The Breast Cancer Awareness Club Celebrates 10 Years The sole purpose of the Breast Cancer Awareness Club is to support breast cancer patients, their family and friends, through support group meetings and fund raising activities. Part of their proceeds are often donated to other groups with similar objectives. They are a non-profit organization and have been in operation since 2009. This year, they are celebrating their 10th Anniversary. On Saturday, they will be having a Fun Day ticket sale between One Mart and Rite Way, just look for the pink t-shirts to identify the members.

Have you ever given any thought to what our children go through while there’re in school? I’ve heard many kids say that they get excited because they get to see their friends and hope that they are in their favorite teacher’s class. Unfortunately, many kids aren’t excited to head back to school after a long break like that of summer. It could be that they are going to a new school and are worried about making new friends, or they might be in the unfortunate situation of needing to repeat a class. As parents, our children’s education is very important, and we know that they will learn more if they’re more excited to be at school. Here are a few ways that you can make school more fun for your kids: Don’t make learning seem like a nightmare: Most times we tell our children something like, “You’re going to school because I said so and that’s that.” Instead, show them why getting a good education is beneficial for them. Explain how there’s more to learning than just books. To show them how what they’re learning applies to their daily life, try using differLimin’Times Entertainment Guide

ent objects for an at-home math demonstration that even preschoolers can appreciate. Learn with your kids: Education is not only for the kids. We as parents have to do our part, too. It’s not every time they ask a question we will know the answer. Take up their textbooks or copybooks and read what they learned for that day. Go over it with them so that when test time comes around, you can help them prepare. They’ll be more prepared in the high-pressure exam situation, and you might even learn something new. Listen to their concerns and offer solutions: Whenever my son doesn’t know a topic very well he is not happy. From the moment he got to the age of learning I always instilled in him “Knowledge is power and no one can take away your education from you.” If your child is falling short in a particular topic, help them or find someone else who can. There are many afternoon classes and after-school programs. Not every kid gets the concept the first time around, and by showing your child that asking for help is okay, you’ll also be teaching them an important life lesson.

Listen, if you’re not sure what a crazy woman looks like, just watch this film and study the character Lexi. Fanatic is about a young rapper who is kidnapped by an obsessive fan. In the beginning of the movie we meet Dom D (Hosea Chanchez), an aspiring rapper from a small town. At a show in his town before he blows up, he sees Lexi (Denyce Lawton) and sends his bodyguard Quan (Shawne Merriman) to get her to meet him backstage. The pair end up having a one-night stand. They then part ways. Five years on, and Dom returns to the small town with his wife Zoe (Michelle Mitchenor), Quan and Soca (Sticky Fingaz). That night, Dom, Quan and Soca go to a club and later, Lexi sees Dom in the VIP. She tries to get his attention but Dom doesn’t pay her any mind. She even tries to get close to him but Quan stops her, claiming he does not know her. From my viewpoint, it actually looks as if Quan doesn’t remember her, but five years can do that to a person – especially one you don’t keep in contact with. This only pisses Lexi off and causes her to retaliate. First she attacks a lady in the restroom at the club for saying that she will be Dom D’s baby mother, then she attacks Soca and kidnaps Dom. When Zoe gets a call about Soca being in the hospital and the report that Dom is missing, she goes to the hospital. After Soca dies, Dom becomes the number one suspect. Not 11
for one minute does Zoe believe her husband would attack his friend and skip town. She feel something is wrong and doesn’t give up. While at the hospital, Zoe meets Officer Hardaway (Darius McCrary), whom she encounters several more times throughout the film. Not wanting to give up on her husband, Zoe next does some research on her own. She then finds out that the girl who was the attacker in the club restroom was Lexi, who was also the nurse she met at the hospital. After calling in a favor to a friend, she gets Lexi’s address and shows up at her house; there she finds a shirt belonging to Dom. When Zoe leaves, she runs into Officer Hardaway again, who encourages her to leave town again before it’s too late. Not adhering to his warning, she calls Quan and tells him she needs his help and that she thinks she knows where Dom is. She texts him the address. When Quan shows up to the address, he sees Lexi and instead of following her, her goes to the location that she left. Inside Lexi’s home, Zoe comes face to face with Officer Hardaway again and she also learns some shocking details about Lexi. What is Officer Hardaway’s connection to Lexi and why does he warn Zoe to leave town? What did Lexi really do to Dom? Fanatic can be streamed on Netflix.

