This Week’s Feature Story By Janette Costello
Fun at Foxy’s Music Fest For music lovers everywhere, this inaugural event, Foxy’ Music Fest will be rocking Jost Van Dyke Saturday, 21st May from 10am till midnight. Come along to this free show where a wealth of international talent will collaborate with local artists throughout the day and evening bringing a unique mix of musical styles to the stage! Special guests include vocalist Mark Rivers and saxophonist Kebbi Williams (both members of the Grammy Award winning blues band, Tedeschi Trucks Band). The group’s members perform diverse musical genres including blues, jazz, hiphop, bluegrass, soul and good ol rock & roll. Also headlining is Laura Bono, an Italian pop-rock singer-songwriter who will be joined by Kal David, an outstanding vocalist and blues musician. The visiting musicians are excited to bring their tradition of musical collaboration to the stage at Foxy’s. They have performed with legends such as George Clinton and P-Funk, Outkast, Branford

Marsalis, John Legend, Mos Def, Snarky Puppy and Bruce Hamilton to name but a few. But most of all, they are excited to share the stage with local BVI musicians such as Final Faze, DJ Dean and many others. Said Jemilla Callwood of Foxy’s, “Foxy’s Music Fest brings together a fun eclectic group of musicians. We hope that it grows into an annual event that will bring together artists while inspiring our kids on Jost Van Dyke to pursue music.” Foxy’s Music Fest has been established to commemorate and support Foxy’s School of Music, an educational program established in 2015 with the support of BVI visitor and philanthropist, Tony Martin of “Just Rights Music” which supports up and coming artists to launch their music careers. Mr Martin provided musical instruments to establish Foxy’s School of Music and proceeds of this event will support the hiring of a music teacher for the project. If you don’t have your own boat, ferries leave West End to JVD at 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 6pm with returning trips from JVD at 5pm and 11:30pm. So get on over to JVD and get into the festival spirit where you can dance in the sand with a cold drink in your hand all for a great cause. Perfect!

Ask Koren
Your personal E-therpist, is in the house!
Why I Stay AskDo Koren Dear Koren, Why do I have a hard time leaving a guy who keeps hurting me over and over. I have made sacrifices for this guy and even borrowed money for him. We live separately and he stay by me sometimes but other times I don’t know who he have by him because I work a lot of nights. We are together for 6 years now and he not saying anything about living together or marriage and sometimes he can be so uncaring. I would appreciate your opinion if you think I am wasting my time with him. – Fed-up Dear Fed-up, There could be several reasons why you haven’t left him. Maybe you don’t think you are good enough for anyone else – you don’t see yourself as deserving better, maybe he has done a lot for you too so you would feel guilty leaving, maybe the good in him is way more than the bad, maybe you think you can save him or maybe you focus on his potential and just keep hoping that he will change. Look, don’t beat yourself up; we all want to be loved and to give love in return and sometimes we get so accustomed to someone that the thought of starting over with someone else seems like climbing a mountain. So we try to make the best of what we have and hope that it becomes better. When things start going sour, we put more and more effort into the relationship and then realize the person is not matching our efforts. Based on Limin’ Times Entertainment Gude
the information you gave me, I cannot say if you are wasting your time with him; what I can say is that you deserve to be treated with respect and care and kindness in your relationship. I don’t believe in the adage, better any than none. I think a person is better off single than in an unhappy relationship that makes them constantly miserable. Do you and this guy even talk? Does he know how unhappy you are? A real boyfriend would see and hear and sense your unhappiness and try to turn things around. I think you should let him know your needs are not being met and see if he can step up his game a bit. If he is not willing to budge or if he does not take your concerns seriously, then I would say you are wasting your time. Send your questions to askkoren@live.com or follow us on twitter @korennorton and a response will be provided 6

