Gemini Bashment You may have seen the fliers around town and wondered ‘who is Everyth!ng L!t Promot!ons?’ Everyth!ngL!t Promot!ons is the brainchild of Judy-Ann Smith, who is no stranger to entertainment in the BVI. In December 2017, Judy-Ann and her teenage son Jamoi brainstormed names for the promotion company and with Jamoi being ‘in the know’ he won the competition. For those not as plugged in as Jamoi, the phrase ‘everything lit’ is used when having a good time and, as young persons would say, ‘turned up’ or ‘popping.’ Although there are quite a number of established promoters, Judy-Ann feels the need to add her touch to the mix. Her philosophy is, we shouldn’t just work and pay bills, we should also enjoy our lives. She looks at entertainment as a way of unwinding after a hard work week or a just a way to celebrate life with friends and family, after all, we only live once. Judy-Ann extends an invitation to other promoters to collaborate with her on future events.
Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.
“We hope to bring entertainment solo or join in collab with other promoters to double the pleasure and provide events that are lit and popping,” she said. “Music brings people together and that’s our goal, to bring people together to celebrate, to have fun and to live it up. After an event, that is what we would want to hear: ‘everything was lit.’” Judy-Ann encourages anyone with an idea to get it out there, adding that as she looks at life, “Sometimes one just got to stop being scared and go for it. Either it will work or it won’t but you won’t know until you try.” This Friday, May 25, Everyth!ng L!t Promot!ons will launching its first event, Gemini Bashment, at Island Sizzle located at Baughers Bay and everyone is invited to join in celebrating Geminis. Entertainment will be by Dj Mac Milli, Shaw HP The Band (who are fresh from the St. Thomas Carnival) and our very own BVI Road March Champs, VIBE. Tickets for the event are available at J&C Trading Limited or by contacting Judy-Ann at 441-2561. She also has a message for the party revelers: “We hope to fulfill your expectations and will try to keep everything lit as we party together and dance like no one is watching!”

Sea Sweep Association of Reef Keepers BVI is calling all beach lovers to come out to Cane Garden Bay on Sunday to help clean up the bay both ashore and underwater. ARK divers will be underwater collecting what Hurricane Irma tossed into the sea. Whether you’re the type to stay on land or hit the water on a stand-up paddleboard or kayak, the divers can use all the help they can get carrying away what they bring up. You can even bring your dinghy or moor your yacht to help haul away the garbage: there’s a job for everyone! Volunteers should meet at 9am in the parking area next to Myett’s.

Pitch Perfect 3 The third and final installment of this send-up to all things a cappella sees the ladies of the Barden Bellas three years after they’ve graduated college, having theoretically moved on from competitive singing and living their best lives. The only problem is that actually, their jobs aren’t all that great. So when they get the chance to perform with the USO, an organization that sends artists to overseas military bases to entertain American troops, they jump at it. As soon as they land, the Bellas are thrust into another competition, this time against bands that — aca-scuse me? — include instruments as well as voices. The stakes are much higher this time too: rather than just bragging rights among their fellow musical nerds, the winners of this competition get signed to a record deal and will open for DJ Khaled when the USO puts on its final, big concert. The “We The Best” artist makes several quick appearances throughout the movie. It can be hard to watch sequels for big ensemble movies like this, because there are usually some gaping holes in the casting left by one or more actors who aren’t available or aren’t interested in continuing the franchise. Pitch Perfect hits the right note with Anna Kendrick returning as musical production wiz-kid Beca, and Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson reprising their roles as her best friends Chloe and Fat Amy.