Seven Deadly Sins Pride
Consciousness of one’s own dignity. Damn! I can’t seem to catch a break. It was one thing after the next. Everyday I got up trying to be optimistic about my situation, but truth is, if I don’t find a better paying job I will be forever struggling. The little I currently work for barely covers my bills. I don’t know what it’s like to treat myself to something, all thanks to my dad. If he didn’t put me out of the house at 18, I would have never been in this predicament. Just because I wanted to do whatever I wanted with my life after high school, and not work in the family mini-store. I had goals of furthering my education and being something more than a corner store daughter. I didn’t believe in being a stay-at-home woman. I wanted to work for my own and be more than what I have become. I barely managed to graduate from college with my Associate degree, it only took me eight years. You see, I had to work to make a living and because I had nothing but a high school diploma, I couldn’t get anything but basic work. I took classes in the evening after work, but paying bills I couldn’t afford meant I could only take two classes or sometimes maybe just one at a time. Over the years, I managed to rekindle a relationship with my parents, but going back home was never an option. I already got used to my freedom, I didn’t want to go back and end up falling out with my dad again. To this day, he still tells me about coming to take over the store. I always turn him down. If I’m to run that store, it will get a facelift and Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
I would have workers. I would not be in it every day. Daddy didn’t want that. Many times he offered me help, but I refused it. Him throwing it back in my face was not something I wanted to hear for the rest of my life. I was now getting off from work, and because I don’t maintain friendships I was going to the store to get an ice-cream and head home to my lonely place. On my way up the stairs, I could see boxes but I couldn’t tell if someone was by them because of how the staircase was. When I got further up I realized that they were in front of my apartment door and my miserable land lady was there standing by them. The look on her face told me everything I needed to know. This b!#&h was the devil. F@$k! What am I going to do now? I had nowhere to go for the night. That b@$%h put me out. She told me I had two choices, either hand her her owed rent now or leave. I took all my important s*%t and told her to keep the rest for charity. I was now driving in my car – which needed to be serviced by the way. I was praying it didn’t break down before pay day. I found a cheap run down motel to spend the night and prayed to God I could find a place by Saturday. At twenty-six I couldn’t believe that I was homeless, just because I wouldn’t swallow my pride and ask for the help I needed. 12

15 Students Benefit From Cleo’s Basketball Tournament It was a happy day on Monday at the Multipurpose Sports Complex for 15 underprivileged students and their parents from 11 schools across the territory. They received much needed uniforms and school supplies ahead of the 2019-2020 school year, thanks to Cleo’s Miracle Foundation, which organized the Cleo’s Miracle Basketball Tournament in May and used the funds to help the primary and high school students in need. Shaune “Tia” Sampson, whose son benefitted from the initiative, was very surprised. “You don’t normally see people doing this, not for their own gain,” she said. “This is a way someone is giving back to the community not for her own selfish gain, but because she actually cares and wants to give back to the community.” Ivan Dawson Primary School Grade Three Teacher Cleopatra “Cleo” King-DeFreitas, who spearheaded the initiative with her team, said it felt good as some of the students — whom she met for the very first time — were with her when she was purchasing some of the supplies on Monday. “Their reactions were priceless,” she noted. “They were really appreciative of what I was doing. One of the young ladies, today when I took her to wash her hair, she was like ‘you’re taking me to wash my hair,’ her facial reaction told me that she was so appreciative and it made me shed a tear. I took them for breakfast — just a simple breakfast — and they were so appreciative. Sometimes, we don’t know what these kids are going through. So, it’s really warming to say, I’ll do this again.”
King-DeFreitis said while licensing her vehicle on Monday, she told a lady she had a presentation at 2 p.m., and met someone who was telling her of a situation of a lady in need. She took the number, called the person, went to West End and collected her and another student, then took her to J&C Dept Store to get the supplies, expanding the original number of persons from 10 to 15. “She said ‘Cleo, I was praying to God’ — and she was the second person to tell me that — when I called them,” she said. “This is something I’m going to continue doing annually.” Students from Virgin Gorda’s Bregado Flax Primary, Bregado Flax Secondary and Robinson O’Neal; Tortola’s Ivan Dawson, Ebenezer Thomas, Joyce Samuel, Leonora Delville, Willard Wheatley, New Life Pre-school, Elmore Stoutt High School and Althea Scatliffe all benefitted from the initiative. The six girls and nine boys ranged from four to 16 years Etta Pemberton-Duverger said it was a ‘beautiful initiative.’ “It showed that people really do care and there’s a lot of parents who might not be able to give their kids certain things and this will bring that out in the school itself — the teachers who put a lot into taking care of the kids we send into the schools,” she said. “I was very much surprised. I wasn’t expecting this.” Last year, King-DeFreitas — who had 19 surgeries including four brain surgeries in three years — blessed women in need, under her theme of giving back.
