Cupcakes & Cocktails Chapter 11: The End Is Near

“Doctor, she’s awake,” Liz heard a woman’s voice say. Looking around her, she realized she was in the hospital. “Hi Elizabeth, I’m Doctor Dean, do you know why you ended up in here?” Doctor Dean identified himself and asked Liz. After Liz filled in the doctor about the last thing she remembered, he excused himself and went to call the police. 24 hours later. “Sorry to bother you Ms. Elizabeth but I need you to look at this file,” Detective James told Liz as he entered her hospital room. He had given her a file on Michael. The horror she found in that file shocked her. It turns out that Michael wasn’t who he said he was all along. He had gotten his name changed and lived many places before. He also had a history of domestic violence against woman and tended to treat them like possessions. Two allegedly committed suicide to get away from him. “Don’t worry Ms. Elizabeth, we will find him and justice will be served,” the detective told Liz. ***** “Who the hell is this person and what do they want?” Beth thought to herself as she read another text sent by the same unknown number. She decided to finally call the number, but got no answer. No sooner had she hung up, than another message came in saying, “You have some nerve to call my phone, just keep away from my Derek.” This time it was signed Angel. Derek was one of Beth’s favorite quest partners. She had been with him for two years and until recently she never had any threats for him or even Limin’Times Entertainment Guide

seen him with another woman. She always thought he was wh*ring like her, whenever she called, he came. She sent Derek a message telling him she’d be coming over in an hour, then went to get ready. “Hi baby, come in,” Derek said as he moved to the side for Beth to enter. Beth didn’t waste any time, she told Derek about the threat she received and showed him her phone with the messages. Derek denied knowing an Angel and turned the tables saying it’s probably some admirer that wants him and saw the two of them together. “You know once a number is registered you can easily get it, maybe that’s what this Angel person did,” Derek offered. “Well you need to watch your back, because she sounds obsessed with you,” Beth told him. “Hmm, let’s go chill and finish this movie I was watching before you got here,” Derek told Beth as he led her to the couch. ****** Sarah was sitting at her desk when her assistant knocked on her door causing her to look up from what she was doing. An urgent package had arrived for her. When she took it, she noticed that it was from her detective. She asked her assistant to close the door on her way out to give her some privacy and told her to hold all calls for the rest of the day. Sarah hesitated to open the package because she wasn’t sure if she was ready to face the contents of it. She took a deep breath and opened it before pulling out a folder. Her hands began to tremble as she opened the envelope. A letter and some pictures fell out, immediately her heart sank as she saw what was in the picture. It was her husband and another woman. 12

Croal: ‘This Season Has Been Great’ There’s only one game left in the season. Either Royal Knights or Road Town Wholesale (RTW) will walk off with the Ralph T. O’Neal Cup in the BVI Cricket Association’s Nagico T20 League on Sunday, as the new champion. Before the season started, Royal Knights manager Gordon French said their aim was ‘to win it all.’ Along the way, they handed Cavaliers their only regular season loss – until RTW knocked them out of the tournament in Sunday’s semi-finals, as they failed to deliver when they needed it most – in getting four runs from six balls. “We made more mistakes chasing 193, made poor shots, we brought it back in our favour down to the last over to get four runs, we lost three wickets for no run,” Captain Vishal Bharat noted of his team that lost by three runs. “We played badly, made more mistakes and we lost the game. We lost crucial wickets, with silly dismissals at the top and in the middle. We needed a partnership down to the end. We tried with couple of us there and it came down to the last with just four runs. The team that makes more mistakes, will lose all the time. We lost today. Congrats to Road Town Wholesale.” Last week, RTW lost to Cavaliers by seven wickets. “Nobody gave us a chance at the beginning of the game but we went out and we stuck to our task,” RTW Captain Joel Williams stated. “We decided to bowl outside the off stump, contain the batsmen

and we did that. We took the catches, great job by the guys. “ Royal Knights opener Richie Fredericks ignited for a season’s best 155, during a 160 partnership with Ryan Mangal, that carried them to 255-7, then restricted Grenada to 202 for a 53-run victory. “It was a hard-fought game but we came out on top and we’re very happy with the performance of the team,” French said. “A few things we have to work on. Credit to Grenada for playing a good game as well, and we look forward to playing in the finals.” French said he told his team they can’t take anyone for granted on the day, despite beating RTW during the season. “It’s one game and whoever comes out and play their best on the day, is going to win the finals,” he noted. “We have to come out and ensure we play the best cricket. They have a couple of guys that can take the game away in terms of their batting, put runs on the board very fast. We have to go out, play good cricket and win the finals.” Williams said they can’t take Royal Knights for granted as both teams want the title. “It’s something we talked about at the beginning of the tournament and we’re here now,” he noted. “Just one more game.” Cavaliers and Grenada will face off at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Greenland, playing for third place while Royal Knights and RTW clash at 1 p.m.
