Digicel and the NBA Digicel and the NBA Organisation joined forces to launch the Jump Start Basketball Programme in the Territory, giving 40 Boys from Tortola and Virgin Gorda a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase their talent and gain selection to an elite training camp in Trinidad and Tobago. The clinic at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex is the first of six such events, all of which are aimed at 14-16 year olds and all of which will see five participants selected to represent the country at the five day elite camp. The top eight players from the camp will be chosen by an NBA legend as well as the coaches, to attend an NBA Game in the USA. The coaches in the BVI, Troy Justice and Robert Mackinnon, have extensive global experience within the NBA organisation and launched the clinic with an intensive warm up, including ball work, shooting and dribbling drills that got the boys more than ready for a series of five on five games that concluded the first day. Digicel Brand and Basketball Ambassador, Jason Edwin, has spent the past month working with the Basketball Federation to select the best 40 players. The boys were selected on skills, passion for the
game and drive to succeed and he’s confidant each of them will represent to the highest standard possible. Tommy Farrell, Commercial and Finance Director for Digicel (BVI) said, “he was delighted that the BVI had been chosen as the first location for the Jump Start Clinics. “We are certain, that as these boys are coached and mentored by the elite NBA coaches, that this clinic will develop their skills, take their game to the next level and that the benefits of the clinics will reach far beyond these 40 boys and the teachings of both players and coaches will live on for a long time to come” The clinics will be moving on to Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica, Bermuda and the Turks and Caicos, with the five-day camp in Trinidad and Tobago scheduled for September 23-28.

Ask Koren Too Many Lies Ask Koren Dear Koren,
Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!
work to change it. If this is the case, then you will have the same complaint five years later. You should ask yourself why you stay. What are you getting from the relationship that keeps you bound to this man in spite of the lies? When you identify what it is that keeps you still there, then you have to question if it is worth it to stay for the positive or if you should walk away and get it somewhere else. It is disrespectful for someone to keep lying to you and if you keep letting him get away with it, you are sending a message that it’s okay to keep hurting you. Do not be an enabler – someone who just helps someone to stay in their bad patterns by making excuses for them. Only you can decide when you have had enough. You deserve honesty and you deserve truth and respect. Give him a chance to come clean and if he chooses not to, then you can decide where you want the relationship to go. It might be that you will have to leave and create some emotional distance from him so you get to the point that if you still interact with him, his level of truthfulness will no longer have a major impact on you.
How do I deal with a guy I have known for 8 years and been involved with for 5 years who consistently and easily lies to me? He has deceived me badly in the past. I forgive him but he has not stopped. Lies seem to be a way of life for this gentleman and he seems to have no conscience. I love him and I do believe he cares for me but how can I trust someone when I don’t know if what is coming out of his mouth is true? –Tired & Frustrated Dear Tired and Frustrated Lady, There is a quotation that says “When someone shows you who they are, believe them”. Everyone deserves a second and even a third or fourth chance but why do you keep trusting someone who has shown you that he does not intend to change. It is nice that you love him and that he cares; however you need to ask yourself if someone cares about you, why they would deliberately do something to hurt and mislead you. Your love cannot change him, your love is not enough to cover the pain of betrayal. Love is wonderful but lies can eat away at loving feelings until all that is left is bitterness and resentment and a trust that is very difficult to rebuild. Does he even acknowledge that he has a problem? Even though no one is perfect and we all have faults, if an individual is not willing to accept that something is wrong, then it is not likely that he will

Bows in the Right Direction In just over a year after discussions began about the formation of the BVI Archery Federation (BVIAF), the new body is making numerous strides. This week the BVIAF is making its most significant mark, as a two-day training course wraps up for educators at the primary and secondary levels. Over the weekend, Kevin Dixon, the vice president of the USA’s National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) arrived in the Territory to conduct training session for the BVIAF. By the end of the training, officials are expecting 15 participants to gain certification in the sessions that wraps up today as well as training for its members. “We’re hoping to get as many of our Phys Ed and academic teachers trained as possible,” said Patrick Smith, BVI Archery Federation Public Relations Officer ahead of the event. “We are working on an archery program for the Territory, so getting the teachers NASP certified is the first step in developing programs for the youths then older adults.” After formalizing the body earlier this year, Smith said they noted that not all youths want to play baseball, basketball or team sports and not everyone is athletically gifted. He said archery is the sport that has the broadest level playing field, as it’s not limited to agility. “You can have people in wheel chairs, students, you don’t have to be tall or agile,” he noted. “You just have to have decent eyesight, a bit of concentration and go from there.” Smith said after contacting NASP, they realized that there were no representatives in the Virgin Islands and they were excited about establishing the program. “In fact, after our training, they said we will be the Caribbean representatives for NASP, meaning that, if anyone else in the region wants to be trained
Members of the BVIAF with Kevin Dixon VP of the USA’s NASP
they will either have to fly to BVI or fly us to their country for the training,” he explained. The program began with training for federation members followed by that for educators Smith said. He said based on feedback for the educators training he didn’t think they’d have a problem finding 15 people. He said once persons are certified and they follow the NASP guidelines, they’ll be able to train as many teachers at primary and secondary levels or other individuals as possible. “We have approached the Ministry of Education, shared our intent and they are very enthusiastic,” Smith said. “They are very impressed with out program, how we have things laid out, so it really looks promising.” This development shows the seriousness the archery association is taking the development of the discipline in the Territory. For any sport to fully develop, its leadership must have a vision and its affiliates – not only clubs or members – but everyone associated with it must be in unison, willing to cooperate for the common good of the sport and the level it can reach. Nothing happens without taking the bull by the horns. I commend the BVI Archery Federation on this initiative to develop the sport in the Territory. Continue to ‘pull it back and let it fly.’ 13

Limitless Eddie Mora (Bradley Cooper) is a disheveled writer, with a contract to write a book but so far has not come up with a single word. To add to his “writer’s block” his girlfriend Lindy (Abby Cornish) breaks up with him, frustrated with his lack of career progress. As he walks morosely home, he bumps into exbrother in-law Vernon (Johnny Whitworth) and they go for a drink. Vern tells Eddie that he works for a pharmaceutical company and after Eddie confesses that he is behind with his book, Vern gives him a new brain drug NZT48 that is under testing that he takes
