Hailing from Virgin Gorda, Pure Mass Band (PMB) is five members strong ranging from 18 to 21. The band was established in 2016 and has since performed for several events in the BVI and USVI. Although they are still an ‘up and coming’ band, PMG’s biggest achievement so far is performing during the Virgin Islands Rising Stars Series hosted by Steve Parillon. The band’s ultimate goal is to be able to entertain all ages and sing different genres of music. De’Vaugh ‘Sprauvo’ Sprauve, one half of the vocal team, says his passion for music came from listening and watching his older cousin Raul ‘Jougo’ Sprave perform. “The impact he has on the Virgin Islands Music Industry and the way his lyrics gravitates his audiences, it’s what’s influenced me on this path I’ve taken,” he said. Other than being a member of the band, De’Vaugh is also a father and works with Speedy’s. Stephano ‘Phano’ Paul, who also sings, credits Dante ‘Pascal’ Wattley as his inspiration. “He has given me advice and shared techniques,” Phano shared. Other than music, his love for basketball led him to make a memorable basketball debut in St. Thomas playing with his school Bregado Flax Educational Centre. He also

formed his own basketball team on Virgin Gorda – Warriors. The drummer of the band, Jiliani Lennard, is following in his father, Paul Grant’s steps – a well-known musician. “My love for drumming has grown over the past years as I would rush home from school just to practice on my drums and eventually my friends would join me after school and before you know it we became a band and attracted many ages just listening to us after school as our practice room was at my father’s bar, ‘Pablo’s’ on the road leading to the school,” Jiliani mentioned. When the spotlight goes off, Jiliani is a father and works at 5 Star Construction. Keyboardist Keitroy Smith’s music career began at church. At an early age he backed up his adopted sisters during their Sunday morning selections. He practices daily and learns the chords by air and puts them together. His love for music and practicing gives him self-motivation. Nicolas Thomas, also known as Bobby, is the bass guitar player and his passion for music began after hearing Rayne ‘Rainman’ Chesterfield of Jammerz HP perform. “Just by watching the way he enjoyed playing his own bass lines was fascinating for me and that’s how my love for music and playing bass began,” Bobby explained. “Music, to me, is the art of taking words and melodies, and amorously putting them together that in turn form a masterpiece that appeals not only to the ear, but also to the heart,” Bobby continued.

Devious Minds Chapter 6
“Ladies, did any of you give any thought to my suggestion I made a few weeks ago?” Patrick asked his friends. “What suggestion? I can’t remember half the ish that comes out your mouth,” Theresa said to Patrick. “Glad to know but like I was saying, what if we take down each person that has ever got in the way of us climbing the social ladder or stop us from getting what we truly want?” Patrick asked the ladies. “But isn’t that illegal?” Diana asked not wanting to ever see the inside of a jail cell. “Oh shut up, you always worry about the wrong things and I never said kill anyone or do anything illegal. I’m just simply saying it’s time we stop having people push us over and go for what we want and deserve,” Patrick countered. “And how exactly are we suppose to do that?” Diamond asked. Patrick simply explained to the ladies that it’s just a matter of not being a pushover at work. “When our supervisors want to take all the credit for their hard work. Speak up. Don’t be afraid to take risk,” and he reasoned as he told Diamond she would need a make over. “Eff you trick! Nothing wrong with my wardrobe,” Diamond spit at Patrick. The entire room stared at her. Breaking the silence Destiny said, “I mean sis, as a fashion designer you really don’t look the part. As a matter of fact, not even grandma wears those types of clothes.” “All we are trying to say is, wear your clothes, Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
change what’s on the outside not what’s on the inside,” Diana told her. Diamond pondered what her sister and Patrick had just told her. “I mean it won’t kill to wear my own clothes or be a bit more into fashion. I can sell more of my designs and also get people to notice them by wearing them,” she thought to herself. “But guys, I’m not a fashionista. I love designing more than dressing in fashion,” Diamond said to the group. “Girl nobody said anything about being a fashionista. Simply change your look, wear some of your designs. Maybe the head boss at your store will love what she sees and you won’t have to go through that witch Jessica anymore. Have you ever thought about selling your line to a high end retailer? Imagine being ranked among the greats. You got potential girl. Why settle for mediocre?” Theresa gave Diamond a mouthful as everyone else shook their heads in agreement with her. While everyone was engaged in random conversations, Diamond sat in silence pondering some more about changing her look and wearing some of her designs. Truth is, she loved drawing clothes but she wasn’t really into keeping up with fashion. She was comfortable being invisible because to her it meant less attention and stress in her life. She really did want to sell her designs and make a bigger salary to be comfortable in life though. Theresa and Patrick bid farewell until tomorrow morning when they would leave for work together. The triplets cleaned up after the gang and retired into their separate rooms. 12

International Flavor For 14th BVI Sunrise Half Marathon Saturday’s 14th Deloitte-Ogier Deloitte-Ogier BVI Sunrise Half Marathon will have its largest international flavor since 2010. The Northwest Company— parent company of Riteway—is bringing 75 of the more than 100 visiting runners. Northwest participants expected from Alaska, Canada, Guam, Cayman Islands and Barbados, will join their BVI counterparts, all of whom are raising monies for various charities in their respective communities. Riteway is expected to raise $10,000 for the BVI Diabetics Association. With a 6 a.m. start, the 2-laps race will begin and end at the A. O. Shirley Grounds. The course will take runners to Sea Cows Bay with a turnaround in the area of the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School. The stretch of road from Prospect Reef to the well in Sea Cows Bay will be closed between 5:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Traffic heading east from beyond Sea Cows Bay, will be diverted over the hill by the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School to connect with the Paul Wattley Road. Traffic from Road Town going beyond Prospect Reef, will be diverted to the Paul Wattley Road. This 13.1 miles race is expected to be the fastest since the course record of 1 hour 07 minutes and 38 seconds was established by New Zealand’s Michael Aish in 2010. For the first time in its history, the BVI will have a participant among those contesting for the $500 prize. BVI Marathon record holder Ras Alula Nagarit will make his debut and be among those upfront
vying for the top spot, including Clif Struiken, Neil Riley and others from among the over 100 visiting runners. Nagarit is expected to improve on the BVI Half Marathon record of 1 hour 34 minutes and 45 seconds set by Zebalon McLean in 2011. New male and female champions will be crowned as defending champions, St. Lucia’s Michael Biscette and St. Martin’s Cecilia Mobuchon—who established the women’s record of 1 hour 25 minutes and 40 seconds in finishing fourth overall in 2018—will not contest this year’s event. There will also be a battle among corporate teams, who will try to dethrone Collas Crill for the Corporate Relay Cup and break their record of 1:40.26. The relay team of Cate Barbour and Neil Riley, will seek to retain their title and improve on their 1:34.42 mark from a year ago. “This year’s race is shaping up to be a fantastic event,” Race Director Kay Reddy said. “We’ll have a large international field of runners, see the BVI’s very own Ras Alula Nagarit making his debut and the likes of Clif Struiken and Neil Riley who have been dominating the local series, challenging for the top spots. The women’s race is wide open as the defending champion Cecelia Mobuchon from St. Martin won’t be here and St. Thomas’ Ruth Ann David—a four times winner—has another engagement, so we await to see who will take the reins.”
