Good Things Come in Threes Like many readers, I was surprised and impressed to read the news that the BVI recently gained a set of triplets. I’m sending hearty congratulations to the triplets’ mama, who I hope considers herself especially blessed. Still in the early-ish stages of motherhood myself, I’d also like to send this mom prayers and strength, since I’m sure the babies will bring plenty of hard work as well as joy. Did you know that three is considered an especially fortunate number in many traditions around the world? Chinese folks consider the number three very lucky because it sounds like the word for life. For those who follow numerology (it’s like astrology, but with numbers), three is associated with positive energy, representing a person with a breadth of creativity and good ideas. Naturally, the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit will come to mind first for most of us, but it doesn’t stop there. Actually, three ap-

Similarly, the ancient Greeks revered Hecate, a goddess with three faces; and told tales of three Fates, three Furies, and three Gorgons. Buddhists are primarily concerned with the three aspects of humanity (mind, body and speech). Other faiths include the Rule of Three, wherein all your actions whether good or bad will come back to you three-fold; or the concept of the Three Treasures (compassion, frugality and humility). And of course, who can forget the trio of Wise Monkeys from Japanese legend, named so because they see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil. I’m sure this special trio of little ones will grow up well-known and well-looked after. I hope the good fortune of the rule of threes follows them as they grow up.

I’ve been telling you guys about director Chris Stokes’ You Got Served, House Party 4, Boy Bye) for a minute now. Well he did it again in this film for me. Some may argue differently, but as I like to say, everyone has their own taste and opinions, you may or may not like it. In Running Out of Time, newly widowed Brenda Harper (Tasha Smith) and her family are taken hostage over a file from her late husband’s past. When Brenda’s husband Clarence (Sean Dominic) was still alive he worked for Senator (Michael Toland). Apparently, during this time he found some information that could destroy the Senator’s career. After her husband’s funeral, Brenda decided to take a break from the city and spend some time at her vacation home with her mother Dolly (Telma Hopkins) and daughter Kristen (Sydney Elise Johnson). Not even 24-hours in, her late husband’s best friend Cain (RonReaco Lee) showed up to beg for her forgiveness as Agent Spears (Dustin Harnish) and Trent (Paul Logan) burst into her home and held Cain, Brenda and her family hostage. 11
The duo was in search of a file that her husband had kept with information on the Senator. If she didn’t comply, their plan was to kill her family and frame her for it. What they didn’t know was that she had no idea about the file they were talking about. After searching her entire vacation home – including her safe – they came up empty handed and were left even more frustrated. When things continued to take a turn for the worse, Brenda remembered that her husband’s lawyer had called and told her to come and collect a package that her husband had left for her. Praying it was the package, she prepared herself accompanied by Cain to go and collect it. Pause! Now I know you noticed that these two kidnappers allowed her and Cain to go for this package alone. What’s the connection here? You see, Cain was in on the scheme all along and when things were not going as planned, his connection was revealed. What is Cain’s connection to the file and what does he want with it? Will the file be found and how does the story end? Running Out of Time can be streamed on Netflix. Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 14: Tribulations
Things have been gloomy for all three ladies these past weeks since their last outing. They were all still in shock that Beth’s favorite boy toy had a boy toy of his own, and to make matters worse, Beth just found out that she’s carrying Derek’s child. Since she never had a regular period in the last two years, she couldn’t detect that she was pregnant and she also never showed any symptoms. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sarah’s husband hadn’t been home in a month. He at least had the manners to call every Friday of the month to tell her he’s going out of town on business then hung up not caring to find out if his wife needed him. She paid her detective to follow his every move now and not just to the airport. She wanted to know what vehicle he got in when he landed, where it dropped him off and who he was with each time. She was tired of his behavior and to her, he had clearly forgotten the clause in their marriage that said if he cheats, she walks away with half of his assets. Seeing that they built the business together, he would have to buy her out if he wanted to keep it. Sarah had been beating herself up more lately trying to figure out where her marriage went wrong and why her husband was treating her like she didn’t exist. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Liz, on the other hand, had gotten rid of her crazy ex but she was still scared. She may have gotten rid of him but she needed a lot to therapy to get her life back and start living it with her head held high. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Right now, the ladies were at Sarah’s home consoling Beth and trying to figure out what her next move would be. She loves her best friends but she still thought that she owed it to Derek to tell him about the baby so she bid them farewell, and headed home to freshen up before meeting up with him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Hi babe, I was so surprised that you called to say you were coming by. I thought you hated me,” Derek said to Beth as she entered his home. “I hate you for not telling me that you swing both ways. You didn’t even give me the opportunity to decide whether this is something I wanted to get caught up in. You even looked me in the eyes and told me you had no idea who Angel was Derek,” Beth told him. “Anyway, I came here to tell you that I’m pregnant and I’m not leaving until we reach an agreement on how we will handle this situation. To be honest, I don’t want my kid raised in separate homes and I’m not even sure if I want to be a mom but the doctor said I will be one in eight months,” Beth continued. “If you decide to keep the baby, I’ll be there with you every step of the way. Even if it means letting Angel go so I can be in my child’s life,” Derek said. The next thing Derek heard was a loud bang.

