Christen Glasgow aka ‘DJ Marz’ is a college student who spent most of his life in the BVI. He is part of the 2018 Elmore Stoutt graduating class, enjoys travelling and hanging with his girlfriend and friends. He is also a brand ambassador for CCT and 4reigner Designs. Marz likes to say he is superman – he’s Christen Glasgow by day and DJ Marz by night. “DJ Marz is a completely different person than Christen Glasgow, my controller and my MacBook are my mask,” Marz expressed. This June marks a year since he has been a DJ, and he credits DJs Dre and Bertrum for teaching him the basics in 2015 via ESHS Rams Radio Club. DJ Marz’ early passion was the bass guitar which he played for five years. “For as long I can remember, I was always fascinated with music. I loved listening to it and loved playing it even more,” said DJ Marz. “I instantly seized the opportunity to learn how to be a DJ and

joined the ESHS Rams Radio Club and became a DJ and on-air radio personality,” he continued. To prepare for a set, DJ Marz says he likes to start by gathering information on the type of event, so he can perceive the crowd’s age range and other demographical information. He then uses his findings to make sure the music matches. “I select songs based on the crowd’s reaction, the atmosphere and overall feel of the event,” Marz shared in explaining why he plays a particular record during his set. “My goal is to always keep people dancing, singing or at least nodding their heads,” he continued. Other than being a DJ, DJ Marz works and attends college full time. He is also the mentee of DJ Bertrum who is helping him to become versatile in the industry. He’s currently working with him at FUZE, learning production along with every day running of a radio station. In the months to come, he will continue to focus on school and obtaining his Bachelor’s in Finance and being an on-air radio personality that brings you those fresh new vibes. The ultimate goal is to become a household name in the Virgin Islands and possibly the Caribbean. To keep up with DJ Marz, you can find him on Instagram @djmarz–vi, Facebook @DJ Marz and Twitter @djmarzvi. For bookings, please email djmarz. vibookings@gmail.com. You can catch him every Friday night at Tropix Cocktail Bar, the Local Brand Pop-Up Shop on July 5th, the CT Summer Jam on July 19th and the Nouveau Royal dance recital on July 6th.

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 8: Sarah

Sarah was about to get up from her computer when her desk phone rang and stopped her. “This is Sarah,” she said. “Hi Sarah, I have a detective Jim on the line for you,” her secretary told her. “Thank you, please connect him,” Sarah said. “Detective Jim, I’m hoping this call means good news.” Sarah thought when she heard the call connect. “Hi Mrs. Nolan, yes I do, can you meet me at the corner café, I have a little bit of news and something to show you,” he told her. “Yes, is 2:30 good for you? ...thank you.” Sarah said and hang up the phone. “Hi Mrs. Nolan, I’ve saved a seat for us over this way,” the detective told Sarah. “So, what do you have for me?” Sarah asked him. Detective Jim took out a folder from his briefcase and passed it to Sarah. She opened the folder and scanned through the documents on top, then turned the page and saw some pictures of her husband. The pictures showed him entering a black vehicle and getting out at the airport and checking into a flight. Detective Jim also told Sarah that his investigation led him to know that Brian has been taking a flight to Boston and if she wants him to go further after him that he would need more money. She told him do what he must, money was not an issue, just make sure he came back with the right information. “Now Mrs. Nolan, I need you to understand if indeed there is bad news in Boston, I need you to be Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

ready, because I can’t be too sure, it can be a good friend but I overheard Brian talking on the phone with a woman. I know this because he told her “I can’t wait to see you beautiful”. In these cases, it’s always a woman,” Detective Jim told her. Those words sank Sarah’s chest. She phoned her secretary and cancelled all appointments for the rest of the day and let her know she won’t be back in. Sarah pulled up into her special parking spot at Nolan Enterprises and got out of her vehicle. It was 5pm so that meant most of the staff was going to leave now, especially since it was Friday. It’d been a while since she made her presence known there. Not only was she the owner’s wife, but she was also part owner, which meant no one could question her being there since her husband was not in. She once had her own office but since her time there wasn’t as much, she just used her husband office whenever she dropped in. Brian worked hard but Sarah made her own money and she was building her other business that she’s doing on her own. Sarah was greeted by fake smiles as she walked through the building. Some of these women wanted to walk in her shoes, but if they only knew the demon that came along with being married to Brian. Once inside his office Sarah closed the doors, the blinds were already shut, and sat at his computer. “Fool,” she thought to herself as she logged into her husband’s computer. The password was so obvious. Why did he make it so simple that anyone that knew him could log into it with the right guess. 12

