The first edition was in 1977 and it has become a major highlight of the BVI racing calendar. With the great hospitality from the tram at the Anegada Reef Hotel, there’s very little reason not to enter. Last year’s races saw seven boats participating, with Eddie Brockbank’s Lucky 7 being the winner. Recapping last year’s starting day, it was a blustery morning with the odd shower but cracking racing conditions. All starters got away cleanly, but sadly for Sweet Revenge, they suffered steering failure just minutes after the start. Not to be deterred, repairs

I can tell as I look around me that I am not the only one around here whose garden is drying up and turning brown. Before our cisterns run dry and our plants all die, what can we do to make it rain, literally? Probably nothing, but there are a whole lot of different superstitions about bringing rain out there in the world. For instance, in southern California, where I grew up, groups of Native Americans have been regularly performing rain dances. These musical rituals are designed to ask the spirits to send rain and have deep roots in several different Native American cultures, but alas, my home state is still in drought. It seems that indigenous people around the world have similar traditions, which should be no surprise since we all rely on rain to grow food and care for livestock. I once read a report from an area called Nagpur, in India, that described farmers’ way to call down rain: a frog wedding. According to the report, a frog wedding pleases the Hindu deities responsible for sending seasonal monsoons that farmers rely on for a Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

bountiful harvest. I hate frogs, but I love weddings, so maybe this might be something for me to try next time I spot Kermit out in the garden. Over in Thailand, people associate cats with rain. According to tradition, the cry of a cat brings rain, so pet cats are placed in baskets and paraded through neighborhoods. If the cat parade comes to your house, you are supposed to splash a bit of water on the cat to make it cry. It’s probably pretty annoying for the cat, but since a bit of water won’t really hurt them, we won’t call the animal cruelty authorities. Scientists do have a way to encourage rain called “seeding” the sky, but conditions have to be just right for it to work. There must be clouds in the sky and it should be coolish. You then have to fly a plane up into the clouds and release small particles of silver iodide. When these particles meet up with a cloud, they encourage rainfall. Sounds almost promising, until you hear that you can only increase rainfall by 10 to 15 percent. Better keep conserving what little water we have.

