Dancing Under the Stars Support the Family Support Network and dance the night away at Dancing Under the Stars Friday, Jan. 27th at the Governor’s House beginning at 7pm. The annual event is sponsored by the Tortola Ladies Club and hosted by Governor John Duncan and his wife Anne Marie Duncan, who is also the patron of FSN. As usual, the agenda includes food, drinks, a raffle and a silent auction. There will also be music by DJ Push Pop and, of course, dancing. When the event began about five years ago, some of the funds raised came from bids to dance with BVI stars. But organizers realized that made it harder for every one to get their fill on the dance floor, Tortola Ladies Club President Gail Harris said recently, which is why the event changed to Dancing Under the Stars. “People just love to dance,” she said, adding that DJ Push Pop is a favorite because he plays requests for everything from Afropop to Zouk. “All you have to do is ask, he’s great.” This year, there will also be a performance by the Tortola Dance Project.

Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.

There’s fun even for the non-dancers though, thanks to the generous support the event receives from business around the BVI, Gail said. “We have a huge selection of prizes going for the silent auction and the raffle,” she said. Attendees will be able to bid on electronics, a tour of Necker Island, spa treatments, meals, and even a “haul-out” at the Nanny Cay boatyard. Can’t make it to the event but still want to help support FSN? The Tortola Ladies Club is selling raffle tickets for $3 each (or $15 for a book of six). Contact any club member for your chance to win prizes like champagne from TICO, a zip lining adventure with the Original Virgin Canopy Tour, a Sole Spa gift basket, dinner at Brandywine Bay Restaurant, a day sail on Kuralu, and canvas prints from Sea Leather framed by Images. Ladies Club members will also be selling raffle tickets in front of Riteway in Pasea on Saturday morning. Tickets cost $45 each and are available at Family Support Network, Sole Spa, House, and Eastern Caribbean Soap Company

Goodnight! Last

week our Chrystall wrote an article on being a morning person and the benefits of being a morning person. I, on the other hand, am the total opposite: I’m a night person. I find that I can function better at night and I’m totally nicer. I don’t know how and why but I just seem to have a burst of energy in the evenings as opposed to being groggy first thing in the morning. It’s so serious that my mom calls me a vampire. She just doesn’t understand that I prefer to do things at night when the place is quiet to do what I have to. I go to work daily and at the end of the day I’m ready to go home to relax but yet when I reach home ¬– apart from mommy duties – I find myself doing all kinds of little things that would never occur to me earlier in the day. Being a night person has its perks. At nights you have the peace to move about without any disturbance or minimal as possible. Being a mom, nights are also the time when the kids go to bed and I can get whatever I have Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

to do done. When those tiny feet are up and running about, it’s quite hard to get house chores or anything else done seeing that a pair belongs to my soonto-be two-year-old. She gets into everything. As fast as you can tidy a spot she messes it right back up, or she demands so much attention that you can’t help but to obey her command. Also at night, once everyone else in your home is sleeping, you can move about freely – making the minimum noise, of course – without anyone getting in your way. I have a little graphic/web design business and it’s much easier to work on client projects when the house is quiet. I’m also taking classes so the evening peace is a time when I can study. What type of person are you? Are you morning person like Chrystall or have all the energy at nights like I do?

Niece Causes Breakup Dear Koren, Some time ago I had a niece living with me and she stole some money from me and I blamed my boyfriend as he was the only other person in the house and we broke up. I eventually found out from the same niece’s boyfriend, that she gave the money to another guy to help him buy a car. He saw her messaging the guy and screen shot the conversation and sent it to me. I now have to figure out how to forgive her and how to try to make up with my ex. I would appreciate your advice in this situation. –Betrayed Dear Aunt, I can understand why you would feel betrayed because this is your family that not only stole from you after you took her in, but she sat back and had front row seats to your pain as you lost your relationship because you thought you could not trust your boyfriend, when all along she was the one not to be trusted. She not only betrayed you, but it’s likely that she also hurt her boyfriend in the process, hence his ratting her out. Forgiving her might not be easy, but it is necessary for your own peace of mind. We are all imperfect and capable of making mistakes and the same way we want to be forgiven, we have to extend the same courtesy to others. That is not to say you are letting her off the hook, as you can still make arrangements for her to repay your money as actions have consequences and she should to be accountable for her behavior. Let her know that she not only took your

