In case you have been living under a rock as well as on one, HBO mega-hit Game of Thrones aired its final episode this week. I have seen the first seven seasons and I’d say the show has had some really excellent moments, but I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll bother with this last season. One wonderful thing about living on a relatively isolated island is not feeling obligated at all to watch even the most popular of pop culture phenomena. Think about it: What’s the harm? Missing out on some water-cooler chatter? At the moment, folks in the offices I’ve been passing through are talking about the drought, the impending hurricane season, and a fascinating variety of local political issues. I would by far prefer to chat about any of those things than anything that might be airing on HBO. (Sidenote: To be clear, I will 100 percent be reading that final book, provided author George R R Martin ever does finish it.) Anyway, it’s not like I don’t know what happens. Thanks to social media, I already have a pretty good handle on the major plot points, including who wins and who dies. A lot of

the memes are even funny without having seen a single scene from this season. I know that the excuse of living on an island works from prior experience. Super Bowl? I can’t tell you who played the last one, much less who won. World Cup Soccer? What year do they do that one? The latest comic book hero blockbuster film? I might have seen the poster outside UP’s, but that’s about it. No one has batted an eye at my being utterly clueless about these cultural phenomena. Maybe my friends overseas just feel sorry for my cluelessness, but I feel like they’re always more surprised that I don’t have some kind of television service at home than they are that I am missing out on one particular show or movie. It’s probably not about me and my excuses at all. I’d guess it’s more likely that with the rise of various streaming services and user-created content, there are fewer and fewer single shows that will really be seen by everyone. But at the end of the day, variety is the spice of life. Is it really such a bad thing if we all just watch what we like, even if they are all different things?

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 3: Demons
Sarah got home once again to an empty home last night and decided that she had enough. Her agenda for her lunch hour today was going to be hiring a private detective. She loved her husband and couldn’t understand why he was treating her this way. She did everything that she felt a man would need to be happy. She kept fit and her appearance was on point. She was educated and had a well paying job. She even cooked three days of the week for him and he was still absent from her life. “Oh Brian, why are you treating me this way?” she thought to herself as she waited to speak to the detective. Sarah told the detective every detail of Brian’s schedule including his gym days and gave him two pictures of her husband. She requested that the detective not talk to him directly – just follow him and report back to her. She was praying it was not another woman and that he was really busy but knowing how his eyes were wandering, she figured she had already known her demon without confirmation. In two weeks she would find out the truth and hoped she had the strength to deal with the results. ************ “Dang, it feels like I just gone to bed,” Beth said out loud to herself as she reached over to shut off her alarm. “Why do I need a job again?” she continued talking. After getting home around 2AM, she felt as if she never got enough rest. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
As usual she had a wild night with some random guy. She never sticks around, just handles her business and bounces. Growing up, Beth never had a father figure¬¬ – yea her dad was still with her mom but he was too busy running between different women while her mom worked. She was never really taught how to love, so she thought the men showing her affection was close enough. After checking her messages, Beth headed to the shower to get ready for her day. She couldn’t help but think on her little freaky night with Pablo. She met him while at the club and after flirting and dancing the night away, she followed him home. Pablo was single – or he appeared to be. He lived alone, there were no family photos or even photos of him on the walls. As Beth walked into her office building she saw a man that she never seen before. “He’s looking all kind of right, I’ll find out if he needs help”, she thought to herself. After directing him to the correct department, Beth stood up staring at him as he walked away. In the middle of her work, she heard a soft knock on her door, and when she looked up it was the gentleman that she helped in the lobby earlier. He found out where she was located and came to thank her for her help and to request her presence for drinks later. She happily accepted and thought to herself she will be having more than drinks with him. 12

Softball Makes Post Irma Comeback With so many of the territory’s sportsmen and sports women having action, it’s quite easy to forget that the sporting landscape hasn’t returned to normalcy since the passage of destructive hurricane Irma. Softball is one of those sports. Ironically, Softball was the last sport to have competition with the Raymundo “Mundo” Boynes Tournament that finished on September 3, days before destructive hurricane Irma struck on Sept 6. That tournament attracted men’s and women’s teams from St. Thomas and St. Croix. In fact, it was Los Llacos of St. Croix, who clawed the BVI All Stars, 9-3 at the E. Walwyn Brewley Softball Park, to win the inaugural Raymundo “Mundo” Boynes Men’s Softball crown and complete a coveted Triple Crown, after pulling off similar victories at home and in St. Thomas. On the Women’s side, St. Thomas’ Griffith Park Massive fended off That’s Ya Problem for a narrow 4-3 victory. Since then, Irma destroyed the E. Walwyn Brewley Softball Park and there have been no games. On Sunday afternoon however, the sport swung back to life with two organized games in a Sea Cows Bay League, marking the first post Irma organized action. While not many had known about the game, for the softball lovers, there’s more than just Sunday’s game, as a league is planned among the four teams through July. In the opening game played at the Roger Allen Hodge Park, Albion outslugged Parsons, 10-8. Eli
“Yampie” Nibbs was the winning pitcher with Jason “Mad” Fonseca, being tagged with the loss. Joseph Smith Sr. and Allen “Woodrow” Smith combined to lead Pleasant Valley to a 3-1 victory over Cherry Ghut. Dariel Robinson was the losing hurler. “Softball at the moment, we had to try to bring it alive, at least in Sea Cows Bay to lift up the youth and get some kind of games going because everybody’s looking somewhere to go, so we just had to put something together— me my sisters and brothers to make it happen,” event coordinator Sylvester “Bucker” Johnson explained. “We have four teams in the league and the first game went alright. There was a nice game between Pleasant Valley and Cherry Ghut and we happened to come out the loser.” Johnson said the league will run through July and games will be played on Sundays starting at 2 p.m. “What I feel good about is that the guys came out to play and everyone’s interested and coming to play,” he said. With the Poker Run scheduled for Sunday, organizers have scheduled one game for Saturday at the Roger Allen Hodge Park. Cherry Ghut will face Parsons Saturday at 3 p.m. On Saturday, June 1, Albion and Pleasant Valley will square off at 3 p.m. There might not be a BVI Softball Association League, but the boys in Sea Cows Bay are ensuring that the game lives on, featuring players from all over the island playing on teams in the surrounding communities.
