Autism Awareness & Child Abuse Prevention Month We here at Limin’ Times like to show our support by participating in events for a good cause, but we also like to keep our readers up-to-date and inform them on how they can help or show support. The month of April is Autism Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and non verbal communication. There are three different types of ASD; Autistic Disorder, Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorder. Child Abuse is child maltreatment, whether it’s physical, sexual or psychological from anyone, especially by a parent or caregiver. Below are some ways you can show your support of both causes. Blue Teddy pins are currently on sale at the Social Development Department, $5 each. All proceeds from pin sales go toward therapy for children affected by child abuse. In support of Autism, on Saturday come out to Vigilant Stars 3rd Annual Charity Light It Up Run & Walk. The route is from Riteway Pasea to Cyril B

Romney Pier Park. Bring out all your friends because there is a prize for the largest participating group. Registration is onsite at the Pasea starting point from 5pm, and it costs $10 (includes glow items and a water bottle). Walking and running begins at 6pm. This and every Friday in April, it’s Blue Cupcake Fridays. LSL Bakery partners with Social Development Department to raise money in support of Autism Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention. Purchase blue cupcakes at both LSL locations (Tortola and Virgin Gorda). A portion of proceeds will go toward therapeutic services provided by the Family, Children and Protective Service Division. Come out and support this cause and remember every child matters. Activities continue this Saturday on Virgin Gorda with a Movie Night from 5-8pm at St. Mary’s Anglican Church grounds. The event is hosted by STARC. In addition to the movie, there will be other activities including face painting, cupcake decorating and more. Entry is $5 adults and $3 children. Attendees are asked to please wear blue and to walk with a blanket as the movie will be shown outdoors. Funds raised will go toward families in need.

I have achieved that wonderous stage of life where I made it all the way through an entire April 1st without having one soul give me an asinine lie and then turn around and call it a joke. Not even on social media, y’all. I am thrilled! It’s not that I have anything against jokes. I love humor, seriously! But too often I find that April Fool’s Day “jokes” are just people claiming that they are getting married/divorced, having a baby, got sick, lost a limb, or some other major life event. How are these things funny? Is the joke on people who are actually trying to deal with the reality of those things? I just don’t get it. I realize that some persons out there might like to make an actually humorous joke when April Fool’s rolls around next year, so I decided to search out some jokes where nobody gets hurt. Here are my top six totally wholesome April Fool’s Day jokes. 1. Fake donut box. Bring a big pink box like the ones you usually get from the bakery full of sugary treats to work or class. When your friends open it, they will be surprised to find it full of healthy cut veggies. Healthy treats for everyone! Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

2. Hogwarts acceptance letter. Even the most innocent children know that this wizarding school isn’t real, but if you’re into paper craft and you have a Harry Potter fan in the circle, a cute letter from the wizarding school is a fun keepsake. 3. Drinking Hershey’s. Want to get everyone to give you the most perplexed looks? Just wash out an empty bottle of chocolate syrup and use it as your water bottle for the day. I bet this one would be especially fun at the gym. 4. Toilet art. Don’t worry, it’s nothing gross! Just tape a funny meme or image to the toilet lid and close the lid. Everyone who uses the toilet for the day will have to lift the lid first and get a giggle. 5. Free ticket. This one came from a teacher friend and it’s well-suited to kids who are starting to be good readers. Print and cut a bunch of tickets that say “Free Ticket: It isn’t good for anything. It’s just free.” 6. Googly eyes. Did you know you can get an enormous bag of different sized googly eyes? Seeing them affixed to everyday objects never fails to make me smile. I’ve even seen where people find ways to turn their vehicle headlights into eyes. Adorable!

Three Reasons Why Forgiveness Is Important If you’ve lived to be age 18, somebody or many persons would have either lied to you or about you, betrayed you, hurt your feelings, stole from you or otherwise done something where you felt wronged. The older you are, the more you would have experienced. How do you move forward after being treated that way and what about your feelings towards that spouse, boyfriend, best friend, sibling, teacher or even boss? It’s not always easy and sometimes we wear our hurt and anger like a badge. Or we might carry it around like a huge sack on our backs so that anyone who gets in our way, even if they did not cause the pain in the first place, gets the brunt of our anger, resentment or frustration. The good news is that forgiveness is an option! Here are a few reasons why it’s so important: • We all make mistakes and we want to be forgiven too. None of us is perfect and the golden rule suggests that we do unto others what we would like done to us.
11
It is unreasonable to expect others to be forgiving and tolerant of us while we do not extend the same courtesy. • It frees you up from the toxic burden of bitterness. Walking around carrying grudges is bad for our mental, emotional and physical health. So is constantly re-living the wrongs done to us. Doing that leaves us more prone to stress, headaches and high blood pressure. We need to let some things go and move on with our lives because we will be the one suffering mostly. • It is a sign of strength. The more we can forgive, it shows a depth of character and strength because it is not always an easy thing to do. Doing the right thing repeatedly, makes us better persons. So while that person might have wronged you and you have every right to be upset, staying angry or unforgiving hurts you more. It’s okay to tell them how you feel and it’s okay to choose to maintain boundaries with that person, but forgiving them is a gift to yourself and gives you peace of mind.

