Back To School Fever It’s that time of the year where summer is winding down and it’s time for our children to head back to school. I don’t think that there’s another parent more excited for back to school than I am. Back to school means that by the time my children have a long day at school, get home and finish their homework, have dinner and prepare for bed, then there is no energy left to fight me for a later bed time. I believe I can speak for all parents when I say we have a sense of relief when the running around ends to make sure our children have their uniforms and all the right tools for learning and they actually go back to class.
Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.
While some of us are busy making final preparations for our offspring, as tradition goes, various organizations are holding back to school events for the kids. Kicking things off on Saturday, Hire BVI is hosting a Back 2 School Fun Day, 10am–3pm at the Noel Lloyd Park. Bring your child(ren) out so they can receive free school supplies and health screening. Enjoy fun and games and win prizes also. Entertainment will be provided by ABM and DJ Marz. There will also be food and drinks on sale. Also on Saturday, the 9th District is having their Back 2 School Fiesta at the Virgin Gorda Recreational Grounds, 10am. There will be free school supplies, games, motivational speakers and much more.

Chris Stokes has done it again. No no no, I’m not obsessed with the man, I swear. I’m only interested in his work. So here goes another film option you can check out if you have some free time or looking for something to watch. In We Belong Together, a recovering alcoholic college professor is trying to get his life back together. He meets a seductive new student who he eventually realizes is crazy. On the first day of class Professor Thomas (Charles Malik Whitfield) meets his new student Tracy (Draya Michelle). At first glance you can actually sense his thoughts about her by his facial expression. An incident in the campus parking lot then brings the pair closer. As the film continues, Professor Thomas’ assistant, Leslie (Jessica Vanessa DeLeon), appears to notice that Tracy has a thing for Thomas. In Tracy’s mind, Leslie is a threat and she has to get her out of the picture. Tracy works as a part-time waitress at one of Professor Thomas’ favorite places to eat. One night when he comes to eat, he offers to drop Tracy home since her shift is over. This is just the window she needs to get closer to the professor and it works. The two eventually form a private relationship, but nothing too serious for him. 11
At one point, Thomas visits his daughter Brittany (Cassidey Fralin), and Tracy follows him secretly because he told her she could not go with him. She doesn’t like the interaction that Thomas shares with his ex-wife either. When Thomas tells Tracy they are over and she has to leave his place, she doesn’t take it too well. As a matter of fact, she never leaves when he heads for the hospital. He then receives a call saying that his ex-wife is in the hospital. While in the hospital with his daughter and former mother-in-law, his daughter leaves her mother’s room and when she returns, she informs her dad that she met Tracy and she told her that she was her stepmom. The next day, Brittany’s grandmother goes with her to the park and while Brittany plays with some friends she knew, she suddenly disappears. When Professor Thomas goes to the police, he tells them about Tracy and her behavior. At first the detectives take it for a joke but a deeper investigation into Tracy leads them to find out the shocking truth about her. What is Tracy’s truth and did she have a hand in the disappearance of Brittney and Thomas’ exwife accident? We Belong Together can be streamed on Netflix. Vol. 31, 19 / Aug 22 - Aug 28, 2019

