10-year-old Auggie (Jacob Tremblay) was born with an exceedingly rare condition that means his face looks very different from most other children. He’s already had 27 facial surgeries, and likes to walk the streets near his Manhattan home in an astronaut helmet to avoid being stared at. His mom (Julia Roberts) has been homeschooling him so far, but she and Auggie’s dad (Owen Wilson) know he can’t avoid the wider world forever. They enroll him in a private prep school, reasoning that now, at the beginning of middle school when every child feels awkward and insecure, is the best time for Auggie to enter a classroom. Despite pep talks from his parents and his doting older sister Via (Izabela Vidovic), Auggie’s first day doesn’t go well. In the first weeks, the only bright spots in the school day are the encouraging words from school principal Mr. Tushman (Mandy Patinkin) and Auggie’s homeroom teacher Mr. Browne (Daveed Diggs). Gradually though, Auggie learns to ignore class bully Julian (Bryce Gheisar). He even manages to make friends with a boy in his class named Jack Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

(Noah Jupe). By October, Auggie is feeling confident: He excels in his classes, especially science. He makes Jack laugh, and has earned acceptance from other students at the school as well. But on Halloween, disguised under a ghost-face mask, he hears Jack telling Julian and some other boys that he’d kill himself if he looked like Auggie. Instantly, his favorite day of the year is turned into a horrible one. He makes himself sick so he can go home from school, and his parents and sister have to beg him to leave the house for trickor-treating later. Auggie stubbornly refuses to tell Jack why he is mad at him, but Jack remains committed to his friend, even going so far as to punch Julian when the bully escalates his regular tormenting. The way the two friends make peace, and later, the way the entire school comes to recognize Auggie’s quiet strength, make for a heartwarming ending for this family movie. Wonder is available on iTunes, Amazon and other streaming services.

Black & White Thang The Black & White Thang was born in Tortola in May 2008 and has had tremendous success over the years, becoming one of the most talked about themed events in the territory, especially among the BVIslanders who look forward to the event each year. This signature event, conceptualized by Fabian Graneau of Wings Productions, welcomes all fun-loving party-goers to express themselves in an atmosphere which has been spiced up by the theme — everyone wears black and white outfits — and the entertainment. Over the years, similar events have popped up in neighboring Caribbean islands such as Dominica, Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados and, farther afield, in Miami. The event is a sophisticated semi-formal affair, which also sets it apart from the conventional and casual events filled with colors that are held during the year.

Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.

“The event has created many memorable moments and it is our intention as the event grows bigger and older to make it more and more entertaining and eventful,” Fabian said. This year will be the 12th year the event will be hosted in the BVI, and it’s set to feature two different dance floors and three bars. Black & White Thang Reloaded is next Saturday (May 4th) from 9pm until at Island Sizzle. You Can Do No Wrong I came across Kassana Wilson when one of my Facebook friends shared her short stories on her timeline. I was elated when Kassana posted that she would discontinue posting her story You Can Do No Wrong, but only because she was publishing it as a book. Kassana Wilson is an urban writer that resides in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She has been writing since she was a young girl and life’s hardships are what pushes her further in her writing. Her characters come to life when she writes, and she encourages young women to tell their own stories. In You Can Do No Wrong, Tiana, a numb young mother, tries to find solutions in life while loving an abusive man. After falling pregnant as a teen, Tiana tries to deflect the blame away from her abusive older boyfriend. The lie she tells, that she was raped, sends an innocent man to jail. With lies, money, betrayal and jealousy anything is bound to happen until Tiana takes control of her destiny. Years later, as an adult, she is still with the same abusive boyfriend and living in fear for herself and her daughter everyday. As her story continues, she gets reconnected with her first-born whom she gave up for adoption. Also in this part of the story, she learns that her mother’s long time boyfriend, gives her drugs and rapes her every time she visits her mom. What could make this awful situation worse? It’s Tiana’s sister who supplies him with the sleeping Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

drugs. The man she accused of rape gets released from jail and he happens to be her boyfriend’s dad. Tragedy happens and Tianna ends up in jail. In the middle of the story, part two, after Tiana went to jail, her daughter Summer grew up and left her father’s home. She ends up being a big time drug dealer and wasn’t one to play with. Twists and turns cause her to gain enemies she didn’t even knew she had beef with. Even her own other half plots against her. One of the things she tries to do was get her mother out of jail but life gets in the way. It’s as if Summer is marked for death the way things were happening to her. In part three of the story, Tiana is out of jail and deadly secrets are revealed about Tiana and connections surrounding Summer and her brother. Tiana is not the mother she supposes herself to be and all the connections are really linked to one another in the craziest way. Every innocent event has a heinous monster in the background. What are all these dirty secrets, lies and connections all about? Who is the real monster in Tiana’s story? Trust me the jaw dropping moments in this story will keep you on the edge of your seat. I wonder if they will make a movie out of it. It sure will be a blockbuster hit. You Can Do No Wrong is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and evisionwonder.com. 6

She Devil

An attractive female who is capable of manipulating men into getting their way – Urban Dictionary