money, but your faith in her, and that the trust will need to be rebuilt. Remind her also, that she needs to make some mental adjustments of living within her means and not trying to impress people so that she does not end up in jail for stealing. As bad as the situation is, this is a chance for her to learn some valuable life lessons about love, loyalty and honesty. As it relates to your boyfriend, you are on the other end of the spectrum. You now have to genuinely apologize to him, making no excuses or justification for your behavior. You were wrong to judge him without evidence and not give him the benefit of the doubt. Again, you are human and everyone makes mistakes, so work on forgiving yourself too. There is no guarantee that he will forgive you or that the relationship will get back on track. Please don’t blame him if he doesn’t warm up to you right away, because the hurt of not being believed might still be very strong. You have learnt some rough lessons but going forward, remember that things are not always how they first appear and that sometimes we have to look below the surface to uncover truth. Sometimes the people closest to us hurt us the most, but we don’t have to stop loving them.

Send your questions to askkoren@live.com or follow us on twitter @korennorton and a response will be provided 11

Mark Your Softball Calendar tion nominations as well as nominations from the floor during the meeting. With softball joining with baseball to get back into the Olympics starting with Tokyo 2020, Maduro said they have added a 1st and 2nd vice president posts, with one of the posts specifically for a woman to deal with women’s affairs, in particular the league and the junior women’s program. “Softball is back in the Olympics and we are striving very hard to get young ladies involved so that we can tentatively set 2028 as a goal to get into the Olympic Games,” Maduro said. “We have to put in place a grassroots program to help the league and get the sport back to where it used to be. One of the things we’re really lacking is pitching. If we want to get back to where we were, we have to get back into the youth and we’re appealing especially to the females. We plan to introduce girl’s leagues targeting players Under 6, 8, 10 and 12.” Pitching has been a major problem in recent years, according to Maduro. The art has gone downhill since the BVI played Cuba in the bronze medal game at the 1987 Pan Am Games, where they suffered a narrow 4-3 loss. “Pitching is 90 percent of softball and if we are planning on getting back on the stage where we were in the Pan Am Games, we have to develop pitching,” he stated. “Even if we have to hold pitching camps, that’s what we’ll have to do. We have the expertise to teach fielding and hitting, but, if we have to import people from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, wherever, we would have to do that to help develop our pitching.”

Following an executive committee meeting, BVI Softball Association Chief Umpire and acting president Glenford “Chappy” Maduro, said that they have set Jan. 30 for a meeting between the board of managers and the executives. During that meeting, managers should have rosters ready for the 2017 fast pitch league, which has been tentatively set to open on Mar 11. The election of officers to the association’s body has been set for Feb. 13. After several meetings over the last two years with an eye toward electing a new executive body, Maduro said it has been a tough task getting people to commit. “Some people stay on the outside and say what needs to be done, but, when you get in there, it’s a totally different ballgame,” he noted. “The support you get from players, fans and business community in terms of sponsorship to help us in presenting awards to players, with the economic problems we’ve been having everyone has tightened up on their budget, so it’s hard in getting awards for players.” Maduro noted that the body has been in place for a while, and that in its constitution, they have added some new positions with hopes of getting more people involved. They’re also hoping that they get a good turnout for elections. Since they have had problems attracting persons for the executive, he said they will allow pre-elecLimin’Times Entertainment Gude

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that compose the main grid contains all of the digits from 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each row or column within the entire square. A partially completed grid is usually provided, which typically has a unique solution.
