Kal David and Miss Lauri Bono @ Myett’s Head on down to Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay for your chance to see legendary blues and recording artists Kal David and Miss Lauri Bono performing on Tortola, Virgin Gorda and St John from May 6th to 24th. Kal David is recognized by his peers as one of the finest blues guitarists in the world today and he has played with the best of the best. Born and raised in Chicago, Kal's recording career began as a teenager, as a member of Kal David and the Exceptions, he was signed to a contract with King Records and later to Vee-Jay Records. Later on, Kal joined musical forces with guitarist Paul Cotton to form the group, The Rovin' Kind. This band recorded for Dunwich Records and Kal and Paul hit their stride, recording two critically acclaimed albums for Columbia Records, Illinois Speed Press and Duet. While in Woodstock Kal met his singing, writing and production partner, Miss Lauri Bono, who is a featured member of Kal's band.
After a move to Los Angeles in 1978, Kal and Lauri made a commitment to the Blues. In the studio or on tour their work with blues great Etta James was evident. In the mid eighties Miss Lauri did a short stint with Bette Midler as a Harlette and Kal joined John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers as featured vocalist and guitarist, replacing Mick Taylor. Kal has also played and recorded with the likes of BB King, Peter Cetera, Paul Cotton, Smokey Robinson, the Allman Brothers and the list goes on. Kal and Lauri just finished recording their latest album "Living The Dream" in Germany late last year and were awarded Artists of the Year by a music industry web magazine, Damn Good Tunes. Kal and Lauri are going to be performing at Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay May 6th, 7th, 11th, 12th and 21st. Don’t miss your chance to see the awesome performance – it is not to be missed. Bold Approach Didn’t Work
Ask Koren
Dear Koren, When I was setting my New Year resolutions, I decided to make this year the year I find a life partner. A lot of the magazines and talk shows encourage a woman to go after what she wants. Well for the year, in a subtle way, I approach three different guys and expressed my interest and none of them really pursued anything. Two of them I whatsapp but they never make no move or ask me out, the other one I sent a message with a friend to say, I’m interested, she say he laugh but then he never contact me. So what do I do now? ~Eager But Discouraged
yield the fruit you wanted. It sounds like you don’t want to be laid back about it. Maybe you could try online dating and see if you connect with anyone there. Love will eventually come but in the meantime, until it does, enjoy your singleness because it is not a curse. While you wait, just focus on you…loving yourself, having fun, trying new things, enriching your spiritual and social life, pursuing your dreams and just living your life like it’s golden. All this will help you to enjoy the here and now and will also prepare you for when that special someone comes around. You are complete just as you are. You are special and I would hope you have a lot in your life to occupy you. That does not mean you stop looking, it just means that you enjoy your now, what you currently have and the process of seeking love will not seem so frustrating to you.
Dear Eager Lady, The desire to find a life partner is normal and you are not alone. Millions of women around the world dream of finding that special someone, so you are in good company. Everyone’s methods of doing so are different though – some go to clubs, some go to speed dating events, some approach men verbally, some ask for set ups and referrals, some try online dating, etc. You have tried with 3 persons and it did not work out, but it sounds like you got two friends, in the process. Not bad. Everything in life that we do should be a learning experience, so do not get discouraged. You have tried the bold approach and it did not

Deadpool It’s been years in the making but fans of Marvel will be happy with the latest entry in the incessantly expanding comic book movie series; this time we are introduced to the potty mouthed anti-hero superhero Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a mercenary with a heart of mold. There’s nothing sentimental about him. He hangs out at a bar with other mercenaries and hit men, run by a guy named Weasel (T.J. Miller). Weasel is Reynolds’ best friend, so to speak, and together they are a ferocious comedy duo. Weasel runs a “dead pool” – that is, a betting pool with odds on which one of his patrons is likely to die next. One night after a job Reynolds meets Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), who shares his wit and values and they fall hard for each other. Reynolds eventually proposes to Vanessa but after passing out one night finds out he has terminal cancer. Weasel, a funny guy but a terrible person, bets on his best buddy when he learns he may die. Having found his soul mate and willing to do anything to be with her forever. Reynolds is approached by a shady organization that offers him a cure. Although skeptical he agrees to participate in this topsecret experiment if it means staying with Vanessa. After he is experimented on by super villain Ajax (Ed

Skrein) the procedure leaves him with advanced healing powers and strength but a horribly disfigured face and body, ironically his face and body only heal back to the disfigured face and not his once pretty boy looks. When Ajax leaves him in a burning building hoping that would be his demise, Deadpool who survives the fire, spends the next year training to hunt him down and kill him. Incredibly funny and witty Deadpool is essentially a revenge story about a guy who is too vain to return to his beautiful girlfriend while disfigured, so he hunts down the man responsible.

Is it Real? An Encounter with the Green Flash For years I have heard stories of the Green Flash. Like séances, UFOs and alien abductions, the green flash, I believed, was the product of an overactive imagination – or, too much to drink after a long day at sea. But then I saw one. I was walking on Long Bay and sat down to enjoy an amazing sunset – the type that you only get in summer. The sea was calm and

Ah, the Governor’s Cup Again! I have a suggestion, but it might not go down really well. For the last five years, no BVI horse has won the Premier’s Cup during August Festival Races. However, with Lesmore Smith’s Giant Valley winning the St. Thomas Carnival Governor’s Cup on Friday— the fifth time a BVI horse has captured the USVI’s jewel in six years – how about considering the Governor’s Cup being our Premier’s Cup? Ok, ok, I’ll take my licks for the off the wall suggestion. Why is Lesmore more famous in St. Thomas, winning the Governor’s Cup three times than on Tortola where he has never won the Premier’s Cup? “I guess it’s because of the effort and the energy I put into it,” he said of winning with Good Prosepcting in 2011 and 2012 and Giant Valley in 2016. “I guess it’s because it’s maybe my time of blessings from the almighty God. And he allows me to shine when it matters most.” While he was looking for “an excellent race” this year, in scoping out Giant Valley, he noticed that he had beaten St. Croix’s St. Moose and when St. Moose beat him, it wasn’t by much. “As a result of this, it gave me the courage to believe that with the proper training and fine tuning, he could do the job with a good jockey on board,” Lesmore explained. “I retained the jockey that rode him when he beat St. Moose and it was a combination of things that gave me the courage and faith and I did believe and God was able in my belief to
bring me through.” While he clutches the Governor’s Cup, he has failed to snatch the Premier’s Cup. “Good Prospecting ran better in St. Thomas than he did on Tortola on most occasions,” he noted. “Some horses love the lighter sand, some love the deeper track and Good Prospecting responded better on St. Thomas’ track, which surface was much firmer for him and he gave me his all on that track. I think tracks and track bias also has a factor and Prospecting never delivered (on Tortola) as he delivered in St. Thomas. That’s one of the things indeed I look back on, but no excuses. The horse didn’t deliver and that’s the only horse I basically had going up,” Lesmore added. “I know one year, with Square One, we ran second in that race. I have made some competitive bids, but I’ve never been successful, but, I’ve always been successful in the Governor’s Cup in St. Thomas. Maybe, my best hope is to take their prizes away from them.” With USVI horses grabbing the last five Premier’s Cups, Lesmore has designs on stopping the streak. “This year, I’m intending to put an indent in that and I think I’m on a good road to success,” he stated. “This horse, to beat him you have to front him and with the speed that he has, if all goes well, by the help of the almighty, good care and maintenance, I think we should be in a good competitive role this time around.” 16
