Ready To Mingle In the Netflix produced, Ready to Mingle, a wannabe bride seeks professional help to find a husband, and in the process finds herself. The film opens with Ana (Cassandra Ciangherotti) at a wedding with her then boyfriend Gabriel (Pablo Cruz). A simple conversation during the ceremony leads Gabriel to breakup with her right there. Ana responds by getting drunk at a family event. When she learns that her cousin recently got engaged, she drinks even more, feeling sorry for herself. Her cousin lets her in on a secret about a class that will teach her how to get a husband. She never takes her seriously and gets drunk before showing up at Gabriel’s home. What she meets there makes her go to the class, but she resists before leaving. When things don’t go as planned, she calls Lucila (Gabriela de la Garza) and begs her to come back to her class. Lucila’s class is about how the dating game has changed and what has to be done now to get a man. She tells her class that online dating, in this era, allows you to find a partner in one simple click. She then explains the rules and Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
tells the class how to make the rules work for them. In implementing the rules, one disappointment after the next follows and depresses Ana even further. It isn’t until she meets Diego (Juan Pablo Medina) that she begins to feel any hope of things changing. Things with Diego don’t go smoothly at first, but eventually a second date follows, then another and many more. On a weekend getaway with Diego, when Ana realizes that she isn’t there for the same reason she thought, she lies to him. When she returns from the getaway, everyone except Lucila is impressed with her ring. She pulls Ana to the side and asks her what she did and hopes that she can live with it. With her overwhelming guilt, Ana has no choice but to admit to Diego what she has done. After all this time, Gabriel shows up professing that he still loves Ana, but she shuts him down. Does Ana eventually find a husband? Ready to Mingle can be streamed on demand on Netflix.

A Splash Of Colour As we know October is designated Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month as well as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Domestic Violence is abuse by one person against another when both are members of the same family or household. Victims may be children or adult men or women, including the elderly. The violence can take multiple forms, ranging from physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, economic to religious abuse. In each form, the perpetrator uses physical force or some other form of coercion against his or her victim. In most cases domestic violence occurs when the abuser believes that he or she is entitled to treat the other person this way. This year, the Family Support Network (FSN) is celebrating their 30th anniversary of service. During the month of October, they are asking the public to support their campaign ‘Nailing It’ by painting your

ring finger on any hand or both any shade of purple in support of victims of domestic violence. The theme this year is ‘Domestic Violence Awareness + Action + Life Change’ Also on October, 31st, in observance of the occasion, you are encouraged to paint the town purple by wearing purple in support of survivors. Breast Cancer is a cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. Early detection of cancer saves many lives, so the best way to protect yourself is to know the signs. Some signs and symptoms of breast cancer may include: a lump in the breast, changes in the size, shape or appearance of the breast, an inverted nipple, peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking of the skin surrounding the nipple, and redness of the skin over your breast. In support of survivors on Friday, 26th, you are encouraged to paint the town pink by wearing shades of pink.

Admit it! We all look forward to the holiday calendar release each year so we can plan our vacations around them. Personally the only clothes I wear are work and home clothes (yup, I’m kind of boring) so when holidays come around I don’t get excited. I f you’re a parent like me, then you will understand that holidays (and weekends) don’t mean we get to relax, unless the kids are not around. And at some point, you spend part of that time trying to do chores or preparing for their return home. This holiday weekend I actually had some none-home plans, but unfortunately for me, other people have plans for me also. So, my plans were to take the kids on the Pier for movie night (Saturday), ship the kids out to aunty on Sunday morning and attend the afternoon session of the lash class. Monday, I was headed to the beach lime event. Now, I am informed that I will be taking the kids to the movies on Saturday night, to the park on Sunday and then to the church fun day on the beach on Monday (all their plans, backed by their grandmother). So, you see technically I’ll be out of the house this weekend, but not how I initially planned. Oh my bad, not sure what holiday I’m talking about? Well on Monday, 21st, it’s St. Ursula’s Holiday. If you’re not familiar with who she is, she is a legendary RomanoBritish Christian saint, who died on October, 21st many moons ago. It is said that she travelled with a group of 11,000 virgins. So what are your holiday weekend plans? Share some with us on our Facebook page.

