Love the ‘Old Government House Museum’ The original structure of the Old Government House Museum dates back to the 1800s, but it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1924. The present structure was built on the same site and became the home of Commissioners, Presidents, Administrators and Governors until 1999. When the new Government House was built, the old structure was transformed into a museum showing a range of high end furniture, historical documents, and other odds and ends from throughout the territory’s history. It was also a popular destination for student groups and tourists alike prior to its destruction in the 2017 storms. The museum has an important place in the history and culture of the people of the Virgin Islands as a place of purposeful activity: it hosted official functions, social and charitable gatherings, and Royal visits, all of which engaged the local community.

Lime ... “to hang around idly” or “to go out on the town.” Source: The Dictionary of Virgin Islands English Creole by the late educator and historian Lito Valls. The Limin’ Times brings you all the news about when and where to “lime” in the British Virgin Islands.

On Saturday, at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, The Old Government House Museum Board, Local Musicians and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College will join to host a Christmas Concert to restore life to the museum. Musicians will render traditional and local Christmas Carols in the joy of celebrating Christmas. The public will also be treated to musical performances by Alred Frett’s Group, Ian Smith and son, Julia Leonard, Allen Brewley’s Group, Charles Wheatley, Elliott Jackson, the Old Timers, the Fraser Group, and the Milton Malone Group. Residents are invited to share in the joy of the season and show some love to the Old Government House Museum. Admission to the concert is $10 adults and $3 children and college students at the door, with proceeds supporting the museum’s rebuild. Doors open at 7:30pm and the concert starts at 8pm.

I find that most people around here have a good idea of how they will be celebrating the end of the year well before Old Year’s Night. Maybe you’re going to church or to watch the fireworks at Trellis Bay or to Foxy’s legendary Old Year’s Night bash. As long as you celebrate safely, I say go nuts. For those who don’t bother with celebrating, or anybody who wants an additional way to mark the turning of the year, I have some ideas. 1. Do some journaling. The turning of the calendar year offers a chance to look back on the successes and shortcomings of the past 12 months. Whether you look at it through the lens of goals achieved, contributions to your community or industry, new skills acquired, adventures taken or passions pursued, taking stock on the old year will help you enter the new one with the right perspective. 2. Inspiration check. Think hard about a time over the past 12 months when you felt the most inspired. Where were you? Who was around? What were you working on? Whether it’s a certain calling or just your favorite community of people, use what you find to maximize your levels of inspiration for 2019. Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

6

3. Release what no longer serves you. This is a tradition I learned from my cousin, and one we do together when we get a chance. Write down all the things that have held you back in 2018. Maybe it’s a fixation on an old flame, an unhealthy habit, or a job that no longer suits you. Even if it’s just one thing, put it on paper. Then, light a fire and let the paper (safely!) burn to ashes. As it burns, focus on the paper and imagine that it is the thing you’ve written there. Move into 2019 lighter knowing you can release whatever it is not just symbolically, but in reality too. 4. Make a rememberlutions jar. This idea comes from Tracy Clayton, a writer whose work I love. Step one is to get a jar and decorate it in a way that makes you happy (in my case, it would be glitter, but maybe for you it’s National Geographic cutouts or song lyrics or sharpie animals). Put it someplace where you will see it often because step two is to fill it up. For all of 2019, write down awesome things that happen or little moments of joy or anything else positive you know you want to remember. Put your moments, or rememberlutions, into the jar. When it’s almost 2020, dig in and reminisce about your year.