Chapter 12: Getting to Know Bobby The Friday dinner meeting may have been at a formal location, but the conversation was anything but, as the other guests were Bobby’s pals and fellow businessmen. The way they talked about their work was a bit of an education for me. They even directed some questions toward me, but whether it was a subtle way to investigate my origins or a polite move to make me feel comfortable I don’t know. Either way, they looked shocked at my responses. Not what they expected from hired company, I guess. Once we got back to the house, Bobby told me that he enjoyed my company and that he would be gone most of the day tomorrow. He said I should ask Henry for anything I need, and that I was welcome to leave for the day and return when he was scheduled to get back. I knew I wasn’t going anywhere. At 6 pm the next evening, Bobby returned right on schedule. “Hi Bobby, how was your day?” I asked as I made my way into the sitting room. My question seemed to take him by surprise. He eventually answered that he was feeling a bit tired and suggested take-out for dinner. Once our food arrived, Henry set up the dinner table for us. I was prepared to keep the chitchat going as we ate, but Bobby turned out to be quite the conversationalist himself. After dinner he, asked to continue chatting over drinks in the sitting room and I gladly joined him.

“You know Angel, not trying to be rude but I would have never taken you for a private escort and dancer,” Bobby said. “The way you speak and dress doesn’t scream that profession. Most girls in that business seem to prefer walking around half naked. Do you mind sharing your story with me?” Since his question and interest in me seemed sincere, I decided he could handle the whole story. I told him how I practically had to raise myself. I mentioned my college classes and my plans to make enough by graduation to leave the club open my own store. I even shared how my paper had earned me a presenter spot at the conference in a few days. The only thing I held back was David because I didn’t want him to cancel my time. Completing this job would give me the cash I need to get out this business. Bobby shared with me that he was his parents’ only child. They weren’t rich but they saved all his life so they could pay for his college. After graduation, he joined the firm that he now owns because he bought out the previous owners fifteen years ago. His only regret is that his work-a-holic tendencies drove away his wife, who took their daughter when she left him. He sends money for her apart from child support and visits the daughter as much as he can, but his ex wife seems to be poisoning her against him.

In case you aren’t up to date on the wizarding world, this is film two of five for the series of Harry Potter prequels, which follow Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a 1920s-era zoologist who specializes in magical creatures. In this installment, we meet a bunch more characters, including a much younger Dumbledore (Jude Law). Knowing Newt’s skill with magical creatures including the obscurus, a parasite that all but destroyed New York City in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Dumbledore sends Newt to track down Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller). The young wizard survived the destruction his obscurus caused at the end of that movie, and has since learned that he can control it, making the pair the most dangerous magical weapon known. We also learn more about the preVoldemort baddie, Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). Potter fans may remember that Grindelwald was an earlier advocate of the “wizards first,” mentality. He breaks free from his wizard jailers in the opening scenes of this movie, and it turns out that Grindelwald also wants to track down Credence and his obscurus, presumably so that he can use them for his own destructive purposes. Newt’s will-they-won’t-they romantic interest Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) appears in this film as well, 13
having been promoted to auror, which is kind of like a magical sheriff. Since she started hunting for Credence back in the previous movie, she’s well ahead of the others, and knows that he’s been traveling Europe with a magical circus. But guess what? There are even more characters introduced who are also looking for Credence! There were so many that I lost track partway through, but the important things to remember are that Credence, as an adoptee, doesn’t know his magical roots; and that the wizarding world is obsessed with “pure bloods,” or those wizarding families who have the clearest lineage of magical abilities and haven’t intermarried with non-magical people. All this works up to a very dramatic conclusion, a rally where Grindelwald stands up and shares his seer vision of what looks like World War II. Using classic scare tactics, Grindelwald makes the case for why non-magical people can’t be trusted. After way too many people join him, including Credence, it’s Grindelwald who finally reveals the secret of who Credence was born and as a fan, I’m in total denial. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is available on DVD and BluRay.

Dr. Tattersall: ‘Sailing is in my blood’ Numerous young persons have told me that they’re ‘too old to exercise.’ By contrast, Dr. Robin Tattersall, just shy of his 89th birthday, is still sailing and winning. On Sunday, Dr. Tattersall who has sailed in more BVI Spring Regatta’s than anyone else, collected another award and a free pass to next year’s 49th edition. “This is very special,” the 1984 BVI Olympian said. “I never thought I’d be doing this at this age. God, I’m going to be 90 next year. But they have given me another free pass (for winning Bareboat three by putting up five bullets), so I have to come back next year.” The victory, the retired plastic surgeon noted, was not of his own volition and credited his ‘fantastic team’ for the role they played in it. “I had such a wealth of experience,” he pointed out. “All I had to do is sail the boat. I didn’t have to think about tactics or anything else. Everybody else did that or trim, because I really had some fantastic people. I just had to keep it in the groove and kept the boat sailing fast.” Dr. Tattersall said his boat Diva, a 1930 modified 30 square meter that’s also his age, is being resurrected from Hurricane Irma and will be in the regatta next year. He sailed it in just about every BVI Spring Regatta through 2015. “I hope to get to sail her again, because I want to show these young kids who have her now, how I used
to sail so I’m hoping to get another sail in her at some point,” he said, noting all the rigs and hulls were damaged during Irma. “They’ve done a wonderful job. Chad Lettsome and his crew, they want to keep the boat racing when it’s 100 years old (2030), which will be not too long. It’s the same age as me.” Dr. Tattersall, a two times Olympian, who was on the BVI’s inaugural journey to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984 and made his second appearance in Barcelona in 1992, said living in the BVI has kept him going in sailing, when asked what he attributes his longevity in the sport to as well as not being in the frozen north. “The freedom of just being out with the winds and the waves,” he fondly reflected on his passion. “I did my first racing over 80 years ago. I can remember sailing before walking. My father was a sailor and my earliest recollections are of sailing. So, it’s there—sailing is in my blood. I’m not one of these hot shot sailors. I just go out and have fun.” In addition to sailing, for his 80th birthday, Dr. Tattersall competed in the 2500th anniversary of the Athens Marathon, on the original course from Marathon to Athens, run by Pheidippiddes in 490 B.C to declare victory by the tiny Athenian army over the Persian hordes.
