Ask Koren Another Woman Pregnant
Dear Koren, I had 2 miscarriages over the last 3 years and now my boyfriend has another woman pregnant. This is the worse news he could have given me. He claimed he only went with her for the brief period when I was depressed after the last miscarriage and had broken up with him. I was grieving and didn’t want to see anyone but I did not expect him to go with someone else. How am I supposed to cope with this? -Depressed Dear Writer, I do agree with you that after having two miscarriages, the thought of someone else having a baby for your boyfriend has to be very upsetting. I can’t begin to imagine how you are feeling but I’m sorry that you have to deal with this. Unfortunately, if you were separated, though briefly, then both parties had the right to do whatever they want during that time. However, it’s not a good sign that he connected with someone else so intimately so soon and understandably that will raise some questions. If you decide to stay with him, then it will be really rough to see him excited about another child and he will have to spend time with the mother and the child when he or she eventually comes. Can you deal with that? Think carefully about it before you proceed with making a decision as this will be a long term situation. Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
On another note, please listen to me carefully. You can be happy even without a child. You are whole and complete and worthy of love. So love yourself harder than you ever had before and while you will have a challenging path ahead dealing with your losses and what seems to be a betrayal, you can balance it by filling your life with positives. It is necessary that you have a talk with him to see where the relationship is headed and what part he wants you to play in this new scenario. Coping with it means deciding what is best for you and having a support system of persons that you can lean on when the going gets tough. It means allowing yourself to go through the grieving process and giving yourself time to heal. It’s acknowledging that you are human and will be sad sometimes, angry sometimes, but at the end of the day, always remembering that you have things to be grateful for and that you are loved will help you to heal and go forward. Send your questions to askkoren@live.com or follow us on twitter @korennorton and a response will be provided 10

Hats
By Leslie Cramer
a Caribbean Statement Chapeaus, lids, headcoverings – call them what you’d like, but their main purpose remains the samekeeping the hot, tropical sun off the noggin. Sure they can be fashion statements, just ask the Queen or anyone who follows her and her day-to-day activities. Civilized British ladies most always sport hats of some sort, even in chilly, wet England, where keeping off the sun›s rays isn›t their sole purpose. Daughter-in-law Kate Middleton? Case in point. But those of us calling the BVI home know hats to be an outdoors essential. At some point or other, we›ve all suffered the dreaded sunburn. If we›d had the smarts from the get-go, we›d have remembered to bring it (the hat) along, and not suffered the burn and peel of the day after. My lid of choice is a woven straw headpiece, that was in pretty good shape ‘til an adorable little puppy came toddling down Cane Garden Bay, and decided it was an outstanding chew toy. I was able to wrestle it away from the young beast, but not before his chompers had left their mark. I also have quite a few baseball-type hats, regatta gifts that stack up over time. But the issue with them is they tend to fly right off the head, especially when you are Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
on an upwind leg and a 30 knot gust blasts your way. My significant other relies on my fashion choices, and he, too, sports a big straw hat, with a huge, wide brim (an appropriate last year›s Christmas present from, yes, me.) His issue, though, is even more dire. He has a completely shaved head, and in even a matter of a few short minutes, begins to feel the burn if any capacity of sun is shining. When all else fails (though we try to make sure this doesn›t happen, like ever... ) a bandanna wrapped piratestyle will suffice, but that does nothing for the neck and shoulders. And guys rarely remember sunblock, even when its placed right there in their hand. The ticket, though, as I›ve come to realize, is the cinch cord, that can tighten that chapeau right down when cinched up under the neck. Keeps the hat on tight even when raging wind is blowing about. Somehow I feel the Mexican field workers were onto something – as in the best hat of all, the sombrero. I don’t care how dorky it may or may not make you look. Its all about protection, and lots of it. Foxy›s (Tessa›s) on Jost Van Dyke has about the best overall selection I›ve come across in the BVI. And I›m going shopping. 12

Twins in the field Twin sisters Tynelle and Trevia Gumbs ended their career for Central Arizona College on Thursday, at the National Jr. College Athletics Association Championships in Levelland,Texas and will likely move on to different institutions in the fall. They became interested in field events watching the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. And, for the last four years, the duo has been rewriting the territory’s field events records in the Shot Put, Discus, Javelin and Hammer Throw events. They have both won Carifta Games medals and both have garnered Jr. College All America honors. Tynelle entered last week’s championships with the second best Hammer Throw mark of 56.13m and was excited to see what everyone was “bringing to the table.” Disappointedly, she fouled out of the competition while Trevia used a personal best of 49.51m to place fourth. “I just wasn’t in rhythm for the Hammer,”Tynelle said. She bounced back with a second place finish after a 46.98m effort in the Discus to earn All America honors, while Trevia was sixth with 43.76. “I was extremely happy even though I did not go over 50m as I wanted too,”Tynelle, who has a 47.76 best said. “I’m happy I was able to pull out second place.” Tynelle placed fourth in the Javelin Throw with a 40.05m effort and Trevia had a season’s best of 14.50m in the Shot Put, good for sixth place. “I was excited for her because she did better than a lot of girls who were ranked higher than her,”Tynelle said of Trevia. “I was so proud.” Although they could end up at different schools in the fall, Tynelle enjoyed having her twin in Arizona. “It’s always great having my sister there,” she stated. “She’s my biggest Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

motivation and she’s a great competitor too.” Trevia, who has a 14.83m best, struggled mightily in the Shot Put this season, before throwing over 14.00m for the first time all year in the championships. “I had a season’s best in the Shot and a personal best in the Hammer, but I know there’s way more room for further throws,” she said. “This year has been very rough in the Shot for me. I started getting back in the swing of things two weeks ago and I’m getting back up there with my marks and I know I have a lot left this season.” Trevia was satisfied with her Hammer Throw personal best. “I know I had a lot more there,” she said. “But, I was content in getting the points for my team and making the finals.” With their Jr. College career over and not sure they will be at the same school come September, which “would be nice but if we have to go different places that’s fine,” says Tynelle, they’re now turning their attention to regional competitions. The soon to be 20-year olds, will compete at the July 2-3 OECS Championships on home soil before heading to El Salvador for the July 15-17, NACAC U23 Championships. “We’re definitely excited for both competitions,” Tynelle said. “We’re not only looking to make the finals, but medaling, especially at NACAC.” 14