Lights, Camera, Action; Part 2 Chapter 22: Five Years Later

Pierre It’s been five years since we decided to get back together. We took some time to regain trust and love in each other, but it worked! We even got married three years ago. Our family and friends have been very supportive. We’re both nervous and excited to head over to the surrogacy agency. Yup! You heard right. We agreed that we will find a surrogate to carry a child that is biologically mine. Even though we knew it would be impossible for Bella to get pregnant, I was very happy to learn she was open to raising kids. I know in my heart she will be a good mother to our child or children. I don’t know why we were so nervous in the agency. We were both financially stable. Once we got married, we both sold our separate homes and moved into a family-oriented neighborhood. The child’s sex didn’t matter to us; we just wanted a healthy baby. We were offering the surrogate a fee as well as covering all her expenses to make sure she’d have the most comfortable pregnancy possible. Bella I still can’t believe I’ve found the one to spend the rest of my life with. God sent me a blessing in my husband. It feels so freeing to finally drop the act of being the perfect professional women and just be who I am. I just wish my Dad was still alive to see me being successful and about to start a family with the love of my life. Once the baby gets here my mom will come and visit more often. Guess what? Jazz and I are neighbors again, she got a house in our neighborhood so she can be close. I hope the surroundings will influence on Jazz 13

and her hubby to start a family soon too. I’d love if our kids could grow up together. Jazz It’s been years since the clown show with Shelly and I’m in a happy place. I worried the coverage of the trial would hurt my brand, but business is doing better than ever. I’m even thinking of opening a new location in New York. I also kicked Kevin to the curb after my case. I told him if he comes near me again, I will press charges. About two years ago I met what seems to be a nice guy. We’re trying to take it slow, but honestly it’s been great. Bella already refers to us as married. I get to see her a lot since selling my old home and moving near her and Pierre. Kevin Since my wife and I divorced I lost contact with some associates and gained new ones. I wasn’t pulling in the kind of clients I had before, but I was still making it. Plus, I was truly doing it on my own. I realized some of these old geezers are just like me or worse, so they weren’t going to leave me as clients. I guess I’m still a dog and that won’t change. I just won’t ever keep anyone around longer that a few weeks. Shelly I still can’t believe it! I’m serving seven years in jail because I lied to the system and wasted the law’s time. Me and this damn mouth of mine. Isn’t life a bitch? The End. …………………………………………………………………................… She did whatever it took to survive, 666 was the tattoo on her wrist. They called her the She Devil. Coming January 2019 Vol. 30, 37 - 38 l Dec 20 - Jan 2, 2019

When I came across The Holiday Calendar, I said to myself, ‘Here we go again, another cheesy Christmas movie.’ Then I saw that it stars Kat Graham, who you might remember from her role in The Vampire Diaries. She’s great in that, so I thought I should give this possiblycheesy flick a chance. (May as well confess here that I still watch and love cheesy movies.) In a The Holiday Calendar, struggling photographer Abby (Kat Graham) pays her bills by working at a portrait studio for Mr. Singh (Ali Hassan). Abby also hates Christmas and is single. Her best friend Josh (Quincy Brown) has just returned home after spending some time abroad as a traveling photographer. He ends up working with Abby at the studio, and even with all the lovey eyes Josh send Abby’s way, she seems unable to notice that her best friend is in love with her. Despite Abby’s loathing of the holiday, or maybe because of it, her Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

Gramps (Ron Cephas Jones) gives her an old-fashioned wooden Advent calendar. As the days count down, the calendar gives her a figurine. Abby soon realizes that each new figure corresponds with some key event that day. Could the antique calendar be magically predicting her Christmas season? As the movie continues, Abby starts dating the too-good-to-be true doctor Ty (Ethan Peck). Things seem to be going great until she shows him her calendar. Then, to top it off, a mishap at work costs her her job. A little pep talk from her sister Sarah (Genelle Williams) puts Abby in better spirits. She even cheers up enough to photograph her niece’s school play, which gets Abby some recognition that she desperately needs to take her photography career to the next level. Will Abby meet the guy of her dreams for the holidays or get that job she really wants? The Holiday Calendar is now showing on Netflix.

