This Week’s Feature Story by Arlena Smith

Seaweed Everywhere It’s hard not to notice the growing seaweed problem throughout the island, mainly due to all the floating brown stuff that has been popping up on our shorelines and the pungent smell coming from it. The floating brown seaweed is a marine algae that originates from the Sargasso Sea, which is a region in the North Atlantic Ocean. Sargassum Seaweed is commonly found on beaches and shorelines throughout tropical areas worldwide, and undergoes seasonal cycles of growth and decay due

Ask Koren

Your personal E-therapist, is in the house!

Is He Stealing From Me

Ask Koren

Dear Koren, I believe my boyfriend is stealing from me. On two occasions I thought I had a particular sum of money and when I checked it was less. He works at a supermarket and makes enough money to take care of himself, but since he started smoking, he goes through his money so fast it seems like he have his mind on what I work for too. We don’t live together but he come and goes as he likes at my apartment because I trust him. Should I ask him outright or set a trap to find out? – JL

you imagined the two incidents or they were isolated; in that case you can come right out and mention that you thought you had a particular sum of money and now it seems to be less and see what he says. If the money that you deliberately left is taken, then you have the difficult task of confronting him and seeing if he will come clean or if he is a liar as well as a thief. Either way, you are faced with a difficult situation and if you cannot trust someone, what hope is there for the relationship? You then have to decide how you want to go forward. Regardless of the outcome, if you have concerns about the rising costs of his new habit, as a concerned girlfriend, I think you should bring it up, after all sticky fingers are nothing compared to damaged lungs while being completely broke.

Dear JL, For both your sakes, I hope it is a simple misunderstanding and he is not stealing from you. Sometimes we make mistakes in our counting and checking, so you want to be certain before you confront him and have him feel a sense of betrayal for your lack of trust. Most thieves will not readily admit to stealing, so asking outright might not yield fruitful results. I don’t like being sneaky, but I think this scenario well warrants a trap. Maybe we will all feel better if we call it a test. Make a note of how much money you are leaving in a particular area or areas and then check back a week or so later. This will only work if both of you are the only two persons with access to the cash. If after several weeks the money is still there, then maybe

Permanently Wired It is not often in these hi-tech days to be “off-line,” in fact is almost a mortal sin not to be “on” 24/7… especially with the number of social media and chat sites that are evolving and emerging almost daily. It can be exhausting… In fact, I remember when I got my first “smart” phone that was an iPhone 4. I really did not want anything to do with it for the first week or so. I thought, “Why do I want this? I just want a phone to make calls.” However, once you start to use them, within a few days you are simply inseparable. The Flash It's pretty much a given that any new TV series is going to have a period of adjustment as the actors settle into their roles and the writers hone the show's voice. With superhero shows, it may take a month or two or it could take the better part of a season. However, The Flash was unique in its first season in the sense that it never really needed to find itself or grow into something better. It simply started strong and continually got better. Much of the credit rests with the fact that The Flash was hardly starting from scratch. This show is the first spinoff of Arrow and its growing superhero universe. Not only did The Flash not have to waste much time establishing its universe, it didn't even have to introduce viewers to its main character Grant Gustin as super-speedster Barry Allen. Midway through Arrow's second season, we saw at the creation of The Flash with the accident that created him. By the time this show came around, viewers already knew Barry, what made him tick and what fueled his particular quest. The premiere episode, “City of Heroes,” did a fine job of laying out the cast of characters and basic status quo for the show. The idea that the STAR Labs particle accelerator created a new wave of meta-humans alongside The Flash offered an easy way to start building a roster of villains and put Barry's growing speed powers to the test. Gustin brought a winning blend of youthful energy and a Peter Parker-esque awkwardness to the table. He gave us a Barry Allen that's impossible not Limin’ Times Entertainment Guide

to connect with. Barry is immensely likable. He's less intense than Oliver Queen of Arrow. He's driven by tragedy but anchored by a small family unit. One of the main reasons for The Flash's success, though, is its supporting cast. So much of the drama and the emotional core of the show centered around Barry's ties to his core circle of friends, family and allies. His adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) keeps him grounded and honest and then there is his adoptive sister who Barry is secretly in love with, Iris (Candice Patton) – a story line that surprisingly never comes across as creepy or as incest-y as it could have. His newfound father figure/mentor in Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) who has a secret that is sure to change this relationship in the future. Then there are his new friends/partners in metahuman-busting, Dr. Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) it is these friendship that have made Barry the most likeable of all the comic book heroes. Stay tuned for what The Flash has to offer I promise you wouldn’t be disappointed. 14