Moving On Up Our older readers might remember that sitcom where the theme song was “moving on up to the top; I finally get a piece of the pie”. As your Limin’ Times therapist, I would really be doing you a disservice if once in a while I did not talk about a topic that everyone is interested in… making money. Many of us are afraid to say we would like to earn more but we secretly do. We want to be successful and some of us even want to try our hand at being entrepreneurs. Here are a few ways to consider how you can move a little further along in your quest for prosperity: • Consider what you are really, really good at. You know you can’t go to Broadway if you can’t sing. Therefore, when considering a way to make some extra money or to launch an idea, think of what skills you already possess that you are comfortable with, something people praise you for a lot or something you are constantly sought out for. The better you are at it, the easier it will be to monetize it and it won’t even feel like work if it is easy. • Try to fill a need that no one else is filling. What’s the thing you hear everyone lamenting about or asking for or what need do you yourself often have. If you can find a way to solve a particular problem that people are having, they will pay you well because people do not like inconvenience. Even if your idea is not brand new, but it’s something that works in other similar locations, then it can be worth a try here. • Brainstorm with other persons. Nothing kills an idea more than dream squashers …so find persons who are entrepreneurial or creatives and brainstorm with them. You might end up with enough ideas for everyone to be able to get one or even be 13
able to form a partnership where you can combine your skills. • Ensure your idea is marketable. Just because you like lettuce wrapped hot dogs, doesn’t mean there are enough health-conscious people around to make your idea the next big thing. Ensure there is a market for it and it’s something people will be willing to spend on; which leads to the next point… • Do informal surveys. All those friends you have on facebook and the 46 cousins and the 84 persons who read your WhatsApp status are all good subjects to test your ideas. Most people don’t want to give a lot of time so don’t ask essay questions, but rather ask preferences where they can just tick a box or choose an option; for example, how much would you be willing to pay for a remote to operate your window from your bed a. 20 b. 25. C. 50 • Start with what you already have. If you have a garage, a spare room, a computer or 600 friends on Facebook, start with that before you rush out to rent space, buy expensive equipment or pay for a mailing list. The lower you can keep your start up costs, the better for you. Using a student who just graduated from IT is cheaper than an established firm and he or she is likely to be very eager to please to get his or her name out there. • Be prepared to work hard. I know I will lose some of you with this one but many of the persons who are wealthy did not inherit their wealth. They had to work long hours because they couldn’t afford staff and they had to make some sacrifices in terms of time and money. A Golden Moment; 36 Years In The Making Ever since I was on that inaugural delegation to the Pan Am Games in Caracas, Venezuela in 1983, there are some words I’ve been waiting to hear. In Lima, Peru last week, I finally heard them. “And Pan Am Games champion…….” It was a surreal moment hearing Chantel Malone’s name called. I think back to 40 years ago when the Pan Am Games were in Puerto Rico and I couldn’t attend, because we didn’t have an Olympic Committee. The Pan Am Games was the catalyst for its formation. Then on Aug 6, 2019, Malone buried the field on her first jump when she cut the sand at 6.68m (21’11”), a mark none of her 13 pursuers would surpass. Just four years ago in Toronto, a medal slipped from her grasp in the final round of competition. In Lima however, she ended a 36-year medal drought. “This is amazing,” Malone said. “We know how the season started with a great bang and then I had an injury, been up and down with performances and trying to figure things out. And to come here and come out with the gold, that means everything to me.” She said after her opening jump, in her mind she wanted to go further but as it got colder and colder— with temperatures dipping to 59 degrees—it became harder. Malone explained that her thought process heading into the competition was not to focus on what happened in the past nor anyone else. “Coach and I were talking and he said ‘you need
to be a dog from the get go and let people chase you and you don’t chase them,’” she pointed out. “Normally, I would do good as I progress, but honestly, I just went out there, trusted the process and tried to execute and that’s the result that came.” Malone said she’s happy with her performance which she hopes will inspire other young athletes. “Winning gold is a big deal,” she said. “It lets the world know that the BVI is there. We’re small, but we have a lot of talent and I’m just happy to be an ambassador for my country.” After jumping a world leading 6.90m at the time then getting a hamstring injury, her coach, Olympic and World Championships gold medalist Dwight Phillips, said he was grateful Malone was able to come out victorious. He said they had been working on hitting the World Championships standard of 6.75m on the first jump, an improvement she has been making. “The conditions were quite cold, not the best conditions, but she has been able to come out victorious,” said Phillips, an Olympic champion Long Jumper and four times IAAF World champion. “I have my first medalist in the Pan Am Games and I’m grateful for that,” he said. “It’s more rewarding coaching someone to a gold than actually winning the gold medal myself.” The BVI and Aruba were the only two medal-less members of the Pan Am Sports 41 teams. Malone’s feat changed that and Aruba won a sailing bronze.
