids step up and others get intimidated with the bigger fleet and their results are not the same as in smaller fleets.” 13

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution. See next weeks Limin’ Times issue for solution.
