Roundup This Week’s Feature Story by Chrystall Kanyuck-Abel Screening the Stage As if that weren’t enough to spark hijinks, Francis gets hired to assist another client as well: Rachel’s boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. If he wants to keep either job, he can’t let his two bosses (or governors… Get it?) know that he is also working for the other. Written by Richard Bean and based on a commedia d’el arte play called The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni, the play received praise from critics when it debuted in 2011, and it was nominated for seven Tony awards in 2012 including best costume design, best original music, and best direction. It also earned star Corden that year’s Tony for Best Actor in a Play. Catch other shows in this year’s series throughout the winter and spring, including Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Dec. 3; The Deep Blue Sea on Jan 28th; Three Penny Opera on Feb 25th, No Man’s Land on March 25th, and Amadeus on April 29th. Showings are at 7pm, and tickets can be purchased for $20 at the door or $15 in advance from House, Sensus or Sunny Caribbee. For more information about the series, visit www.Facebook.com/BVITheatreSeries.
Appleby and H. Lavity Stoutt Community College bring a touch of Broadway or London’s West End to the BVI with high-quality recordings of live theater productions screened in the college auditorium beginning this weekend, when One Man, Two Guvnors shows on Saturday the 29th. Set in Brighton during the swinging sixties, One Man, Two Guvnors is a music-filled comedy starring James Corden (The Late Late Show with James Corden) as Francis Henshall, a loveably naïve assistant to small-time criminal Roscoe Crabbe. Trouble begins for Francis when it turns out that Roscoe is really Rachel, the twin sister of the recently deceased Roscoe, posing as her brother to collect some money due to him.