11
The other Bellas, Aubrey (Anna Camp), Emily (Hailee Steinfeld), Cynthia Rose (Ester Dean), Lilly (Hana Mae Lee), Jessica (Kelley Jakle), and Flo (Chrissy Fit) are all likewise back and singing again. Only Stacie (Alexis Knapp) sits most of the film out, except for a quick video-chat scene where she introduces the others to her brand new baby girl, who she has named Bella, inspiring the songstresses to get over their latest embarrassment and enjoy the music and each other’s company. As in the first and second installments, Pitch Perfect 3 is a fun mix of crude Fat Amy remarks, short jokes at Beca’s expense, silly musical puns and heartwarming scenes of friendship. Oh, and plenty of great vocal remakes of chart-topping tunes — “Sit Still, Look Pretty,” “Cheap Thrills,” “Wake Me Up,” “Freedom ’90” and “Toxic” were some of the best. What this film adds is an unexpected and quirky action-film type sub-story that centers around Fat Amy and her white-collar-criminal of a father (John Lithgow). When papa kidnaps some of the Bellas and holds them captive on his mega-yacht, the girls have to sing and dance their way out of a major aca-tastophe. After their fiery escape, the girls learn that Beca has been keeping a secret from the rest of the Bellas: she’s been offered the record deal, but not as a Bella, as a solo act. How will her singing sisters cope with the news? The payoff is the most heartwarming scene of the whole franchise. Pitch Perfect 3 is available on iTunes. Vol. 30, 7/ May 24 - May 30, 2018
Against All Odds Chapter 5: Atlast
This has been such an incredible year. I’m about to celebrate my daughter’s eighth birthday, my first year of marriage with Lisa, and I’m about to open my fifth music school. It started when I agreed to compose some music for a Broadway show. Which turned into a series of shows, several of which were unexpectedly huge successes. After that I was asked to score few films. When one of those got nominated for an Academy Award, there was suddenly a huge demand to attend music classes at my schools. The list was so long I had to open two more locations around the city. To have five locations around New York was great success in my eyes. When I first opened, I thought I was just going to get a few kids to keep the place running, but because we had programs to fit everyone’s budget, learning music was more accessible than ever for my students. It didn’t hurt that I had picked up more instruments than only the piano over the years. I played six instruments including the drums, and offered lessons in all of them (but I still love the piano most). My wife came into my life and taught me things I didn’t know I need to know and at my lowest points she held my hand when I needed to get back up. She never said no. I’m here finalizing our anniversary get away. The only thing she knows about it is that she had to take two weeks worth of vacation time from work. Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
If all goes well, this trip will be epic. I’ve already arranged for Brittney to spend the time we’re away with my parents, and with the help of her nanny it should easy for them. “Time to cut the cake” my wife told Brittney and her birthday party guests. Goodness, I wonder if I had gotten a boy would I have this kind of headache over an eighth birthday party? These little girls were something else. Instead of a traditional party Brittney asked for a pampered princess theme for her celebration. Our whole back yard looked like something out of a fairy tail. We rented play castles and all the good stuff to make the day a success. Earlier the girls went to a spa and then went shopping to get princess dresses and all the other junk princesses wear and use. It all seems over the top to me, but my princess was happy with her party, so I am too. One more thing to be happy about: she didn’t want any boys at this party. I hope all her parties going forward can be girls only themes until she is forty. *********** “Hello, love,” my wife rolled over and kissed me. It’s been a week into our anniversary trip and the smile hasn’t left her face yet. I pray to all the angels above that I can keep her smiling for years to come. The end 12
He Won’t Stand Up To Mom Dear Koren, My boyfriend is not standing up for me after I overheard his mother say that “those foreign women seem to look for men who are well established,” after she talked to me and maybe she thought the phone had hung up. I feel so hurt. First off, I thought she liked me, but his reaction is what hurts even more. I feel betrayed. He says I’m overreacting to her comment, and that I shouldn’t worry what she says anyway since he’s the one I’m the in the relationship with but I can’t help but think that by accepting her words without a challenge, he must feel the same way. –Hurt Dear girlfriend, I understand you are hurt because no one likes to be put into any negative categories and while nothing is wrong with you being a foreigner, the way it was said makes it sound like you are a gold digger. To be fair to your boyfriend’s mother though, there is a possibility that she could have meant something else. Why not mention what you heard to her and ask her what she meant by that? Also, she could like you and still make a general observation that does not diminish in any way her positive regard for you. So seek clarification from her. If she did mean what you think she did, then you can choose to tell her how her words made you feel. Your boyfriend is right; you are in the relationship with him and he cannot be held responsible for her words. I think it’s unfair to take this out on him. He knew where you were from and that didn’t stop 13
