I also want the public to come out and support the booths, as there will be doctors and specialist on hand to answer any questions you may have. We would also like to encourage parents to bring their kids out for the testing and there will be lots of giveaways and prizes.” For more info you can contact Simone at 340 7879.

Can I Get Past Her Past
Ask Koren
Dear Koren, I was out with my girlfriend and coming back from the bathroom I notice this older white guy hugging her and she looked nervous and kept looking back. After he left, I asked about it and after a night of grilling and much frustration, she told me that a few years ago before she met me she was broke and a taxi guy who she knew took her to the man. Right now, I don’t know what to do. She is begging me to stay with her and saying that was a one-time thing before we met. She forgave me for cheating on her last year, so she probably deserves a chance too, but this is rough. I just can’t get it out of my mind. How can you help me? –Boyfriend
might have to stay single. We ask and expect people to accept us as we are and to forgive us of our transgressions, so it would be nice if we can do the same for others. If you can’t get past it, no one can beat you up for that because you know your limits. What is important even if you have to walk away, is that you do not leave any parting words to belittle or condemn her. Let her know that you can’t come to terms with it. Don’t blame her for your feelings….take ownership for it. If you decide to stay, it will take some time to work through this issue and bringing it up daily will not help. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, but it means letting go. Is there enough positive in the relationship and your connection to each other that can help you to go on? Draw on the relationship strengths and the idea that unconditional love means “I love you no matter what.” None of us are perfect and two imperfect persons can with acceptance and love, build a solid relationship. If you can process this obstacle and get past it, I’m sure this can strengthen you as a couple and there are very few things you would not be able to overcome.
Dear Boyfriend, I can almost feel the agony you are going through as this is indeed a rough situation. After a discovery like this, I can imagine the questions rolling through your mind, “will she do it again?” “would she have told me if I didn’t see them together?” “who else knows?” “what else is she hiding?” and you torture yourself with the and whys and woulds and whos. The plain truth is that every one of us has done things we are not proud of and we regret, so the chances of you finding a girlfriend who has never done something you would not approve of is very slim. This means, that we have to learn to accept people with their baggage. If you don’t want to, then you

Spice up your life I often marvel at the vast array of spices, seasonings and local produce that a friend of mine uses when she cooks dinner, which luckily for me is quite often. The explosion of flavors can really turn an everyday dish into a true taste of the Caribbean and many of these products are grown right here in the BVI. One of the main products that is grown here are the colorful and tasty peppers that can vary from the fairly mild to the extremely hot. The king of peppers is the Scotch Bonnet – and it is their hot and savory flavoring that makes hot pepper sauces so popular. Scotch Bonnets or “bonnies” as they are locally known are a staple in most West Indian kitchens and are reputed to be one of the world’s hottest peppers. Green bell peppers are also grown here, as well as seasoning peppers, which also come in a rainbow of colors and are the main ingredient in the flavored pepper sauces, which give a great flavor to fish and chicken dishes. Peppers are power packed with Vitamin C, B6, beta-carotene, potassium and contain lots of fiber and have many health benefits such as being an effective pain reliever for arthritis, reducing risk of heart attacks and Type 2 Diabetes. Arona Forbes, Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer for the Department of Agriculture, who makes a variety of products using locally grown produce explains, “The Scotch bonnet and Caribbean red peppers are used to make the ever popular hot pepper sauces which are blended to give a smooth texture. The flavored pepper sauces, are a little milder and are not blended so have a chunkier texture.” Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide
She adds that the sauces can be used on all kinds of foods from fish and salad, to rotis chicken and curries. In addition to hot sauces, Arona also uses natural seasonings and spices for her dried collection (All Purpose Seasoning, Garlic Salt and BVI Blend) and last but not least she also makes natural oils and flavored oils to add to salads and other food. Here in the BVI, locally grown spices and produce includes thyme, chives, parsley, celery, green onion or “chibble,” scallions, cinnamon sticks and dried sorrell. The Department of Agriculture gives a helping hand to local farmers by supplying them with seedlings and then assisting them to market their products to local supermarkets and stores. Visitors and residents alike can also visit the small stalls that set up near the roundabout each Friday in Road Town where fresh spices can be bought in pots, and thyme and scallions can be bought in bundles. So support the local farmers and have fun finding the freshest possible ingredients to spice up your food and your life! 6

