Walk to End Alzheimer’s Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of dementia cases. Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. The greatest known risk factor is increasing age, and the majority of people with Alzheimer’s are 65 and older. Some signs that you have the disease are difficulty remembering things that just happened, inability to plan or solve problems, mood and personality changes and trouble completing familiar tasks.
Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.
Alzheimer’s worsens over time and is a progressive disease, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years. In its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer’s, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment. In honor of World Alzheimer’s Awareness (September), the VI Alzheimer’s Association is having a Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Friday at 4:30pm beginning from the Noel Lloyd Park. Immediately after the walk there will be a Candlelight Vigil to smash Alzheimer’s Disease. There will be purple and red t-shirts on sale and they can be purchased by emailing bvialzaware@gmail.com.

Confident, strong willed and family-oriented are just a few words that can describe Sakeda. She’s a mother who will make any and every sacrifice to succeed and make her children happy. Like many others who worked a nine-tofive and never found it satisfying, she decided it was time to do something that she loved and enjoyed doing. As a lover of beauty and fashion, she decided to build the ‘Badkitty Empire’ which has since grown into two branches, ‘Badkitty Apparel’ and ‘Kitty Tresses’. “I did a certification in cosmetology and really enjoy beauty and fashion. My personality inspired my business ventures and my mood often dictates my hairstyle/colour. I love to dress up. I want to help others elevate their style as well,” Sakeda shared with Limin’ Times recently.
Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
In becoming an entrepreneur, Sakeda felt that her biggest challenge was overcoming the perception of others. She expressed that doubters and negative thoughts often impacted her decision-making process to the point where she wondered and struggled with the idea of even going forward with building her brand. “Once I got over what others thought, I knew that I would be able to accomplish my goal,” she said. Sakeda would like persons who are interested in starting their own business to know that they have to believe in themselves first. “Don’t let negative thoughts of others distract you from pursuing your dreams, and once you have a passion for it you will succeed,” she advised. To contact Badkitty, you can reach her at (284) 443-6010 or via Face Book at Bad Kitty Apparel and Kitty Tresses.

Back To School For Parents So, most of us who are parents and aunts and uncles and grandparents just spent the equivalent of a whole month’s mortgage getting the children ready for school with new uniforms, backpacks, supplies, shoes, etc. We also proudly posted pictures on WhatsApp and Facebook for the world to see how well dressed and put together our little ones were and judging from all the photos I saw, I can tell you, they looked good; from the young shy ones starting school for the first time, right up to the older ones who grudgingly allowed their photos to be taken. Let’s go a step further and consider what are some things we can do to help our little and not so little students have a good school year. • Ensure they eat well. The brain needs proper food to function and so does the body to ward off illness. Help them to minimize the use of sugar and eat more fruits and vegetables and nuts and drink water. If necessary, extra vitamin C or other vitamins can also help them to stay stronger. • Find a balance between home chores and homework. When they are in classes that require more homework, lessen the house chores so that they can spend quality time getting important work done. Do not eliminate the house chores all together as we want to teach our children a sense of responsibility and in life after school, they will have to manage several tasks. • Attend all PTA meetings. Know what’s going on in your child’s school and even if you can’t attend the entire meeting, try to be there for at least a part of it and talk to your child’s teacher afterwards to get 11
personalized information on how your child is doing in school – academically and behaviorally. • Communicate with them. It’s going to be hard to compete with their phones for the older ones, but talk to your children and more importantly, listen. Listen to them as they talk about their experiences, what they want and need, and share some of your experiences that could help them. Parents and children bond over casual and important conversations. • Do spontaneous room checks. As cute and sweet as they are, sometimes they do yield to peer pressure and act out. Doing spontaneous room checks in their presence can reveal if they are bringing in things or engaging in activities which you would not approve. • Don’t compromise on rest and recreation. It’s important that the Wi-Fi goes out at a reasonable time so our children are not online at 2 and 3am. Rest is vital to their health and wellbeing. Recreational activities like swimming or music or sports help them in so many ways to have fun and also learn discipline and social skills. • Teach them soft skills. There are some things that are not covered in our school’s curriculum that are essential for our children to learn - things like budgeting, building confidence, boosting their selfesteem and even basic etiquette. These skills will help them now and in the future. As parents and guardians, our input and support is invaluable to their success.