him from being in a relationship with you. Your feelings are hurt right now. Him confronting his mother might seem like it would ease the sting of your wounds, but what if it creates another problem of his mother feeling like he is attacking her, his one and only mother, for a girl he’s dating? (I’m using the favorite tactic of many a criticized mother: the guilttrip… you know how dramatic they can be.) Do you want your boyfriend to have to deal with that? He has spent his whole life knowing her, so he probably knows too how to pick his battles. The last thing I want to tell you is that you should never be ashamed of who you are. Seriously, nothing is wrong with having a preference for men who are established, in the same manner that some women might prefer a man who is laid back and the easy-go-lucky, go-with-the-flow kind of guy. You have a right to choose who you want to date and if anyone has an issue with it, that’s their problem, not yours. Your relationship is not for public or general approval; if you try to please everyone, you will be constantly miserable. Your relationship is between you and your boyfriend and your main concern in it should be that you are both happy with each other and satisfied with the relationship. Eventually, his mom will realize that while she is important to him, she has to take a backseat when it comes to his love life. Send your questions and comments to askkoren@ live.com. Your confidentiality is assured Vol. 30, 7/ May 24 - May 30, 2018
The Return Of Youth Sailing As the BVI has such a storied sailing history, I was rather delighted to see the successful weekend BVI Dinghy Championships, with young sailors inside and outside the Nanny Cay Marina, competing and honing their skills. This was particularly significant, since it was the first home-based competition targeting young sailors in the Optimist Class, in Green, Red and Blue Fleets respectively. As the least experienced group, the Green Fleet stayed safely tucked inside the marina, away from the strong winds, where the more experienced sailors meandered. Sailors from the St. Thomas Yacht Club in particular, engaged in a ferocious battle to occupy the vacant title spot in the Championship Division, left by counterpart Mia Nicolosi, who aged out of the competition. They might have only been between 11-14 years in the Blue and Red Fleets, but, they were very competitive. In fact, Tanner Krygsveld, 11, who didn’t finish in the first race after capsizing, stormed back with three victories and a second place finish, for a one-point lead over Andy Yu and just two better than Katherine Majett, after day one, where the leader had 12 points. “The competition was strong, really hard and they sailed well and it was kind of hard to keep consistency, because if you messed up, it’s kinda hard to come back because they’re so strong,” said overall winner, Krygsveld. “I had a bad race on the last day but came back with two firsts and I started Limin’Times Entertainment Gude
sailing faster and more competitive I guess than everyone else.” Capsizing during the first race of the competition, Krygsveld said there was no point going on as he was already behind the start. “I knew that if I could sail consistently in the other races, I could come back,” he said. “This win means a lot. Past sailors from the U.S. Virgin Islands have won this so this is special. Event coordinator Tamsin Rand, said it was a fabulous weekend and the weather gave everyone a challenge, but it was great having the St. Thomas sailors along with one from Puerto Rico. “We’re down on our numbers for BVI for obvious reasons, but we have some up and coming kids in the Green Fleet, so it’s just a matter of time before they’re out on the championships course,” she noted. “They all raced hard this weekend.” With the strong winds on opening day, organizers had the Green Fleet competing inside Nanny Cay. “It gave us a really good safe option to race,” Rand said. “The wind in a ways was just too much and we wanted to ensure they got lots of races in and they have fun and they didn’t come off the weekend thinking, I never want to sail again. Normally, our Plan B would be to go into Sea Cows Bay, but we decided this year, there’s a lot going on in there and Nanny Cay Marina was absolutely perfect.” Krygsveld, Rand said, is a ‘great little sailor.’ “I believe he was one of the youngest on the USVI team and he’s determined. He learns from his mistakes, he’s brilliant.” 14

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “subgris’ that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or colum within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution.
