Age of Adaline due to this memory, she then avoids Ellis’ calls and his attempts to contact her. After looking through old photographs, she has a change of heart; she is lonely so goes to Ellis’ work to apologize, so when he asks her to attend his parents 40th anniversary party, she says yes. When they arrive, she is greeted by Ellis’ father, William Jones (Harrison Ford) who immediately calls her Adaline. She replies that that was her mother’s name – he looks very shaken and says they were very close. The next day, Adaline gets another flashback showing that she and William first met in England before returning to the US together, and it was during this, that she realizes who gave her the engagement ring. Later, Adaline is talking to William when he notices a scar on her left hand, a scar that he recognizes which leads to further revelations about their past. Distraught, she runs back to the house, writes a note to Ellis, grabs his car keys and drives away leaving Ellis confused but William does not explain. What comes next is magical and a definite spoiler, so I am not going to give it away, enough to say that this is a great easy watching Sunday afternoon movie with an interesting plot, so put your feet up and enjoy.
After an accident in 1937, Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) suffers a car accident during a lightning storm, making her a widow and stuck at 29 forever. At first it is not noticeable, and she never allows herself to get close to anyone who might reveal her secret. However, after a series of close calls revealing her to be in her late 40s, she decides that she will spend her life running away with a new look and identity every decade. Back to present day, it’s New Year’s Eve and Adaline is mingling with old friends at a party, when a charismatic philanthropist, Ellis Jones (Michael Huisman) walks into the room. At midnight, she decides to leave and walks to the elevator, but before it closes, Ellis pushes in and tries to ask her out but she declines. The next day at work, her co-workers mention that a generous benefactor is coming by to donate some books, and it is Ellis. He brings books with flowers in the titles, alluding to their conversation in the elevator. He won’t take no for an answer, so she agrees to a date. Their date goes well and after she leaves, Adaline is having flashbacks of an unknown man playing nervously with an engagement ring, and presumably

Dance Like No One’s Watching It’s that time of year once again for the annual BVI Children’s DanceFest hosted by BVI Dance School. I look forward to this event every year just to see the little ones who have worked so hard all year finally get to perform and show us that their hard work was not in vain. I attended the show last year and was delighted by all the performances. The tiny tots were a crowd favorite mainly because they are so cute in their little ballerina costumes. This year I am especially looking forward to seeing the hip-hop and ballet dance numbers as my step daughter has been working hard and is excited to hit the stage. The widely popular event showcases some of the BVI’s most talented young dancers featuring a variety of dance forms such as ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap dance and hip-hop. With more than 300 young performers set to perform with their dazzling and sparkly costumes it’s a show not to be missed. DanceFest not only features all classes of the BVI Dance School but other local dance groups as well.

A Marathon Softball Encounter It has been a historic week for BVI Women in team sports. The BVI debuted in the Caribbean Basketball Championships opener on Monday, by beating Guyana 64-61 – the first time the Territory has fielded a Women’s Basketball team!! Congratulations to coach Brian “Bash” Brewley, his coaches, staff, players and the BVI Basketball Federation, on this historic achievement that was easily overshadowed by Monday’s General Elections. Two days earlier, the Elmore Stoutt High School Lady Rams hosted the visiting Charlotte Amalie High School Lady Chicken Hawks in an Interscholastic Athletic Association League Softball Game at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds – a first. Saturday’s Marathon 12-hour day saw three slugfests, comebacks and a 25-12 blow out victory in the third game, as the Chicken Hawks clawed their way to the IAA League Softball title over the Lady Rams. “This was a challenge from the beginning for the championships between the two of us because we had the best records,” noted Chicken Hawks coach Laura Isaacs, who played with the Hawks in the BVI Softball Association league last year. “They were good games and could have gone either way. In the last game, everybody came out to play ball – they were tired, yes – but my girls wanted it more than Elmore Stoutt. We had errors they had errors. We had hits, they had hits, but we came up with some key plays. Left fielder Zaria Burkett, she really came through for us and Rhea Benjamin dug deep in the pitching. Even with all the walks, they pulled it out.” Rams coach Derwin Scatliffe said he was down to a bare nine after several of his players left – some with Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

headaches after a long day – and he had to insert players who don’t normally play. “I lost my pitcher, catcher, outfielder, a third baseman and another outfielder got hit on the knee – I just lost a lot of players and had to play with who were here,” he noted, adding that his team got comfortable in the second game when they had an 18-10 lead late in the game. “They got cocky and it came back and bit them in their behind. That’s all that happened. They thought that the game was over – they concentrated on other things instead of finishing the game.” Issacs was delighted with the victory. “It was a glorious occasion to beat Tortola in Tortola,” she said. “I wish we’ll have more games like this in the future because it’s a good challenge for both teams. I hope they learn that they have to have endurance and they have to stay together and they have to play together and if they can’t play together, they’ll never win. It was a great challenge for them because they have never done this before.” 12

The World’s Biggest Bully Ask Koren
as they come from a place of love. 3. Set boundaries. Say no when people are trying to force you along a path that you know is not right for you; set boundaries with how long you allow them in your personal space and ensure you maintain a certain degree of privacy in your own life. Sometimes we open our lives to everyone based on the kinds of things we put on facebook…it’s like we are saying “hey, come take a jab at me” 4. Stand up for what you believe in. No one but you knows your story and why you make the choices you did. Do not be swayed by the crowd because everyone will have a different reason for their belief and at the end of the day, you must feel satisfied that you acted from a place of honesty and integrity and you were true to yourself. Unfortunately many people have the mob mentality and join the crowd to point fingers, condemn and even laugh at other’s misfortune. It makes their lives seem better if they can look down on yours. Let them look, let them talk, let them condemn and while they are doing that, you are finding your purpose, doing what brings out the best in you and living your happy life.. a life where you learn not to live at the mercy of bullies, but live awesomely in spite of them.
If you think that those kids that teased you in secondary school because you were forced to wear sensible instead of fashionable shoes were bad, think again. If you think that co-worker who is always giving you a hard time, is the worst bully you have met, think again. The biggest bully you will encounter is society. While you might be able to answer an individual and stand up to him or her, when you have a group made up of several persons who consider themselves learned and experts on your situation, the media and other many others all feeling like they have the right to dictate how you think, what you should wear, who you should date and why something is wrong with you, that is a bully that few can stand up to and many crumble under the pressure and choose to conform. You make an error in judgement and you are tried in the court of public opinion and get beaten down. Society is made up of people and people will always be people, so if the bullying won’t stop, you have got to learn to live with it. How can you be your true, authentic self in spite of what society, the media and your criticizers think? 1. Be genuine. There is no need to fake anything or pretend to anyone because you will not be able to keep it up for too long. Being genuine makes you feel good because you behave in alignment with who you are. 2. Have your inner circle. Society has too many voices for you to listen to. If you have a small support group who you talk to share with and who care about you, their criticisms are likely to be more constructive
