Eggshells Into Earth Did you know that you can turn everyday kitchen scraps and other items that would normally be thrown away into valuable garden soil? The age-old practice of composting harnesses the natural decomposition process to reduce trash and transform what otherwise might be trash into useful nourishing soil for your plants. You can learn more about this process and how to incorporate it into your daily life at a Compost 101 workshop being held by Green VI in partnership with the Department of Waste Management and the Department of Agriculture. The free three-hour course is being offered at several locations around the territory and will be taught by composting experts visiting from Cornell University.
Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.
The workshop visits Virgin Gorda first this Saturday, with a morning session at the Bregado Flax School from 9am and an afternoon session at 2pm at Hog Heaven. On Sunday, catch the course in Jost Van Dyke at the JVD Primary School from 1pm. Then on the Monday public holiday, the course will be offered at the Francis Lettsome Primary School in Greenland. Attendees at the school workshops will also get a chance to check out that school’s garden. There will also be a special composting workshop for farmers at the Department of Agriculture in Paraquita Bay on Wednesday 12th March from 2pm. For more information, contact Green VI’s Garden Project Director, Nea Talbot, at 340-9335 or email nea@greenvi.org.

Whether it’s online shopping, fancy cigars, or alcoholic beverages, most people have an indulgence of choice. I’m not ashamed to say that mine is sweet treats. Yep, I’m that sucker that will almost always say yes to bake sales, Girl Scout cookies, and whatever other sugary goodies you happen to be offering. But indulgences aren’t supposed to be a regular thing, they’re meant for special occasions. Like the majority of the fortunate folks living here in the BVI, I have access to “indulgences” of some form or another pretty much every day of the year. I won’t bother mentioning the various detriments to health or pocketbook that come with overdoing each of these otherwise minor vices. As Ash Wednesday was yesterday, however, it seems like a good time to talk about what happens way before those more serious consequences: taking our goodies for granted. Maybe you’re with me. You know this treat, whatever it is for you, is supposed to be enjoyed, savored even, but you have somehow wound up partaking mindlessly and with little to no Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

gratefulness. What is a person seeking to cultivate some extra appreciation to do? Just give it up. That’s what I’m doing. Not forever, of course. Just for Lent. On the off chance you don’t know about Lent, this is the 40 days ahead of Easter Sunday when some Christians get ready for that solemn holiday by fasting, giving alms or practicing self-denial. Why 40 days? Scripture says that Christ spent 40 days and 40 nights fasting in the desert after he was baptized. In six weeks or so when Easter rolls around, I’ll have an extra reason to celebrate because I’ll once again get to enjoy a sweet treat, or maybe two. In the context of crucifixion and resurrection, any small sacrifice I might make is paltry indeed, but that’s the whole point of Lent: you give up something that you will miss so that you have a chance to reflect on how little these things should really matter all year round. Are you giving up anything for Lent? Let us know over on the Limin Times Facebook page

She Devil
An attractive female who is capable of manipulating men into getting their way – Urban Dictionary
Chapter 7: The Job I could get used to this if Troy would just leave his wife and baby mama was out of the picture. I can speed up the process for him just like I pushed Angel out of the way to get what I want, Britney thought to herself. She was over at Troy’s place cleaning up after they had dinner while Troy took a shower. From the kitchen she thought she heard a knock on the front door, but when she went to check it out there was no one there. Maybe I’m hearing things, she thought to herself. Unfortunately for Britney, it was a real knock, designed to send her to the front door so an intruder could enter through the unlocked back door. Troy’s home, which he inherited from his grandparents, was in a nice and relatively safe neighborhood. Troy’s estranged wife thought of it fondly, they had shared the home when their marriage was at its best. The intruder waited until Britney was up in the bedroom with Troy to make himself known. He demanded cash and jewelry, firing off a single shot to make sure they wouldn’t try his patience. Once the intruder received what he’d asked for he gun-butted Troy and roughed up Britney a little before he made a run for it. Britney grab the phone and called 911 and went to help contain Troy’s blood that was coming out his head. ************** It’s been several days since the break-in and things around the club have been edgy. Da Don 11
hired additional security just in case Troy’s intruder came to the club for a round two. Britney on her good days brought in bag, but her attitude was her down fall. Lately, she seems to be more concerned with who Tory interacts with than making money. It’s Friday night and pay day so you know the club will be rammed tonight. I told David that I didn’t mind if he stayed home tonight if watching me work would be uncomfortable, but he said he was cool and that he planned to meet friends. I really like David and I’m hoping whatever we have will outlast my club days when I make a new like for myself. Throughout the night I checked in with David and he would always chase me to make my money and not to worry about him. When it was time for my feature, I made sure my outfit was on point and I did some really sexy moves just because David’s eyes were on me. I wanted my act to be sexy and not cheap, so I treated the pole like my Olympic event, and my pole skills were top notch because of it. At the end of the night I was on the floor with the late hangers, including David and some of the girls, when I caught Britney staring at David. I decided not to cause a scene, even though I hated thinking of her even breathing the same air as David. If she thinks I was mad before, let her try to make a move on David. Her days are numbered.