Who Love Least Has The Power Dear Koren, Is it a fact that in every relationship one person will always love more than the other one? If this is so then should I as a woman try to find a relationship where the man loves me more than I love him? Maybe then I will guarantee that I won’t get hurt so much because I think I love too hard and I’m always the one who end up and get knock bout. –Frustrated Dear frustrated, Love should not be a game or a competition. Both parties should go into the relationship with integrity, aiming to give their best to the relationship and not counting who is giving more or less. I think you should be proud of the fact that you are a strong loving person, but let me ask you this. Do you love yourself with the same vigor and passion that you put into loving the men you date? Loving yourself means accepting that you are special, valuable, worthy and not accepting getting less than you deserve. When you love yourself, you appreciate and accept an other’s love, but you never look for it to fill a space it just cannot fill. We cannot expect from others more than they are able to give and if we keep having unrealistic expectations…we will constantly be hurt. Yes, in many relationships people love differently and in some instances one partner can appear to love more than the other but there is no meter created whereby we can measure it. I have seen situations where women accuse men of not loving because they don’t say I love you often or take her 17

out but they keep the yard tidy, help with the children, stay faithful and make sure the car is cleaned every Sunday. He acts in a way that expresses his love from the depths of his heart but love to her is the words and going out. Suppose he were to stop doing all he was doing and just laid in bed watching TV and saying “I love you hon” and went out every month end, then what? Would that be enough? All I’m saying is love comes in different shapes, colours, sizes and textures so listen to the guys who try to win you and observe how they demonstrate their love and decide if that suits you. Don’t stop being loving but at the same time, know your worth so that you do not accept abuse or “knock bout” as you put it. It’s best to lay the cards on the table in the early stages of the relationship so you know what they are willing to give and capable of giving and you also can be open about who you are and what you want and do not want going forward. Loving hard is not a guarantee of being hurt just as loving cautiously does not mean you won’t feel the sharp prick of heartbreak. Love is a gift so give it to the right person and if it does not work out, then you are not the one to blame. Heartbreak is painful and messy but not being able to throw your whole heart into a romantic adventure is like living your life halfway. Love yourself with deep compassion first and foremost, choose the right person to be in a relationship with after careful observation and know that love is always a risk worth taking. The Horses Are Back On The Track After facing insurmountable challenges in getting races off the ground in August to mark the 20th anniversary of the Ellis Thomas Downs’ opening, 11 St. Thomas horses will help revive horse racing in the territory, during the first Boxing Day races in two years. Post time is 2pm. BVI Horse Racing Association President Lesmore Smith said he didn’t lose hope nor faith, but continued to push forward after things fell through. “I took a leap of faith all alone, made a lot of effort with countless energy to make it what it will be on December 26,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a good day for all of us in the Virgin Islands. I think it’s going to be a good family reunion after we have gone through so much levels of disasters over the last year. We’ve lost a lot of family, friends and loved ones. I would love all of us to meet in good spirit and good harmony and greeting each other. We’ve come a long way and must be appreciative God’s grace in being good to us for sparing our lives to see yet the closing of another year.” Smith, who will have horses in all five races on the card, said horse racing faced lots of uncertainty following the hurricane as there were no stables or barns to house the horses nor a track for them to

Limin’Times Entertainment Gude

run on. As it’s a challenging expensive venture, it wasn’t going to be the best situation for people to purchase horses and have them in the barns, not knowing what’s next for them. Taking this leap of faith and everyone coming together will energize old horsemen and may even have new ones come on stream and keep the Virgin Islands horseracing spirit alive, he said. St. Thomas Horsemen Association president Clinton Hedrington Jr., said it’s really great to see Smith and his association jump-starting the sport and doing everything they can to get the sport going again, to show some resiliency in the people of the Virgin Islands on a whole. “Doing it in the manner we’re doing it shows that we really, really need to keep the sport going,” Hedrington Jr. said. “Words can’t express my gratitude for Lesmore and the BVI putting this card together. It means a lot to the St. Thomas Horsemen Association too.” Hedrington Jr. will have DQ Rester in the fourth race and Totally Evil in the feature race five. “I expect wins from both of them,” he said. “Nothing less than that to tell the truth. Both of them are doing really, really good. Better than I had expected.”
