As droplets of rain sporadically pierce the dry, humid air that has been the constant that is our weather lately, my thoughts are increasingly turning to that kitchen garden that I keep meaning to get around to starting. A recent errand run with the little ones provided the perfect opportunity for a geography refresher on cloud types and what they mean for the amazing weather we usually have year round in these beautiful Virgin Islands. Suffice to say, the intricacies of cumulus and nimbostratus cloud properties have long since slipped through my grasp. As they discussed which clouds help to determine the various types of weather, I couldn’t help but reflect on the extensive dry spell we’ve been having here in the territory. The Virgin Islands has been experiencing what might be considered an extensive period of drought. In fact, much of the Caribbean has either been under a drought watch or warning according to information released in the latest Caribbean Drought Bulletin. While forecasts have suggested that we can expect a few more showLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

ers in the coming days, the weather is expected to revert to sunny and dry in the not too distant future. As for the rainfall that has been gracing us so far this week, it must surely be seen as an incredible boon for the many depleted wells and echoing cisterns around the BVI. We should also spare a thought or two for the farmers in the BVI whose produce and livelihood depend on wet weather to a significant degree. Meanwhile, I will continue to keep a pleading eye and a prayerful watch out for those stratus clouds.

Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 4: Down Memory Lane
Saturday 2:59pm Sarah decided since she was home alone as usual she would search every inch of her home for any evidence of why her husband was hardly home. She was going to start with downstairs, and the obvious first – her husband’s home office. After an hour of searching high and low, she didn’t find one bit of evidence. No room was left out; she searched the laundry room right down to the half bath. When it was over, Sarah headed upstairs to the guest bedrooms and bathroom. Just to be sure, when she entered their bedroom, Sarah searched her walk-in closet first just in case Brian was slick and hid something in there. She only turned up empty handed, as there was nothing out of the norm. It was now well into the night by the time Sarah began her search. She was now approaching her husband’s walk-in closet and froze at the entrance. She was so sure that she would find something he was hiding in there that she hesitated. After a long sigh, she made her way in and decided that she was going to check all of his pockets first. There wasn’t even a paper in any of them. She was beginning to think he wasn’t hiding anything in the house at all but continued her search. She took down all the boxes from the top shelves and began to go through them one by one. She was on box number four when she found a stack of pictures they had taken in their first year of marriage. Looking through the pile took her down memory lane. She was about to put the stack back when she looked in the box and saw some old pictures, one of the day they went to the amusement Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
park and began to smile. She remembered that day like it just happened. “Baby lets take a picture right here, it looks so exotic, would be nice to look back on this when we get old and gray,” Sarah told Brian. “Girl, I’ll never get gray, I’ll stay this handsome forever,” Brian joked as he found a passerby to take the picture of them. Brian was so head-over-heels in love with Sarah that he promised himself that this would be the girl he spends his life with. After riding most of the rides, the couple decided to take a break and get some lunch. While they were eating, Brian stood up in the middle of the eating area and declared his love for Sarah. Sarah was so taken aback from that memory that she never realized she was crying until the tears dropped on the picture she was holding. As she dug deeper in the box, she found another picture, this one was from their first year of marriage from their trip to the Caribbean. The couple had checked into their room and decided to take a walk around the resort premises before dinner although it was a rainy day. They were on their way back when the rain came down and as Brian was hurrying her to get to shelter, Sarah grabbed his hand and pulled him into a kiss. One of the hotel guests who happened to have been a photographer captured the image of them and and presented it to them. “What the hell are you doing going through my things?” Brian asked, scaring Sarah a bit and causing her to drop the photo. 12
How to win: The object is to insert numbers in the boxes to satisfy only one condition: each row, column and 3x3 box must contain the digits 1 through 9 exactly once. It’s harder than it sounds!

Eldred Henry launches the BIG One It was a big weekend for the territory’s athletes on the Collegiate scene competing in the NCAA Division I and II Track and Field Championships, but none bigger than Eldred Henry’s Shot Put throw to shatter the NCAA Division II Championships mark. On his third attempt after opening with 19.62m then following up with a 20.62m effort, just .01cms off his bronze medal Central American and Caribbean Games personal best set last year, the Findlay Junior launched the big one that measured an astounding 21.47m. It was the best measurement in all levels of NCAA Divisional competitions over the weekend. The mark erased his 20.56m outdoors season’s best after 20.61m indoors and vaulted him from No 30 on the 2019 IAAF list, to No 9. Henry’s launch, that landed 70 feet 5¼” in imperial measurements, is the 75th best all-Time mark in the history of the event— globally! In the process, Henry shattered his own 20.63m BVI National Record, his own OECS Record, his School, Conference and Championships Records, and outright qualified him for the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar slated for Sept 29-Oct 6. Remarkably, in a country with just 32,800 inhabitants (2017), the territory has an athlete with the No 1 Long Jump mark in the world in this year in Chantel Malone, Henry at No 9 in the Shot Put, and Kyron McMaster who uncovered his 400m Hurdles campaign in Guadeloupe with 49.37 seconds last week at No 16. Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
The trio have all qualified for Worlds, which will be preceded by the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru from August 6-10. The weekend also saw three of four athletes qualifying for the June 5-8 NCAA Division I Championships in Austin, Texas with two in individual events for the first time since Illinois’ Ashley Kelly and Texas’ Chantel Malone, in 2011. Competing in the NCAA East Regional, Clemson Junior, Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner advanced to the championships for a second successive year when she finished fifth in her 400m Hurdles heat and seventh overall after combined times in 57.21 seconds. It’s a new personal best and National Record, eclipsing the 57.23 established last year. Florida Junior, Kala Penn, coming off a 13.36m National Record effort in the SEC Championships, advanced to her first championships with a leap of 13.05m, the 11th best mark of the competition. University of Central Florida Freshman Beyonce DeFreitas, anchored her 4x100m Relay team to 43.72 seconds and made it to the big dance. While he did not advance to the championships, Indiana Freshman Rikkoi Brathwaite ran a 100m personal best of 10.35 seconds in the quarter finals, becoming the BVI’s fastest debuting freshman since track and field athletes began competing Collegiately in 1976. He also recorded a 21.02 seconds 200m best this season—the best times for a first year BVI collegian. 14