You Asked...We Answered Q: When will Jennifer Love Hewitt be seen on Criminal Minds? A: She’s expected to make her debut in the 10thseason premiere of the CBS series on Oct. 1. In essence the replacement for Jeanne Tripplehorn — who was the replacement for Paget Brewster, who was the replacement for Lola Glaudini — Hewitt will play Kate Callahan, an experienced undercover agent whose successful track record lands her a spot in the Behavioral Analysis Unit. Q: I’m intrigued that Allison Williams has been cast in Peter Pan. Can she sing? A: Oh, yes. Those who watch her on HBO’s Girls can confirm that she’s turned musical there on occasion, and she also can be seen crooning in videos on the Internet. On the day her casting in the live production — which NBC will televise in December — was announced, dad Brian Williams confirmed on NBC Nightly News that Allison has been “rehearsing this role since the age of three.” Q: Heartsounds, a TV movie with James Garner, was shown in 1984. Is it available on DVD? A: For all of the films starring the recently deceased Garner that are on disc and tape, that one — also starring Mary Tyler Moore — has not had an official home-video release. If you see copies for sale listed on the Internet, be aware that there’s no guar-
antee of the quality, since the source is unknown. It could have just been recorded off a television channel.
Q: I love watching Leverage. What has happened to the cast? A: As you probably know, they’ve gone their separate ways, since what you’re seeing now are repeats of the TNT series that ended in 2012. Timothy Hutton (alias team leader Nathan on Leverage) actually has another series lined up: ABC’s American Crime, from Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley and expected to debut midseason. Christian Kane (Eliot) also is going back to series work, and again for TNT, since he’ll be in the forthcoming show The Librarians (inspired by Noah Wyle’s “Librarian” adventure movies). Gina Bellman (Sophie) made a guest appearance on BBC America’s Ripper Street. Beth Riesgraf (Parker) turned up on such shows as Criminal Minds and The Mentalist, and she also had an Internet series titled “Caper.” And Aldis Hodge (Alec) had a guest role in that show, but after co-starring with Bruce Willis in A Good Day to Die Hard and popping up in an episode of The Walking Dead, he’s been seen more steadily lately as Jordan on AMC’s Turn. 13

Women Making BVI Basketball History History will be made on Monday, June 8 – not just elections history – but, the first Women’s team that will ever represent the Territory in regional basketball competition, will face Guyana at 9 p.m., in the 22nd CBC Women’s Championships at the Multipurpose Sports Complex. With no league to pull players from, head Coach Brian “Bash” Brewley said the team has been cut from 25-30 players who showed interest down to 15, noting it has been a difficult task. “It’s a challenge, but they are excited and the coaches are excited,” he said. “They came with an open mind to learn and that’s the beauty about it.” When they began putting the squad together 18 players turned out on the first day Brewley noted. Since then, they have gone through 25-30 girls. “Some came and after they saw the workout, they quit,” he explained. “We are down to 15 now and won’t have the final 12 until the technical meeting, but, we will hold on to 14 just in case of injuries or somebody can’t make it.” Among the 15 are two players from Virgin Gorda, two collegians and several high school players. Brewley said they are trying to get the best in the country. The Virgin Gorda players as well of some others making the cut came up playing through the boys. The High School players have played in tournaments in St. Thomas, and they have pulled the best players from the lot. “We never had a girl’s league before, but these are the girls that have the love for the game and have developed playing between the boys,” Brewley pointed out. “We had to start from scratch teaching them the fundamentals and teaching them how to play defense, but they are moving on pretty well. In last year’s tournament held here, there were about two Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

scrap teams. If they come back with those kind of teams, I think we might be able to beat them. However, the seasoned teams, the Bahamas, Jamaica – those who have women’s programs set in place – we’re not going to beat them. We are trying to be competitive for the first time out.” With the tournament being held here and the Territory fielding women for the first time Brewley said this is the ice breaker for putting a women’s league in place. There are lots of young girls starting to love the sport he added which will be a plus. “This team is also a young team,” he pointed out. “We are going to have a hand on them year round because after the tournament, we’re not going to stop. We are going to continue. I’m giving 2-3 years and we should be moving from the bottom four to the top four.” The final team will be selected from: Joy Victor, Tamara Phillips, Tafara Phillips, Daeria Malone, Shauliqua Malone, Ebony Fahie, Joyann Thomas, Dominique Wattley, Brianna Brewley, Gertrude Thomas, Michelle Smith, Makayla Pickering, Tylia Nibbs, Keithrece Smith and Tiffany Jennings. Coaches: Morris Wattley, Ronnie “Gola” Simmonds and Brian “Bash” Brewley. 14

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution. See next weeks Limin’ Times issue for solution.