Am I Over Re-acting? Dear Koren, My boyfriend and I had an argument around Christmastime and I said we should end the relationship. About two weeks later, we made up. Now I see his ex has a picture of herself with my boyfriend and their child on Facebook. He says it shouldn’t bother me and that they took the photo when he went to take a gift for the little boy. Now how am I supposed to trust him if he runs back to her every time we have a problem? –Current Girlfriend Dear Current Girlfriend, Seeing that photograph must have come as a surprise to you. Well, the sad truth is that if you end things with someone, that person is back on the open market and becomes fair game for anyone else. I suppose we would all like to think that when we end a relationship, the person is sitting at home pinLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

ing for us, but while some might, others don’t. You therefore cannot hold him responsible for what he did after you ended the relationship with him. Also, if he indicated that he went to take a gift for the child, then maybe that’s all it was. She posted the photo and might have had her own reasons for doing so, and I think we can agree that she really should not have posted his image without his permission. Please accept that he has to be in his child’s life, which means he will continue to be in contact with this particular ex-girlfriend. Going forward, it sounds like the two of you have some better communicating to do to decide what you want from each other and what level of commitment you are willing to make, as well as what boundaries there should be with others.
If you watched the Oscars, you might have seen that a comic book movie beat out Disney for best animated feature this year. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is the first time since the days of Tobey Maguire playing Spidey that I’ve enjoyed a Spider-man movie. As you might guess from the title, this time Peter Parker and the rest live in a multi-verse, that is, alternate universes are A Thing. But as the movie starts, we don’t really see that yet. Neither does Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), a mild-mannered Brooklyn teen whose parents, police officer Jefferson (Brian Tyree Henry), and nurse Rio (Luna Lauren Velez), send him to a fancy prep school even though it means he is away from home during the week. Unlike the many orphan iterations of the character, Miles is close with both his parents throughout the story, and they’re an important anchor for his identity. Not adjusting well at his new school, Miles occasionally sneaks off campus to visit his uncle Aaron (Mahershala Ali). Evidently the black sheep of the family, Aaron, rather than scolding Miles and sending him back to his dormitory, is the type of uncle who 13
takes him to an abandoned subway station and even helps him spray paint a bi glorious mural. Naturally, this is the place where a radioactive spider bites Miles. There are some great moments as Miles starts to develop special Spider-Man powers, but the movie really takes off when Miles discovers the tool to travel between universes and he meets some of the other Spideys, including Spider Gwen, a fellow student at his school; Spider-Ham, a talking pig; a Humphrey Bogart-sounding noir Spider-Man; and Peni Parker, a Sailor-Moon-type spider heroine. Each alternate universe character brings their own look, presumably to match their universe. Trouble is, the alternate Spideys can’t safely hang around in Miles’ universe for too long. So they all team up against some nasty villains, notably The Kingpin (Leiv Schreiber) and Dr. Octopus (Kathryn Hahn), in order to help heal the rift between universes and get everyone back to where they belong. I can’t wait to see what Miles/Spider-Man does next. Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is available for streaming on iTunes. Vol. 30, 47 / Mar 7 - Mar 13, 2019
Yes, They’re On The Road Again As part of the 19 races in the territory over varying distances, the 2019 road racing season kicked off over the weekend with 44 participants competing in the Hauteville 5K Series that runs through June 1st. That event will be followed by the Ceres Juices 10K Series from June 22nd – to November 9th; then the Mourant College Classic 2 Miles Series from September 14th – November 2nd and culminates with the 14th Deloite-Ogier BVI Half Marathon on November 30th. Between them on April 14th, will be the 33.4K Tortola Torture., an Ultra Marathon The 5K and 10K Series, will make different tour stops around Tortola, with the kick off and ending in Road Town, and includes other scenic stops in Carrot Bay, Beef Island—with a finish at water’s edge on Long Bay Beach—and Paraquita Bay. On Saturday, Julius Farley and Katrina Lindsay were the leading male and female participants in the Hauteville 5K Series opener that started and ended at the A. O. Shirley Grounds, with a trek around Road Town. “I was concentrating more on a slower pace than usual because I’m trying to practice for the longer races, so I stayed back a bit and developed along the way,” said Farley after covering the 3.1 miles course in 19 minutes and 01 seconds. “I was able to pass the leader around Island Roots on Main Street. I knew once I stayed close to him, I’d take him in the end.”
Jermaine Ricketts didn’t expect his second placed finish and was timed in 19:45. “I surprised myself too,” he said. “I didn’t train except two times with Julius and think I would do better but when I saw him come in, I think he was second or third. I didn’t think I was second till I reached on the track.” Lindsay, the top woman who was seventh overall of the 44 participants and finished in 20:04, said it was a good first run of the season. “I was hoping to get under 20 minutes and was a few seconds off that, which was a bit disappointing,” she said. “But, felt good. I was in a group that pushed me to run today so that was nice. I was happy. Training has been going good, carrying on from last season with a little bit of extra mileage than what I was used to when I was just training for the track, so I think that paid off.” Rosmond “Rose” Johnson, second in 23:50, said she was a little scared of the race. “To me, it came up a little sudden and I didn’t do any training,” she said. “I chipped my heel and couldn’t put shoes on for about two weeks then I put shoes on, went out for a run and said I’ll give it a try. I stopped a few times and walked and finished second. It was a good race.”