Tattle Tales Will Delight The Cada Players’ 21st production, “TattleTales”, will showcase the talents of BVI residents in dance, puppetry and music at UP’s Cineplex Ballroom this weekend and next weekend. Charming, life-sized puppets designed by acclaimed U.S. Master Puppeteer, Richard Bay, will bring three rich African fables to life amid vibrant drums, beautiful dancers, big screen projections and witty story-telling. There are eight opportunities to see the show, with two performances scheduled for Saturday, May 21st, two for Sunday the 22nd, and a repeat of these shows the following week-end, May 28th and 29th at 3pm and 8pm each day. The 3:00 pm performance on the Sundays are planned especially for young children, so make this a family affair. In keeping with the drama group’s long tradition of “acting up” for good causes, “TattleTales” proceeds will benefit Hands on Volunteers for Green VI and Haiti. Tickets are $20 Youth/Seniors, $30 Adults, $40 VIP, and are available at Vanterpool’s, Studio One, Tortola Express, House, and from any of the show’s 30 cast members. The Ring The predominant tourism product in the BVI is yacht chartering and one of the main issues when a week’s cruise is booked is the consumption of water. As a yacht captain I usually encourage charter guests to use the outside shower after swimming or snorkeling. Joy dish washing liquid is good for lathering in salt water and the modern outside shower provides hot and cold water for rinsing off afterwards. John had always had a burning ambition to sail. Long distance cruising was his ultimate goal. As usual I explained the ‘Joy method.’ “In tropical waters jump in for a swim, then wash yourself with Joy dish-washing liquid; it’s well known amongst sailors for lathering in salt water. Jump in to rinse off and towel off to remove the salt. Whilst underway use a bucket; saving fresh water is important!” For the next couple of mornings John used the ‘Joy method’ but sometime later he noticed that his wedding ring was missing, “Must have come off while I was showering, slippery stuff that Joy.” Surprisingly he didn’t seem too concerned. Then he explained the story of the ring. “We got married in a civil ceremony – must have been almost thirty years ago. Well, I bought my wife a ring but when she asked about a ring for me I said I’d rather have a new tape deck (remember tape decks?). She looked at me askance - but finally agreed. A year later she got pregnant and when the Limin’ Times Entertainment Gude

baby was born she wanted to have a christening. Just before the ceremony she remembered I didn’t have a ring. “She told me, in no uncertain terms, that I couldn’t possibly go to the christening of my own daughter without a wedding ring. What would the pastor think? “She ordered me to run to the jewelry store and get a ring. Well, the only one they had was a bit too big but I bought it anyway – and since then I never bothered to have it altered to fit. And now it’s gone!” John’s sailing buddy, David, had never heard this story, “What are you going to do?” he asked “You know if you go home without your wedding ring your wife will think you took it off to encourage a bit of hanky panky?” “Why don’t you buy a bling ring, make sure your wife notices it when you get home, then throw it away saying you lost it there?” I suggested. John, who should have been the most upset at his loss, just waved his hand indifferently as if it was nothing. “Never liked wearing jewelry anyway,” he said. A day after their sailing trip was over I was in town and just happened to notice the two likely lads coming out of a jewelry store. He surmised that the expensive looking package probably contained a new gold wedding band for John – and possibly a luxury trinket for his beloved wife.

Beastly In this modern day take of the Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast, this film explores the premise that you can have everything you want in life – as long as you have good looks, wealth and the confidence that those attributes bring. Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) is all of the above with a little arrogance thrown in for good measure. He is also the son of vain news anchor, Rob Kingston who does little to instill a sense of humanity in his charge. When Kyle wins as student body president, he bullies the eccentric and gothically dressed, Kendra (MaryKate Olsen). Disgusted, she magically transforms Kyle into a bald, tattooed and scarred shell of his once magnificent self. Thrown into despair, Kyle speaks with Kendra who says that he has until the spring to find someone who loves him or he will stay this way forever. His father, meanwhile finds an apartment for Kyle and hires Zoe as his maid, who has left her three children in Jamaica while she works to pay for them, and Will as Kyle’s tutor who although blind, has a healthy optimism and does not let anything stand in his way. The three eventually form a bond and Zoe and Will help Kyle get to know Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) a girl from his former school who he finds that he is infatuated with. When Lindy and her father are mugged, Lindy’s father shoots one of the muggers and the other vows revenge by threatening Lindy’s life. Kyle saves them both and arranges for Lindy to move in with him for her safety. Initially infuriated at being “imprisoned,” the pair warm up to each other – however she has no idea who Limin’ Times Entertainment Gude

he really is as he calls himself “Hunter” around her. Kyle writes her a long love letter professing his love but did not give it to her for fear of rejection. With the second mugger now imprisoned, Kyle and Lindy are getting closer. They were at the lake cottage, and just as they were about to kiss, Lindy receives a phone call to say her father is in hospital. Desperate, and with time running out, Kyle gives Lindy the letter but is disappointed when she tells him “he’s a good friend.” Lindy reads the letter and calls and calls but Kyle will not respond, feeling foolish for unveiling his feelings. Inspired by Will and Lola, Kyle goes to visit Lindy one last time before she leaves for Machu Pichu and explains why he did not answer her calls. As she walks away for her trip, she professes her love, and with this, Kendra’s spell is broken restoring him to his normal, handsome self, but is this now enough and can he win Lindy back when she recognizes him as Kyle? You will just have to watch and find out!