Seven Deadly Sins Sloth
Lazy peasants. Sleeps instead of works. Avoidance of physical or Spiritual work. Jodee spent her childhood and a lot of her younger years attending every event her church had. She was in every youth group and only missed church events if she was sick or if there weren’t any. Although she never had a choice, she eventually grew to love the different groups and looked forward to going. After becoming an adult, she started to stray away from church and when asked why, she made up every excuse in the book not to go. When hard times hit, she would feel the fear that she needed to go back to God, but as the emotion passed, she would forget the mental promises she made to herself to turn her life back to God. Every time the new year came around and various church groups began looking for new members, Jodee avoided putting her name down for any and eventually she stopped attending church regularly. ********* “Hi Sister Marcy, how are you doing?” Jodee asked the elderly lady in the aisle of the supermarket. “I’m good, Jodee, how are you? I haven’t seen you at church in a long time,” Sister Marcy remarked to Jodee. “Well I’m good, everything is good on my end,” Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
Jodee answered. “Will I see you in church on Sunday? Why don’t you make an effort to come? I remember you growing up in church. Don’t stay out the church and want to run back when you need God,” Sister Marcy warned Jodee. Sister Marcy was great friends with Jodee’s grandmother when she was alive. Both Ladies were in the women’s fellowship groups at the church and she saw Jodee grow up serving God in church and stop after her grandmother passed, she always prayed for the day Jodee would come back. “I’ll come to church when I can, until then, keep good,” Jodee responded while walking off. “Sometimes I wish people would just learn to mind their own business,” Jodee thought to herself as she continued shopping, secretly hoping not to bump into Sister Marcy again. Later that week when Sunday rolled around, instead of going to church, Jodee shut off her alarm and rolled back over. “Not feeling church today,” she thought to herself. “As a matter of fact, church don’t make you closer to God, I pray, read my bible and am good to people.”

When You Drop Into A Pothole We don’t have to be members of a sports team to know that in this life, a major setback or one bad move could result in a disappointing outcome. Even after trying our best, sometimes we hit a roadblock or an obstacle that makes us want to give up. Practicing resilience helps us to bounce back or to get up off the ground and jump right back into the saddle and try our best to continue what we started. I won’t lie to you, it’s not always as easy as it sounds though. People discourage us, sometimes especially the ones close to us. Lack of money can hold us back; also, no energy or no motivation can keep us down. When you are trying hard for a long time, be it to lose weight to master a class or just to endure a challenging relationship, the urge to quit kicks in more times than we care to admit. The ability to be resilient means that you can be tough enough and strong enough to recover after a difficult challenge. Six ways to summon the oomph to keep going when we feel like quitting are: 1. Accept the fact that you’re human and it’s okay to pause. Don’t beat yourself up for things you have no control over. Life happens and sometimes you will be affected. 13
2. Find confidence in your abilities. You’ve come this far and that is something to celebrate. Identify the strengths that brought you to this point and harness it going forward. 3. Have a support system. Call in the troops when you need to…your mentors, advice givers, comforters and whoever else are members of your support team. 4. Think about the rewards if you keep going. There is a purpose for all you are doing and if you focus on the “why” you are doing this and the “what” you will achieve, it gives you an extra push. 5. Do little things that will add up to big things. If you have to restart slowly, it’s okay. Mount Everest was climbed by persons taking one step at a time. 6. Know your limitations. Know what the things are that slow you down. If too much sugar zaps your energy or you have negative self-talk, acknowledge and deal with these barriers. So, think about that job, relationship, weight loss goal, college class, or that book you are writing and tell yourself, I’m gonna give it my all… even if I fall, on my support system I will call and I will climb that wall… and overcome.

Hodge Signing To Play Basketball With Cleveland State Over the last 43 years, many have gone on to play collegiately and get an education in the USA across several different sports. However, not many have had college recruiters come to the territory to meet their parents. In the last two weeks, recruiters from Coastal Carolina and Cleveland State, have popped in to the BVI to meet precocious talent, D’Moi Hodge, who was on the first Digicel Jumpstart Program Basketball squad to New York in 2015, where he had exposure to NBA coaches at a clinic. Hodge, currently at State College of Florida, said it’s because of Coach Dennis Gates that he committed to play for Cleveland State. “Really and truly, it’s because of Coach Gates. I like the vibes and everybody was nice,” noted Hodge who recently visited Cleveland State with whom he’s signing a letter of intent in November. Hodge will reunite with Franklyn Penn, another BVI talent who signed in August and will begin playing next month, “It’s just a good vibe at the school. Coach Gates was an assistant at Florida State for 18 years and had been recruiting me from in February because he saw me playing. We had a relationship from before.” Hodge, who will join the team during the 202021 season, described the opportunity to play on the same squad with Penn as being ‘magical.’ “We played together on Tortola for a couple years, we know how each other play and we know how to play with each other,” he said. “It’s not like we’re get-
ting introduced to each other—we’re accustomed to playing with each other so it’s just boot, a help to them because we’re accustomed to having fun with each other.” Penn said it feels great to have Hodge joining him in the backcourt at Cleveland State. “The head coach is trying to turn the program around and he’s trying to get some Dogs in the backcourt, so me and D’Moi in the backcourt, it’s going to be like a scary sight,” Penn said. “It’s gonna be really blessed to have him on the backcourt with me, because we’re both from the BVI and that basically never happened where both of the top players in the British Virgin Islands, attending the same Division I College. It’s gonna be great and we’re gonna have a great time. We’re gonna make sure we put on for the city and support the islands.” Hodge, a stand out participant in the 2015 Digicel Jumpstart Program along with Malachi Payne, earned a trip to New York for a camp with players from other Caribbean Digicel markets. “It helped me to understand that there’s talent all over,” he reflected. “You really have to work to get better. Everyone has talent, but you have to do something different than others.” Besides Cleveland State, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State and Bethune-Cookman were among the schools seeking Penn’s services.
