West End Back2School Fair The West End Community Centre Committee is back for the third annual Back2School Fair at the Benjamin Romney Recreational Park, in West End. On Saturday, August 22nd the committee is inviting students residing in the West End area (Towers, Romney Park, Belmont Park, Frenchman’s Cay and West End) to this fun-filled family event from 1pm to 5pm. The Back2School event seeks to aid students from kinder garden to college with the necessary school supplies including backpacks, writing books, pens, pencils, crayons, rulers and much more. The day will include arts and crafts, face painting and refreshments and the BVI Elite Sky Dancers, Shooting Stars Steel Orchestra, and Purple Dragon will be on hand for a special performance. This year, the committee is bringing guest motivational speaker and TV star Larramie “Doc” Shaw an American actor, singer and rapper best known as Malik Payne for his role in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. At an early age Larramie’s grandparents noticed a special gift in him and nicknamed him Doc as they thought he was destined for great things in his life. Doc's dad then sparked a modeling career for him and he moved through the modeling indus-
try fast and began appearing in print ads for Atlanta Magazine, Parisian and Upton’s to name a few. In 1994, a car accident took his father's life, but Doc who was also in the car, survived the accident. After surviving such a loss, Doc had an overwhelming feeling he had survived for a higher purpose and wanted to continue his career. His career quickly took off and he became well known for his commercials with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, McDonalds and more, even landing his first movie role in Nobody Loves Me. His big break came when he landed the role of Malik Payne in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. In 2009 he was nominated for a NAACP Image Award and won the 2009 Youth Artist Award for Best Supporting Young Actor in a television series. His professional appearance and business attitude has earned him a reputation for speaking to others about his life experiences, growth and faith especially for events targeting the youth. So bring the kids out this Saturday and don’t miss your chance to meet this inspirational young speaker and grab the necessities for the up-coming school year. Registration begins at 11am. For more info contact Mr. Charles Benjamin 541-2056.

Marriage Not What I Expected
Ask Koren
Dear Koren, I have been married for just over a year and I regret it. I still love my husband but I feel trapped and resentful. I knew he had some bad habits before we got married but I never expected to be a house slave. All my time outside of work is spent cooking, cleaning or attending to him and this once self sufficient man has turned into a helpless baby who has forgotten how to make himself a simple tuna sandwich. What do I do? I'm constantly tired and this is not what I signed up for. – New Wife
your being the superwoman as the norm and anything less on your part is likely to result in his dissatisfaction and that will be even more frustrating for you. Consider also managing your time and tasks better by organizing yourself with a schedule. With no young children, cleaning once or twice a week should be enough. You and your husband should work as a team to ensure that the marriage relationship remains more important than housework and cleaning or arguing over who does what. When there is love and mutual respect, you both care about the other's happiness and comfort and that is always a priority. Self care is also an important part of married life because you cannot give what you don't have; if you are not comfortable and thriving and happy, you will be miserable, irritated and bitter. So talk to your husband and let him know that you need his help and cooperation as, he will benefit also, Streamline your tasks so you have more time for things you love and focus on strengthening your marital relationship and you both will be better off for it.
Dear New Wife, Clearly the honeymoon period is over and the reality of married life is setting in and the “for worse” aspect is clicking in. Some of these things should have been discussed before marriage but that ship has sailed; also, even if there were multiple discussions, people still do what they feel like after the fact. While there is the expectation that as the wife certain duties might be primarily yours, there is no law that says that he cannot help with some household duties and share the tasks. If he chooses not to help at all, then he has the option of paying for a housekeeper... in other words, either he dips his hands in the water or he dips it in the wallet, but dip he must. If you break him in badly and his expectations of your housewife duties are high, he will come to accept

You Asked & We Answered... Q: Is it known who will replace Tom Bergeron on “America’s Funniest Home Videos?” A: Not as of this writing, but there’s still some time before that decision needs to be made. Bergeron will start his final season on the ABC show in September, beginning a long victory lap for what will have been a 15-season run for him (and 25 seasons for the show overall). He’ll remain in the ABC family, though, continuing as host of Dancing With the Stars – which likely will keep going for a while. Q: Is Grace Van Pelt on “The Mentalist” the same actress who portrayed her originally? A: She is ... or was, we should say, since she’s no longer a regular on the CBS show. Amanda Righetti played the role from the premiere onward, but after Van Pelt was kidnapped and then rescued last season, she and husband Wayne Rigsby (played by Owain Yeoman) decided to leave law enforcement — and the series. Q: I enjoyed watching Steve McQueen in “Bullitt” on television recently. I’ve heard he did his own driv-

ing in the movie’s famous car chase. Is that true? A: He did in the close-up scenes that clearly show him at the wheel, but others were driving the Mustang in most long-range shots of the vehicle. An avid driver, McQueen wanted to do as much of the sequence as possible, but there were the insurance concerns that typically apply to a film’s star. Thanks to the masterful editing of the sequence, it’s virtually impossible to tell that it isn’t McQueen who’s literally in the driver’s seat at any given point of that classic 11minute scene. Q: I was pleased to see Donnie Wahlberg get a chance to direct “Blue Bloods” last season, Will he do so again next season? A: He will, and the fact that episode was one of the highest-rated in the CBS police drama’s history certainly didn’t hurt. We spoke with Wahlberg at the time it aired, and he already was talking about things he’d like to do in his next directing round on the show ... one of the foremost being to work more with Will Estes, alias Jamie Reagan to his Danny on the series.

Taking “Left Seat” in the Lynx I was recently invited to a drinks reception onboard the visiting the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA)
Lyme Bay which was visiting for three days as part of its duty as the Royal Navy’s Atlantic Patrol Task (North). On the evening of the drinks reception, I headed off with invite in hand and was a little excited as this was the first time I had visited such a vessel. Once onboard, I was surprised to find that many different branches of the military populated the ship, clearly there were the Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel, but there were also RAF Pilots, Marines and other memPhoto courtesy of GIS

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation The latest chapter in the spy franchise, Rogue Nation, feels just as fresh and exciting as the films that came before it, in particular Ghost Protocol one of my favorites in the MI series. In the fifth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise Rogue Nation veteran IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) immediately shows that this will be a fast-paced edge of your seat thriller. I mean, in the opening scene he is literally hanging out of an airplane. After the IMF was implicated in the attack on the Kremlin in Ghost Protocol, CIA chief Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) is determined the “Rogue” group whose successes at saving the world are short lived and pure luck, tries to disband the IMF and have the group dissolved into the CIA where he has control of its operations. This forces Hunt and his team to operate off the grid to try to prove the existence of a shadowy criminal organization known as the “Syndicate” an anti-IMF group led by the malicious Solomon Lane (Sean Harris), the latest villian in Hunt’s cat-andmouse game. Pursued by both the CIA and the “Syndicate,” Hunt must search for clues while trying to avoid capture. While perusing the illustrious group, he happens upon Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a disavowed

British agent who saved his life on two occasions and seems keen on helping him but may have dangerous ties to the “Syndicate.” He must decide whether or not he can trust her as she more than holds her own as a spy, and there’s also some genuine doubt as to exactly which side she’s on. Calling on the trusted members of his team, tech expert Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and former agent Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) they must globetrot from Vienna and Morocco to London in hopes of derailing the plans of the “Syndicate.” Hunt matches wits with the “Syndicate’s” leader in a final chase through London that will end either the “Syndicate” or the IMF for good.