Chapter 15: The Big Day The time was here and I was nervous as hell, I was graduating with suma cum laude and I didn’t have any real family to be by my side. I invited Bobby, I know David will be there and Da Don if he was up too it. Oh! You don’t know do you. Three months ago Da Don was shot outside the club early one evening. The bullet missed his heart by an inch, thank God his goons were around to lay some heat. Speculation is that he is heavy in the game but I never got that vibes from him. I’ve never even seen him smoke weed, only cigars. I was outside among my fellow graduates waiting for our procession. I know David was inside but I was secretly hoping Da Don was there too. Coming down the corridor, I spotted Bobby with Henry next to him, and on the other side of the aisle there was Da Don and a few of his boys with him. I smiled at all of them. I was so happy they were all her supporting me. I knew David was in a special seat so I wouldn’t see him until I got to the front. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the graduating class of 2019. I was mostly in tears when they made that announcement because I didn’t have any blood family around to witness it. But I was happy I had everyone else. Outside the auditorium, I gathered the men toLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

gether so I can get pictures with each of them. Bobby and Henry told me they were so happy for me and that I need to make space in my schedule to do lunch with them tomorrow. I agreed. Da Don told me congrats and that he had something delivered to me. Oh, in case you were wondering, I retired from the club at the end of October. Halloween night was my last official night and it was also the night I made real bank for the year. I’m talking about house mortgage kind of money. It had a big basketball game that night and both teams were in the club along with big names in entertainment. It wasn’t a cash night; it was a special night with reserved spots and pre-booked private dances. I was well known so I had 10 private dances that night, plus I was the feature. David and I celebrated my graduation as a real couple. He took me out to a fancy dinner and even invited his mom and a few of his friends. I was happy to meet them because it shows how much I mean to him. With luck, I’ll be forming a bond with them and it will be nice to have friendships outside the few I made at the club. After a few days, he had to return home but he was going to come back in two weeks to spend the holidays with his family and me. I can’t wait. 12

The Power of Positive Thinking The world is full of all kinds of people and many of us refer to ourselves as realists. So we thrive on being pessimistic and expecting the worse because we don’t want to be blindsided. I support the idea of being realistic and looking at the world as it is, but that does not mean, that we cannot be more open to seeing the good, expecting good things to happen and learning to train our brain to think positively. Of course, it takes practice to refocus your thoughts when you start going down the rabbit hole of “what if ” and “nothing good ever happens to me”. Here are five ways to capture the superpower of focusing on the sunny side of life and being a positive person: 1. Spend time with positive people. If you are around grumblers all day or people who have a Ph. D in misery, you are likely to catch their attitude. Spend time with people who are optimistic and it will rub off on you. 2. Remember the good you have experienced. Try to remember that the fact that you are still here means you survived car accidents, bullies and food poisoning – that means that you have a lot to celebrate about this life and no matter how bad things get, never forget that there is some good. 3. Use positive words. Watch the way you talk to yourself and about yourself. Sometimes we spend so much time putting ourselves down, it’s no wonder we feel so badly about life. Charity begins at home and it starts with you loving you. 4. Make the right choices. I’ve noticed that a lot of the things we fuss and complain about are 13

of our own making. We develop bad habits, make questionable choices and when we have to suffer the consequences, we blame the world. Making the right choices does not guarantee stellar outcomes, but we certainly stand a better chance. 5. Be thankful. Gratitude helps us to actively look for things to be thankful for. When we count our blessings we see the glass is half full and not as half empty. That’s not to say we won’t be upset or hurt or disappointed, but we will never lose sight of our blessings.

Reflecting On Croal’s 200m Golden Historic Run When Jaleel Croal blasted out the blocks from lane eight on Sunday night during the 48th Carifta Games in the Cayman Islands, then punched his right fist in the air 21.43 seconds later as two Jamaicans and the rest of the field chased him, he had deepened his lore in BVI sporting history and in the process, ended a 43-year drought. Croal’s scintillating sprint marked the first time that a BVI athlete had ever won a track and field sprint gold medal at the Carifta Games since the territory’s 1976 debut. A day earlier, Croal, 16, etched his name in history as the first U17 Boys medalist the territory had produced, when he claimed 100m bronze in 10.80 seconds. To put Croal’s feat in context, it’s necessary to reflect. Only three athletes before him—Dean Greenaway, in 1978, Keita Cline in 1990 and Rikkoi Brathwaite in 2018, had ever made an U20 or U17 Boys 200m sprint final, with Cline claiming bronze, Greenaway placing seventh after earning 400m silver—the territory’s first medal in 1978—and Brathwaithe was also seventh. Last year, Croal who didn’t even make the 200m final, became just the territory’s third 100m finalist ever and finished fifth. He joined Derwin Scatliffe, U17 Boys in 1987, Brathwaite, U18 Boys in 2016-(U18 was contested 2014-2016) then U20 Boys in 2017 and in 2018 when he grabbed 100m bronze, ending a 42-

year sprint drought as the only boys who had been finalists. “It means a lot and I’m so happy,” Croal said after snatching gold in his favorite race. “In qualifying, it gave me a boost that I had a chance to get a medal for the BVI. From the start of the race, I was saying drive, drive, drive. I did that and executed it throughout the whole race.” Asked when he knew he had it won, Croal said with 50m left, he didn’t see the Jamaicans or anyone else. “I ran through the line and couldn’t believe it at all, but, it felt very good,” he said, noting that the 400m was instrumental in his preparations. “My coach used that to build my confidence in my races, the 100 and 200 and I became confident when I ran 50.19.” In the 100m where he got bronze, Croal said it was simply amazing. “But, I worked hard for it,” he said, noting that he saw Djimon Gumbs got U20 bronze in the Shot Put, Akrissa Eristee, U17 Girls 400m silver and Khybah Dawson, U17 Boys Long Jump silver. “I wanted to add one to the team so I went out and did that. The main thing that was on my mind, was to execute my drive, when I came off my drive, push hard and I did that and I surprisingly came third.” Beyonce DeFreitas won U20 girls 200m silver and the 4x400m relay team of Eristee, Kayleaah Liburd, Ariyia Smith and Jahtivya Williams, earned silver.
