“Mascara and eyeliner definitely make the eyes pop and any lip products add just a touch of glam”. In 2018, I participated in a promo photoshoot for BadKitty and Flawlessly You Makeup Artistry (Stacy-Ann Bobb) was the Make-up Artist (MUA) for the shoot. Ever since that day I’ve been following and admiring her work. Stacy-Ann was born and raised in the BVI and is a college graduate with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. This ambitious Make-up Artist loves sailing and beach days. Think you’ve seen her before? Then you probably have, as she’s also one of our local models. Growing up, Stacy-Ann always showed interest in cosmetology. She started with hair styling, nail art and eventually started experimenting with her sister’s eyeshadow palettes. “I used to come home after school and sit for hours and watch makeup tutorials on YouTube,” she explained. In revealing some of the looks that she enjoys the most, Stacy-Ann said she likes to practice extravagant looks for when her clients decide to challenge her. She loves doing smoky eyes and blown

out looks. “I do natural faces and let the eyes do the talking,” she disclosed. She credits MUA, Tiyana Robinson as her inspiration, stating that her work is flawless and effortless. I couldn’t let her go without her letting me in on the secret as to why her look is always so perfect and I was not shocked when this natural beauty confessed that her base makeup is very light unless the look requires something different. “I personally don’t like heavy make-up, so I don’t practice it on my clients”. As a MUA, she believes that communicating with clients during sessions is a must. Some clients may bring a picture of the look they’ve seen and want to replicate. Since we all have different features, Stacy-Ann believes that it is important as an artist to educate your client on why certain things may look different and to keep an open mind towards learning from others. To stay up to date on new techniques and trends, she utilizes her social outlets by following a great deal of other makeup artists. Some trends are really out of the box, so she doesn’t do them on her clients unless a specific look is requested. However, she would practice them on herself and save some of the ideas for times like now – Festival. 6

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 12: I Got You Sis

It was now Friday afternoon and it was also time for Beth, Liz and Sarah to have their monthly link up. Liz called them earlier in the day to tell them not to be late today since she really needed to talk about something important. Sarah arrived first, so she secured a booth for them in the back so they would be able to talk privately without much eavesdropping. Once Beth and Liz showed up, they ladies signaled for a waiter to come over. During their chit chat, Liz cut the ladies off by blurting out, “I was in the hospital because Michael strangled me and caused me to black out for a few days.” It was as if time had frozen after she said that, because both Beth and Sarah froze in shock at the words that just left Liz’s mouth. “Why didn’t you call us and why did Michael do something like that?” Beth asked. Before anyone could say anything else, she continued in a tone as if she was ready for war, “As a matter of fact, I’m going down to the jail house to shoot him through his cell.” “You can’t Beth, the police don’t know where he disappeared to, and this was not the first. He abused me physically and mentally practically our whole relationship. I was embarrassed to say anything because I always forgave him and took him back.” Liz filled her friends in on all that she found out about the real Michael and what she had been through their whole relationship. At some point, Beth also informed her friends that she had to get cameras for her home and seLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

curity at work had to scan everyone that came in the building to see her. She told them about the death threats by someone named Angel and why she got them. “Now bitch, see we told you about them sexcapades of yours now look what you got into. Don’t worry I got your back though she will have to pass through me to get to you,” Sarah said while leaning over to give her friend a hug. “Since we spilling this tea, I should tell you ladies that my marriage has been on the rocks for months and that my husband has another woman,” Sarah blurted out. The air suddenly became still as Beth and Liz looked at her like WTF. Sarah and Brian were like relationship goals in their town. Hearing this left a bad taste in Beth’s mouth as she had secretly prayed that she could get it together like Sarah and settle down with a good man. The Ladies continued to spill their secrets and it felt great to get them off their chests. They vowed to be each other’s support and to check in every day. Liz was encouraged to hire a bodyguard until Michael was arrested and she told her girls instead of dinner, they were going to dress in all black tomorrow and go hunt Brian’s mystery lady and Angel. The group burst out in laughter and continued enjoying each other’s company not knowing that danger was lurking nearby for one of them. 12

I

promise you this ‘thrilla’ is good watch or as we say in Tola twang - “She Bad”. Don’t mind the noise, watch and judge it for yourself. The movie begins with Jennifer Williams (Brenda Song) running for her life to get away from someone. She gets hit by a vehicle and wakes up in the hospital hours later with amnesia. She has no idea what happened and how she got there. She soon finds out that she’s married and her husband’s name is Russell (Mike Vogel). Russell stays next to Jennifer’s side in the hospital during the recovery process as any man should. You would have never picked up on the fact that he’s a complete psychopath. Upon her release, Nurse Masters (Ashley Scott), her therapy nurse tells Jennifer to call her to schedule appointments for her leg which was not fully healed.

13

Detective Frank Page, (Dennis Haysbert, Allstate Insurance commercial guy), who’s trying to solve Jennifer’s accident mystery becomes suspicious after he asks Russell to bring Jennifer in for a statement and she never shows up. Jennifer then realises that something is off with Russell based on his many excuses to everything she asks him to do. Just like Detective Page, she will soon come to realise that Russell is not who he says he is. Who is Russell and why does Detective Page also dig into his identity? Secret Obsession can be streamed on Netflix.

McMaster Eyeing NACAC Age Group History With an individual bronze medal in the 11-12 Division Pentathlon to her credit from 2017, A’Keela McMaster is seeking to make history this weekend, as she attempts to become the territory’s fist athlete to win medals in the 13-14 Heptathlon Division of the NACAC Age Group Championships in El Salvador as well. In her category, she’ll accumulate points contesting the 80m, 80m Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Ball Throw, Shot Put and 1000m events. The athlete with the highest score wins. In 2017, she did five events in the 11-12 Division Pentathlon. “It would mean the world to me to win a medal in this age group, because I train my hardest to do this,” McMaster said. “Basically, it will help me make a start in my career. Training has gone well, but became harder as the time to go got closer.” When asked what she likes about track, McMaster responded, “The fact that if I do good, I could get a scholarship and my parents don’t have to pay for college.” Her sister A’Sia will contest the 11-12 Division. A’Sia observed A’Keela two years ago and knows what to expect. “I have to follow my coach because basically, he taught us everything we need to know,” she said. “Since it’s my first time, my goal is to aim for first place.” A’Keela said she’ll communicate with her sister, during her competition. Division mate Jahkayla Morton, said her preparation has gone well but it was intense. “We have been preparing for that 800m,” she noted. “And the 800 is very tiring.”

The Pentathletes will tackle the 60m, Long Jump, High Jump, Ball Throw and 800m. Coach Ericca Frederick, who has attended every biannual meet since 2009, said she’s looking for the athletes to do their very best, especially the new comers and for A’Keela to be in the top three again. Preparations she said, have gone well. The only disadvantage she disclosed was not having a High Jump bed to prepare on forcing athletes to go to St. Thomas to train. “I just want them to do their best, clear the first height, especially those who haven’t done High Jump before,” Frederick said. “This meet is a very good development meet because these kids are young and we should always encourage the youth, from U9 to U15s to do multiple events. We as coaches, parents and athletes don’t know what they’ll be good at in the future, so it’s good to develop running, jumping and throwing, so that when they reach the Jr. age group, they would start specializing from there and see what their better events would be.” Having A’Keela on the team she said is an asset as she can speak to and explain what the experience is all about. Other members of the team are: 13-14 Girls, Jahtivya Williams; 13-14 Boys, Keleem Lettsome and Mychael Claxton. The BVI has been participating in the event since its 1985 inception in Curacao, when it was the CAC Age Group Championships. The event was hosted here in 2011.
