Bad Moms Christmas So before we go any further, please note that we are in my favorite time of the year – Christmas season. No, it’s not too early to be listening to Christmas music either, just ask my co-worker how I’ve been tormenting him since November 1st. Let me tell you, I’ve had this movie sitting for the longest time, but never watched it. I decided that I would fight it until it was the right season. I kicked off my holiday movie binge watching on Sunday night with this hilarious film. In most cases, the follow up to a movie isn’t always as great as the original, but we continue to watch anyway. This was not the case for this movie. I didn’t stop laughing while watching this movie until the very end. In Bad Moms Christmas, under-appreciated and overburdened moms Amy (Mila Kunis), Kiki (Kristen Bell) and Carla (Kathryn Hahn) rebel against the challenges and expectations of Christmas. As if creating the perfect holiday for their families wasn’t hard enough, they’ll have to do it while hosting and entertaining their own respective mothers when they come to visit. Amy’s mom Ruth (Christine Baranski) is the first to let it be known that she is coming to spend Christmas. Amy reveals that her and her mom have never had the best relationship and when she reveals this, Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

6

I really wasn’t expecting the behavior that followed. Ruth is determined to have an extravagant Christmas by all means, but Amy protests until she couldn’t anymore. Ruth buys her grandchildren’s affection with gifts. She decorates Amy’s house as she pleases and defends her actions by saying that she (Amy) is too lazy to even put any effort into doing it; telling her that as a mom it is her duty to spread Christmas. She even secretly throws a party at Amy’s house while she is out. Now, with Sandy (Cheryl Hines), Kiki’s mom, I could have automatically seen that she was a nutcase. Mothers love their children, but who is this obsessed with their child’s life? She has no boundaries and never sees anything wrong with her behavior. She actually sits in their bedroom as the couple is trying to be intimate. Isis (Susan Sarandon), Carla’s mom, needed a dose of God. I can’t put into words what I really thought of her character. Definitely the definition of a bad mom. To go into any more details would spoil the movie, so I’m encouraging you to watch the movie, you won’t be disappointed. Bad Moms Christmas can be streamed on Netflix and iTunes.

Devious Minds Chapter 5

Buzz Buzz Buzz Buzz went the sound of Diamond’s 5:45am alarm. She got out of bed and headed over to her dresser to shut it off. This way, she gets up and stays up to get ready for work. It wasn’t that she worked far from home, but the rate it took her to get ready, she had to get up early if she ever wanted to be on time, especially since she was definitely not a morning person. It was now Monday morning and Diamond spent all weekend working on some new designs hoping to pitch them to her boss and the marketing department before the day was over. As she gave herself one last look over before leaving her room to meet her sisters in the kitchen, she sighed and thought to herself, “Maybe one day I will have the courage to dress in my own designs or maybe actually pay more attention to my appearance.” “Girl please don’t tell me that is what you spent two hours doing,” Destiny said to her sister as she entered the eating area. She was referring to her attire as she normally did every day. Destiny wished her sister would recognize how beautiful she was and show off her smoking body instead of hiding it under layers of unattractive cloth. “What is wrong with my outfit? I love it, don’t you?” Diamond asked her sister. You could tell by Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

the sound of her voice that she was being sarcastic. “Ladies, not today,” Diana joined in the conversation, “I want to eat in peace, thank you,” she continued. “Oh hush!” both Diamond and Destiny told her. The triplets, shared an apartment together in the same building as their friends, Theresa and Patrick. A knock on the door meant that Theresa and Patrick were signaling them that it was time to leave so they each grabbed their bags and headed out. Although they didn’t work for the same company, the friends offices were in the same general area. On their least busy days, they would meet at the food court to eat together. “Good morning, Mrs. Harring, can I meet with you before the day is over? I’d like to run some new designs by you,” Diamond asked her boss as she passed by her desk. “Diamond, how many times have I asked you to call me Jessica, Mrs. Harring is my mother-in-law, come to my office in twenty minutes, let me look over them as I have several appointments today,” her boss replied.

Cont. on page 13 12

By the time Diamond had gotten home that evening from work, she was in such a sulky mood that she just stayed in her room. Not liking when their sister is down, Diana and Destiny ordered her favorite pizza and called over the gang so they could help cheer her up. Not taking no for an answer, Destiny used the spare key for her bedroom door and dragged her out of bed into the living room where everyone was patiently waiting. “Bi*ch it’s about time, I thought I was going to have to smoke you out of that room,” Patrick told her as she entered the room. “Heffa please, you don’t like your hands dirty, probably would’ve conned Jessica into doing it for

13

you,” Diamond responded. “Girl you right, no evidence will be on my hands,” Patrick said and the group burst our laughing. While they were eating and enjoying themselves, Diamond filled them in on why she was so down. Her boss had turned down her designs earlier and sent her back to the drawing board. Once she shared them with everyone, Patrick decided that he would dig up any dirt he could find on Mrs. Harring and help Diamond to grow some balls about her future.

Will St. Thomas Add The Ham To The Turkey? When horse racing fans throughout the Virgin Islands gathered at the Ellis Thomas Downs on Sunday, little did they realize that St. Thomas horses were about to have a feast in the six pre-Thanksgiving races. St. Thomas ran away with the turkey, winning five of six races on the card. The question is, will they be adding the ham on Boxing Day too? What happened on Sunday? Well, if you weren’t there, please allow me to give you a summary. There were a combined 28 horses from St. Thomas and Tortola, competing for $50,000 in prizes with $12,000 of it in the feature race. By the end of the day, Arturo Watlington Stables completed their fourth victory in six races as Thulean nosed out early leader Totally Evil in the feature race, in the card that featured six 7 Furlong races. How did Watlington pull off the feat? He started with God’s Greatness. Yes, that’s the name of his horse that won the first race. Then, he turned to Faster N Blazes for a win in the second race. He then got Puttingonashow in the act for his third victory in as many races, all with $7,000 purses. For good measure, his other horse, My Running Mate finished second. Watlington didn’t enter race four which went to Holy Giacomo, giving Tortola it’s first and only victory on the day. He had no presence in race five either, but

another St. Thomas horse—Barrabas Key—won the $9,000 race. In the feature race, Watlington did it again. Thulean—who won the 2019 Premier’s Cup—sat back as St. Thomas counterpart Totally Evil set a blistering pace with Courage And Honor in tow and Thulean lurking in the back. And when it came for the stretch run, Totally Evil led but Thulean came charging down the stretch to win by a nose, giving Watlington his final victory. “We did well. This is one of the best race days we’ve ever had,” Arturo Watlington Jr. noted after hard charging Thulean overhauled Totally Evil in the closing 1/16 to win by a nose in one minute 29.1, in the race that saw the Tortola duo of Salsa Jack and Courage And Honor duking it out before fading to third and fourth respectively. “We went 4-for-4 and we ran the other one second. So, we did a good job, a very, very good job. I don’t think anybody has won four races before.” Thulean’s Jockey, Angel Moreno—who won the first race—said, “I tried to do the best I can and we got the job done. At the top of the stretch, coming to the 16th I knew I had them then. My horse was running good and the track was holding good so that helped me a lot to do it.” Any Boxing Day bets?