She Devil
An attractive female who is capable of manipulating men into getting their way – Urban Dictionary
Chapter 16: Beautiful Beginnings I leave in a couple of weeks. Instead of Tampa like I originally planned, I was moving to New York. I wanted a real fresh start away from any drama and from the possibility of running into anyone from the club. I made enemies, and even a friend or two, and I had my ways, but it was time to let go of my past and step into my future. Bobby lives in New York and he invited me out to see the place during the summer. He also told me that the city is a mecca for fashion, so if it was indeed a fashion store I was planning on opening, out there would be a great place to start. He helped me find a storefront in an upscale neighborhood and I signed the deed. Just before the holidays I went back to find a safe neighborhood to live in. I found a decent little starter condo and bought it outright. I didn’t want to worry about that monthly mortgage while I was trying to get the business on its feet. I knew I was about to change my life so drastically that my story could inspire someone to want to go out and own their piece of the world. Right now, I was laying my foundation. I educated myself, now I’m working on getting my business started. For years now, I have had the tattoo 666 on my wrist and they called me the She Devil because I did what I had to do to survive. Truth is, I was not being “bad,” I only retaliated against those who crossed me. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
Lil Ms Britney thought she got away with crossing me. You remember the night she and David locked eyes in the club and I played it off? Well, he told me he knew Britney and that she hired him to to distract me from Troy. Her original plan was for him to get one of his boys to rape me so that I wouldn’t even want to work at the club anymore. David said he was only into drugs, not harming females. What made him interested in finding out who I was it’s because of the way Britney talked about me like she really hated me. His confession is what really pushed me to go to NY and see the place. I knew staying in Florida I was bound to see them again outside the club. David and I did wind up making up, but only after he promised to not hide any more secrets from me. My revenge was sweet though. You see I was the one that convinced David to let me hire one of his guys to rob Troys’ when I knew she was going to be there. Earlier in the week of the robbery I overheard them making plans to spend the night together. I let David know all of this. Britney’s trifling self was lucky she didn’t get a bullet; she had David to thank for that. I told you they were going to get what’s coming to them. *************** They were a misfit group of friends. Each one possesses one of the seven deadly sins. Read the next series of Fast Fiction to find out who is who. 12
When I saw a poster for The Trap, I thought to myself, TI and Mike Epps did a movie, where do I live? Don’t get excited because even with an all star cast, the acting was dry as hell. The funny moments saved me from falling asleep due to boring, but if you ask me, don’t get your hopes up for this one. The movie opens with Sonny (Tip “TI” Harris) a high-end chef in a New Orleans restaurant, in his element catering to those customers lucky enough to score reservations. He’s a chef on the rise, even getting a surprise visit from a food critic at The New York Times. On a break home in Atlanta to visit his mom, Mama Jay (Loretta Devine), Sonny decides to extend his break indefinitely after his mother falls ill. He can make sure she gets the help she needs, plus pitch in at the struggling restaurant owned by his brother Dutch (Mike Epps). Dutch’s problem isn’t that his food is bad. He just happens to have terrible employees. His girlfriend Sherri (Teyana Taylor), has the worst customer service. At one point she breaks into a fight while the restaurant is full of customers. To help make ends meet, Dutch also dabbles in selling drugs. Neighborhood drug man KP (Stephan Bishop) makes Dutch a proposition, but when Dutch tries to refuse, it turns out he didn’t 13
have a choice. Before long, police raid the restaurant, causing an accidental adjustment to the chicken recipe. Suddenly, the brothers have more business than they can handle. Now there’s always a long line through the doors to get service and KP wonders how Dutch is bringing in money so fast. Besides helping his brother, Sonny is also reconnecting with old love interest Sasha (Meagan Tandy) who is now a police officer. Sasha’s partner on the force, known only as Officer Powers (Joel Rush) doesn’t approve of Sasha and Sonny’s relationship. When Powers sees Dutch and his girlfriend in the strip club, he tapes them, thinking to use it to turn Sasha against Sonny. Unfortunately, the video falls into the wrong hands. One day at the hospital, the brothers get a rude awakening from Mama Jay’s doctor – Dr. Obayuwana (Queen Latifah), who tells them their mom needs surgery like yesterday. She advises them to get it together and start acting like men instead of big kids. The brothers take her advice to heart, and tell KP that they’ll no longer be selling his product. Wrong move. Can Sonny and Dutch get the money to pay for Mama Jay’s surgery? What was the magical chicken ingredient? The Trap can be streamed on Netflix. Vol. 31, 3 / May 2 - May 8, 2019
Long Jump Breakthrough Ignites Malone’s Fire Many magical things are done in practice by track and field athletes that for whatever reason, aren’t duplicated in competition when the pressure is on. It happens with every athlete no matter the level. For Long Jumper Chantel Malone, in such a technical event with numerous variables, it has taken four years to surpass the 6.69m (21’11½”) best she established in 2015. Along the way, inconsistency, doubts, frustrations and a general shredding of her psyche have come into play and she even harbored thoughts of quitting. Competing in Georgia on Friday, Malone’s Long Jump breakthrough came with the best series of her life, when on her fifth attempt, she cut the sand at 6.90m (22’7¾”), the best jump in the world so far in 2019. Her performance equaled the 117 All Time mark in event history on the IAAF list. The competition included the best series of her entire career including marks of 6.68, 6.75 before the 6.90. “The crazy part is, everything isn’t together so that’s a good sign for better things to come,” Malone said. “My coach (World and Olympic champion Dwight Phillips) and I had been working on getting my speed up, getting more technically sound after I take off. I would end up rushing the landing, little things that caused me problems in the past, so that was my focus going into this meet.” After the big jump, Malone said she cried because she had been going through a tough period.
“I felt lost. I was doing the work and everything I needed to do and it just wasn’t clicking,” she reflected. “When that happens, sometimes it’s very hard to stay positive or motivated because you’re wondering what’s happening and where is Chantel. For me to come out and get a personal best not once, but twice and have that series that I had, it was everything I visualized.” Malone said that this is just the beginning and she’s really happy for the breakthrough because she needed that reassurance and her main goal has shifted. “I always knew it was there, but I never hit it and was always something that pulled me down on the verge of a break through,” she noted. “Now that it’s out there, it has reignited the fire and the belief in myself so I’m really excited to continue working.” After a horrible Florida Relays performance on March 31, Malone, said at that point, she felt like quitting as nothing seemed to be going right but Phillips told her not to worry about that. “I listened to him, did everything in practice,” she said. “Honestly, his experience as an athlete resonates with me because he understands my frustrations or if I’m trying to explain something, it might not be the correct words used, but he understands it. That plays a major role in it and just having a level of trust, which I think is important in any coach-athlete relationship, so I think that has been a major key for me.”