Chapter 15: Heartbreaks and Sorrows “Hi, my name is Elizabeth and we received a call informing us that our best friend Bethany was admitted,” Liz spoke to a nurse at the front desk at the hospital with Sarah standing next to her. “Nurse Jenny will speak with you in a moment, you can join her other family and friends in the waiting room,” the nurse replied. “Mrs. G, what happened?” Sarah asked Beth’s mom as both ladies walked into the waiting room. “Apparently, Beth was shot, Derek went down to the station to give a statement, we are all waiting for an update on her condition,” Beth’s mom replied. Four hours later. “Mr. & Mrs. Gerrade,” a doctor called out after walking in the hospital waiting room. Both of Beth’s parents stood up. **************** Elizabeth’s thoughts. Ten days ago we lost our dear Bethany and it’s been seventy-two hours since I’ve been in my dark room, just me and these bottles of rum. I still can’t believe she is gone. How could somebody be so evil to take another’s life is what I don’t understand. That night at the hospital when the doctor told us she was gone forever, I damn near shot him for pulling a sick prank like that but it was the reality none of us were ready for. I’m glad we spent some of her final hours with her. Poor Mrs. G. lost her daughter and grandchild she never got to hold at the same time. Each day I made mental notes to call Sarah to see is she was holding up any better than I was, but I just couldn’t seem to get myself together to move. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
I doubt she was. All I could do is drown my sorrows in these bottles. Sarah’s thoughts. I’m not sure which hurts me more, the pain from loosing one of my best friends or the empty house I live in. My husband didn’t have the decency to rush home to be by my side when I called to tell him about Beth. He said he was busy and hung up. God bless, I took some days off at work to mourn but it seems like I’m mourning my husband too. I’ve had it, I’m filing for divorce. I was so wrapped up in grief I nearly missed the called from my investigator. After trying to reach me for the last twenty-four hours, he asked to meet. Seeing that I was not in the mood to be around people, I asked him to come to my home. After hanging up I dragged myself to my master bathroom for a shower and tried to make myself presentable. “Good day Mrs. Nolan, how are you holding up since the passing of your friend?” Detective Nolan asked as we sat at my bar island. I mentioned to him a few days after Beth’s death that he needed to give me some more days while I bury her. “No good, but I’m trying,” I replied. “Well I don’t want to give you any worse news but I’m afraid that I have really bad news,” Detective Jim replied. He handed her an envelope and continued to speak, “It seems like Mr. Nolan is living a double life. He has another family. I confronted the woman about him and she confessed that they have been together for two years. They recently had a daughter. 12

Malone Reveals Low Moment Before High We don’t even have a faint understanding of what an athlete goes through. We only hear about the results and oftentimes, have our myriad opinions on why they should have performed better or focus just on the win. Track and field in particular, is a lonely sport. Everything relies on you. You live with the highs and lows and there are a lot of lows. Before Chantel Malone struck Pan Am Games Long Jump gold on August 6 for example, she hit one of her lowest moments, which she revealed on last Thursday’s Sports Beat Magazine on 90.9 FM, when I asked her to give an insight of the challenges she faced after jumping a world leading mark of 6.90m (21’11”) in May, then injuring her hamstring. “I got to my lowest point during the Trinidad and Tobago Track and Field trials on July 27,” Malone said of the event 10 days before striking gold. “I went there with the mindset to execute and do everything I was doing in practice because I was ready. I had been doing great in practice, went out there and it was like 6.0-something, with 6.20-something my highest mark at that meet.” Malone said that Tahesia Harrigan-Scott was with her and she can’t put into words the feeling that overtook her. “I told her that my chest feels very weird and I felt like I wanted to throw up or something—this doesn’t make sense,” she stated. “I had doping con-
trol—for jumping 6.20 something, like really? —after that, we walked over to the hotel, I went downstairs, Tahesia was still in the room. I just needed a moment to let it out and cry. I called my Aunt and in talking, I told her I just want to talk to my Granny. She was the one if I was going through something, she would talk to me and tell me stop stressing myself out, do what you have to do and be done with it. I couldn’t talk to she because she’s gone now. I told my Aunt that and I broke down crying.” Malone said she felt so badly, it was like her body had seized up. “I was actually scared because I was in the gym alone, so I told her I’d call her back,” Malone said. “I spoke to my dad, then went upstairs and told Tahesia I literally had a panic attack and that was scary. I started panicking again and my whole body freaked out. Taheisa massaged me so I could relax. There was a lot of stuff going on. I’m working this hard, doing all I had to do and nothing was going right, as it was a matter of dealing with my shoes. I’m contracted by Puma, but my feet weren’t adjusting to them. In that moment, I made the decision that I’ll have to lose my contract to stay sane.” Malone added: “I went to Pan Ams, jumped in the shoes I was comfortable with and I got gold. I hope to improve and prove my worth.”
