“Your battery is only getting up to like, 38 percent.” Not a flattering thing to hear from one’s loved ones, but in my case, it came from a loving place. My beloved may have been noticing my paler than usual complexion or the bags under my eyes – he’s too wise a husband to point out such details, so I’m not sure what gave me away – but he was right! I needed to recharge. Luckily, living in the land of chill vibes and a worldwide holiday destination, I have plenty of options for how I should recharge my internal battery. Top of my personal list is a bit of solo time. Between work, the toddler and other obligations, sometimes the best way to recharge is to be alone with my thoughts. If that solo time comes around sunrise with a hot cup of coffee, so much the better. Peak solo recharging happens outside, which may have something to do with the restorative power of nature, or then again it might be that being outdoors makes me less likely to check my schedule and messages. You can often find me on the deck outside my apartment seeking this solitude. This might seem like the exact opposite, but another thing I find reLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

freshing is an intentional catch up with friends and loved ones. Like many on island, I have close friends and family scattered around the world. Sure, we can keep up with the day-to-day minutiae of each others’ lives via social media, but that’s just trivia. The refreshing part comes from being able to hear the person’s voice as they tell one of their quintessential stories, or from being able to offer some words of encouragement to a friend who’s struggling with something. If you can do it in person and exchange hugs too, so much the better. The one I struggle the most with can also be the most effective way to recharge: to sweat it out. When you’re bone-tired and feel too spread thin to make a decision about dinner, the last thing you want to do is go for a workout. But for me I find if I can get over the hump and get myself started, I never regret it. Whether it’s challenging myself to break a personal plank record or taking a quick walk/ jog down the hill and back again, something about getting my blood pumping and those natural endorphins works wonders for bringing me back to myself. So how do you recharge? Head over to the Limin Times Facebook page and let us know!

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 2: Skeletons

Liz stood up and watched Michael like he was stupid and attempted to walk past him out the door. He grabbed her by her hair and wrestled her. “You must be meeting some nigga tonight because you never lost your damn mind before,” Michael told her. She pushed him off her into the wall where he hit his head then ran upstairs to fix over herself. ********* “Damn!” Sarah and Beth exclaimed when Liz walked up to them outside the theater. “Why your face so flawless, you plan on shagging a new man tonight?” Sarah asked. “No, I just felt like going a li’l extra tonight, been a while since I had a reason to dress down outside my work clothes,” Liz replied. “Besides, I know y’all ladies was going to come looking like a meal, so I had to keep up,” she continued. “You got that right!” Beth chimed in. “Are we going to talk or are we going in to see this movie?” Sarah cut the girls off. Truth is Liz had to cover up the cut on her face she received from Michael when he tried to stop her from leaving. Look at you, yea you, the one reading this now. I don’t need your sympathy, Michael is a good man, he just gets over the top sometimes. He just likes his woman home with him. Once the movie was over the ladies walked down the block to their favourite Italian joint for dinner. “Ay Papi,” Beth told the waiter as they got seated. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

“Woman that’s Spanish not Italian” Liz told her. “I know itch!, but he understands me though. I will be tapping that a$$ tonight, watch and see,” Beth Responded. “Girl that man don’t want you, can’t you see he wants what you are looking too,” Sarah told her. “Y’all just a bunch of haters. Anyway, let’s eat,” Beth replied. Throughout the dinner the ladies laughed and talked and enjoyed each other’s company until the next time. Sarah had just walked into her home and as usual her husband was not home. No matter how much I keep fit and dress nice for him it doesn’t seem to work, she thought to herself. My bed have been more empty than filled with the two bodies that should be in it. She never got the courage to tell her besties that she had been lonely for months. As a matter of fact, she never talked about her business because she was too ashamed. You see in High School, Sarah was very popular and also in college she maintained that level of admiration from her peers. Her marriage was great in the first couple of years but in the last six months her husband became so busy that he came to bed sometimes during the night and now he’s barely home at all. Who would think behind closed doors she wasn’t important. Sarah let out a sigh and locked her door behind her. She made sure her home was secured and headed upstairs. After her bath she tried calling her husband but as usual, he ignored her calls. 12

Cleo’s Miracle Basketball Explosion To Give Back At a time when Cleodine “Cleo” King-DeFreitas should be more concerned about her own health issues after numerous surgeries and a minor stroke, she has adopted the theme of ‘giving back’ after Doctors told her she will be bed ridden by 40. This weekend, Cleo’s Miracle Basketball Explosion takes place at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, where the 41-year old school teacher will use funds raised to benefit students in need when the next school year begins. That’s sheer selflessness. “I’ve had 19 surgeries, a minor stroke on my right side and doctors gave me by 40 not to be as mobile as I am now,” the 41- year old school teacher and mother of five reflected. Cleo had been diagnoised with Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension at 35. “The stroke was on my right side and I have a device in my head called a VP Shunt—it drains the excess fluid off my brain. The disease takes your sight and cripples you. I wasn’t supposed to be this mobile by 40 and would have had to stop teaching. I’ve had four brain surgeries in three years and doctors said I would have succumbed to the disease.” Approaching 40 and healthy in 2018, Cleo planned a gospel concert—to help others. “My theme is giving back and the concert was to help women in need and I also decided to bless the group MALE (Mentoring Anointed Leaders Everywhere) and gave them some money because that was something meaningful to me,” she said. “Long story short, I helped pay some women’s rent, helped others

with their bills for women who I knew for sure were in need. I signaled them out, went to them and I blessed them. After that, I decided this is something I’d do annually and every year, I’d do something differently or, if I run out of things to do, I’ll repeat some of the things I did before but, I’m going to be giving back.” When Cleo, who has been teaching for 16 years, returned to the classroom in 2018 after being out 2016– 17, she noticed that there are needy children. Those who don’t have proper uniforms, those who came to school without lunch or proper books so she decided on giving to children this year. Thus the weekend basketball miracle tournament. Her team includes Sherna Robinson, Ereia Smith and Tylia Nibbs-Henley. She has already contacted the principal of the Joyce Samuel School and will reach out to other schools including Virgin Gorda, as a team is coming from there. “We’re going to principals/teachers about students who they know in fact are needy, their parents are less fortunate than others and we’re going to bless them with buying school uniforms and supplies they need for September, after contacting their parents, so that’s what this initiative is for.” Teams include: St. Croix’s Come Together, West Gunners, East, Mystics, Willful Skillful and Shut Down. Admission to the games is $7 and $5 children under 12 and Sunday’s championship games, $10 adults and $5 children.