Seven Deadly Sins Lust Strong Sexual Desire “He knew his lust for her had returned.’ This was the fourth time this week that Anthony had run past Diana’s home while on his late evening jog. He would sneak a glance at her in the window but always forced himself to look away and keep going. He did not know her personally, but he had seen her around for years, he always thought she was an exquisite piece of art. When he realized he couldn’t contain himself, he temporarily moved into an apartment on the other side of the city trying to get his craving for her out of his system. Anthony had no relationship interest in Diana, he just wanted one night with her. Just a taste. At work Anthony flirted with all of his female co-workers but never actually made a pass at any of them. He anxiously waited until it was time to leave so he could see her on his jog. No matter who he slept with he never seemed to have that much interest – in his mind, they were no Diana. May 18th, 2018, 7:45pm. Anthony was on his way back to his place when he saw Diana in her window in a thin, see-through dress. He was about to be on his merry way when he heard her call out to him. She told him that she noticed him every Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
time he passed and that he would be directly outside her window at 7:15. He just stared into her eyes unable to speak. When Diana saw that he was lost for words, she took it to mean that he was shy, so she kissed his lips until he kissed back. He came to his senses and started caressing her body, then led her to the couch. As their breathing became harder, he remembered that he was jogging and stopped to ask her where the bathroom was. He took her with him. The water was running but she was already wet. Diana’s tongue became the washcloth as she kissed every inch of his body, not missing a spot. As she paused and looked up into his eyes as if she was seeking his approval, the look that Anthony gave her caused the heat to rush through her body even more. When he couldn’t take it anymore, Anthony took the lead again. His touch was like oil on her skin – smooth, sensual and exotic. Diana’s body started to tremble. When Anthony felt the wetness in his hand he looked down and saw that his hand was in his pants and all that just happened was only his imagination.

In the opening scene of Falling Inn Love we see Gabriela (Christina Milian) losing her job as her San Francisco designing firm folds and witness her break up from her boyfriend Dean (Jefferey BowyerChapman). She enters a ‘Win an Inn’ contest and wins one overlooking New Zealand’s countryside. The next morning, she arrives in New Zealand (hey this is TV, anything is possible). She first encounters local hot guy, Jake (Adam Demos), who crashes his truck into her luggage which then rolls downhill as she tries to find cell phone reception. After refusing Jake’s ride into town, she then goes into the inn she had won. What a total mess! The inn looks nothing like what she saw online. She also ends up with an unlikely guest, whom she will eventually come to love – Gilbert the goat. Gabriela decides that she will fix up the inn and turn it into her dream home and wins the support of some locals in the process, like a hardware store guy named Norman, and a gardener Shelly (Claire Chitham), who has her own unaddressed problems with relationships. Gabriela is at first resistant to getting help from Jake in order to assert her independence, dismiss13
ing him anytime he appears when she’s in town meeting the other locals. But as tension goes, that’s not sturdy enough a reason for her to deny the attraction we know she feels. After giving into the idea of Jake helping her fix the inn, they both decide to share expenses 5050 and once the Inn is sold, they would split the earnings. Not only do Jake and Gabriela work well together, but they eventually go out on a few dates; both still denying how they feel about each other. Don’t be fooled, everything doesn’t run smoothly. Take Charlotte (Anna Juienne), the uptight local who wants Gabriela gone from the moment she set foot in town. She even goes as far as trying and buy the inn from Gabriela, long before she fixes it up. It appears to be that the inn was supposed to be hers or so she claims. Charlotte even meddles in Gabriela’s personal life, which in turn brings an unlikely visitor to New Zealand. How does the final restoration of the inn and selling go? Who does Charlotte invite to New Zealand and do Jake and Gabriela stop denying their feelings for each other? Falling Inn Love can be streamed on Netflix. Vol. 31, 23 / Sept 19 - Sept 25, 2019
BVI Basketball Federation Making Positive Moves Less than six weeks after being elected in June, the BVI Basketball Federation fielded a team in the Paradise Summer Jam in St. Thomas. Considering the dormancy of the sport under the previous executive, it sent a signal that the new body means business. “It wasn’t about winning but giving exposure to the young guys and seeing where we are in basketball in the territory,” BVIBF President Dereck Varlack said on a recent Sports Beat Magazine Program. “It’s better to give them the exposure than letting them hear about it or seeing it on TV, but just developing their talent by actually playing in the sport itself. While most people look at it as a defeat, the Vice President (Jason Edwin) and I, look at it as we accomplished something great, because the players reached a stage where they see the level of the competition and where they need to go. In essence, we lost (games) but we actually won.” Edwin said the mission was to expose some of the players they had in mind to the collegiate game and wanted that particular platform to showcase their talent. “Saying in their ears or in a little meeting wouldn’t be enough,” he noted. “It was for us to man a team, go down, suit up and learn in the fly what it would take on an off the floor when you wear the BVI uniform.” In outlining basketball’s direction, Varlack said they have to return to the Biddy Leagues, get the sport in the Primary Schools and getting outside training assistance.
“We have a lot of talent here, but, we’re very raw,” he said. “We need to have the proper training to give the guys the level of playing basketball in and out of the territory. We need to have trainers for our coaches, referees and players. With everything, it takes financing. We’re going to do our part with fundraising. We’re looking for the government to do their part and realize that sport is a big part of industry in the BVI and they have to get on board with us to do what we say we want to do.” Varlack confirmed that they will be fielding a Women’s team in the 2020 CBC Tournament as well as a Men’s team. Regarding leagues, Varlack noted there are three major leagues in the territory and there has been overlap. His aim is to meet with the entities and have a proper plan in place for the leagues. Anyone planning an event, it must come through the BVIBF, which is the governing body of the sport in the territory. “This way, players can get the best of the leagues in the territory,” he said. “You’re going to be playing year round.” Varlack said the BVIBF will be raising funds to put the plans in place they’re developing and are working on a structure and a financial picture of what it will cost to run basketball in the territory.