Yup, you guessed it right! I’m sending you to watch yet again another chick flick. Hey! I’m a chick and we love these kinds of things. In Always Be My Maybe, childhood sweethearts Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) and Marcus (Randall Park) have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years. Over the years, both live in different worlds; Sasha goes on to be a celebrity chief and Marcus stays in their old San Francisco neighbourhood and works with his dad. At one point, Sasha gets engaged to fellow celebrity chef Brandon (Daniel Dae Kim), but they call it off when both receive an opportunity to advance themselves in life. When Sasha returns to her hometown to open a restaurant, she sees Marcus. Thanks to her assistant Veronica (Michelle Buteau), crossing each other’s paths happens. It is really hard to tell that Sasha still feels anything for Marcus at this moment because of the way she greets him after 15 years, but you could definitely tell that Marcus is happy to see her. After one of their conversations, Marcus invites Sasha to see his band play. It comes as a surprise to her that the band is still together, as they hadn’t been together since high school. Also, the 13

night of the performance, Sasha meets Jenny (Vivian Bang), Marcus’ girlfriend who seems to know a lot about her. At an event, Sasha meets Keanu Reeves (playing himself ) and they begin dating. She invites Marcus and his girlfriend to join them for a dinner date. When the party moves from the restaurant to Sasha’s place, things turn south real fast. Keanu and Marcus get into it and it also makes Sasha realize that’s not the kind of person she wants in her life. As the movie continues, somewhere, somehow Sasha and Marcus start dating. I swear to you I never saw it coming. It seems serious in the beginning as Sasha doesn’t miss any of Marcus’ performances and she even encourages him to want more for the band. The fire quickly goes out as it was set alight, because Sasha basically tells the press that Marcus is a nobody. Well that’s how Marcus sees it, but to me, personally she seemed proud to be dating a nonceleb like her. She was content with her regular guy. Marcus didn’t take the comment well and him and Sasha stopped talking again. Will Sasha and Marcus unite again, and will they work out their differences? Always Be My Maybe can be streamed on Netflix. Vol. 31, 11 / Jun 27 - Jul 3, 2019

New Recipe ‘Burning’ McMaster Says In celebration of Olympic Day last Saturday, the BVI Olympic Committee and its national federations hosted a Sports Festival at the A. O. Shirley Grounds, where athletes and the public were able to engage in different sporting activities and learn about them first hand. Athletes from different sports disciplines could be seen trying out other sports they’ve never participated in. “I think the turnout of the national federations and the young members that have come along to this event has been very encouraging,” coordinator Sofia Fay said. “All the national federations have pulled out all the stops. We have bicycles, even a boat. Everyone brought their equipment—Archery, Taekwondo, Cycling, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Rugby, Tennis— you name it and the kids are having such a blast. They’re flipping from one station to another. They’re barely stopping for water. I’ve been very happy with the enthusiasm of the young kids especially. They’re just beaming.” Fay said the kids were having a ball with all the sports around them. “I caught a little 2-year old or so, wielding a squash racquet and the glee on her face as she was throwing a ball and hitting it with her dad, was really, really lovely to watch,” Fay stated. During the event, four athletes—one sailor and three track and field athletes—were named for the 18thPan Am Games in Lima, Peru July 26-Aug 11, by Hon. Neville Smith, 1stVice President of the BVI Olympic Committee. Laser sailor, Thad Lettsome, Long

Jumper, Chantel Malone, 400m Hurdler, Kyron McMaster and Shot Putter, Eldred Henry. “Qualifying for these Games has become much tougher than previous years and given the elevated standards and smaller team representing the VI this year, we are justifiably proud and excited to be sending a group of strong competitors who have the proven talent to make history and win our first ever medal - or medals!- in the Pan Am Games,” Hon. Smith said while congratulating the athletes. “We are also pleased that we have a young sailor who will bring us back into the Games after a long respite.” Lettsome will see action Aug 3-10, while the track and field athletes will swing into action Aug 6-10. McMaster qualified by winning gold at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. Eldred Henry, qualified with his record setting performance during the indoor season. Long jumper, Malone, hit her qualifier when she claimed the then world #1 spot with a personal best leap of 6.90m at the at the 3rd Annual Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens, Georgia. Lindel “Chef ”Hodge, is the Chef de Mission. The opening ceremony is slated for July 26 and the closing ceremony on August 11. Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway, will be providing daily reports from the Games on CBN 90.9 FM at 5.00pm, July 26 through August 5th and then three daily reports at 9.00am, 2.00pm and 9.00pm from August 6 – 11, with an Aug. 12 wrap-up.
