Dancing Under The Stars It’s time again to get out your elegant attire, gather up some friends and dance the night away at Dancing Under the Stars at the Governor’s House. Held this Friday the 25th from 7pm, this fun event is raising funds for the vital work being done by the Family Support Network. Hosted by Governor Augustus Jaspert and Mrs Jaspert and the Tortola Ladies Club, the agenda includes food, drinks, and plenty of music to make you want to boogie from DJ Push Pop. When the event first began, some of the funds raised came from auctions held to dance with BVI stars. As organizers realized that formant made it harder for everyone to get their share of time on the dance floor, the event changed to Dancing Under the Stars. Previous years have seen guest dance instructors, special performances by local dance schools,

Ladies Club members are selling raffle tickets for $5 each (or $20 for a book of five) and you don’t need to be present to win. Contact any Ladies Club member for your chance to win great prizes like an iPhone from Flow, a manicure/pedicure from Sole Spa, a tour for four of Necker Island with Gumption, a signed print by BVI artist Aragorn, a basket of goodies from Sunny Caribbee, a case of liquor from Scaffco, a driftwoodframed mirror from Krezba, dinner for two at Brandywine Bay Restaurant, a day sail aboard Kuralu including lunch and drinks, a surf lesson from BVI Surf School, a day sail for six with Horizon Yacht Charters and more. Dancing Under the Stars tickets cost $60 and are available at Fresh Mango, House, Island Roots, Red Rock and Studio One.

She Devil
An attractive female who is capable of manipulating men into getting their way – Urban Dictionary
Chapter 3: The Plan “Look Troy, if I catch you with Britney again I’ll cripple your ass and that’s a promise!” I screamed at him. I was tired of seeing them tucked away in the corner of the club acting like they’re so in love. I meant it this time, I wasn’t going to warn him again. “Why you tripping Angel baby?” he replied, trying to keep it calm. “You know you’re my number one. There’s enough of me to go around.” He was pouting his sexy lips knowing that they’re my weakness. I felt like shoving him into the wall and walking away, but instead I hauled him into one of the private rooms. I genuinely had feelings for Troy. I knew he was married but I also knew that he and his wife lead totally different lives. I wasn’t one of the naive ones thinking that his wife was going to leave him, I just loved the way he made me feel. These weeks have been slow at the club after that mass shooting. Everyone was shaken up and scared of the night life. The downtime had me thinking about my plan. Based on my looks and my work, people assume I don’t have smarts, but that’s not me. I never waste my money, I invest it. I also give to charity and help when I can. This was not going to be my final job. Right now, I’m saving the seed money to start my own shop someplace the cost of living isn’t so high. At the rate I’m going, it’s only go11
ing to take two more years for me to start my new life. Don’t look at me all judgy. I basically had to raise myself, which doesn’t come with many opportunities for positive role models. If I wound up on what some might call the wrong side of the tracks, nobody should be surprised. I learned a long time ago, that nobody was going to give me anything in life, so I decided to take what I want, even if it means walking on whomever to get it. Look at this body and the money it made, who can look at me and say no? It’s a dog-eat-dog world and I was not about to be somebody else’s lunch. Earlier I’d had a meeting with some consultants who will help me start my business. Can you see your girl back in the classroom? Me neither. They suggested I take a few classes and get certified in my field. If that’s what it takes, that’s what I’m going to do. Instead of going home, from there, I drove straight to the nearby college campus to get the information I’ll need to enroll. It wasn’t so bad. I signed up for spring semester courses that will leave my nights open for the club. I’ll finish the classes I need in 3 semesters, or a yearand-a-half. Cheers to my plan to leave this business and not wind up an old hoe, because what could be sadder than that? Vol. 30, 41 / Jan 24 - Jan 30, 2019
Workplace Romance Dear Koren, I’m going to get to the point. If you know the female HR manager where you work is involved with one of the employees and he seems to get away with certain things and have certain benefits which the rest of us don’t have, what do you do about it? Should it be addressed with an anonymous letter to the general manager or what? – Employee Dear Employee, This sounds like something I have heard before, so it is not uncommon. Sometimes, because they have to work together for a prolonged period, people form attachments. If they are not disciplined enough to resist, they succumb to their feelings. This can happen to managers, directors and other supervisers who do sometimes get involved with each other or with junior employees. Unless the employee handbook has a policy against it once there are no rules broken, there is not much that can be done. I’m not sure how you came by the information that they are involved but if it is just a rumour, then leave it alone. If you see something that looked a bit questionable, again, if they are consenting adults, then just leave it alone. Even if you caught them in an act that clearly demonstrates some romantic involvement, you might then again just be better off leaving it alone. People make their own choices and have to live with the consequences of their actions. You are not their moral regulators. If the employee is your friend and you want to tell him to be careful, that might be okay, but if he is not, you might be Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
violating his boundaries to make an issue of it. Whatever things he is getting away with or whatever benefits he is allowed will not continue forever. If the privileges that he is receiving are negatively affecting the rest of the staff, then sure, something should be done about it. if that’s the case, collectively approach HR as a group, or go above her head to whoever is in charge. You must have concrete evidence though, to be effective. For example, if this worker is not completing his tasks and it is affecting everyone’s ability to do their work and there is documented proof, then you have a case. We will never be able to control everything that happens around us or how other people behave so we have to decide what is worth taking a stance about and what is not worth it. If it’s just a matter of your moral compass being shaken, or if you are just annoyed or jealous, then it’s not worth making a fuss about. In life, we have to pick our battles. If you give the appearance of being bothered by everything, then you will be seen as the problematic one. I understand you probably mean well, but make an assessment of the situation, your feelings and why it is affecting you like that and decide if it is worth reporting it, or if you should just leave it alone. .................................................................................... One of my favorite things about the first movie in this series, Wreck-It Ralph, was being able to watch a big story that wasn’t fuelled by romance. Yes, there was a sugary-sweet princess, Vanellope (Sarah Silverman), at the center of the story. Yes, she was eventually rescued by her special hero, the giant Ralph (John C Reilly). But, at the end of the day, the story was about the way friends help each other, sometimes in surprising and totally unselfish ways. This time around, rather than staying in their arcade home, BFFs Ralph and Vanellope make a foray onto the internet in search of a new steering wheel for Sugar Rush, Vanellope’s cutesy racing game. Since they both hail from a time when video games were a lot more innocent than today, their naivety about money and their shaky understanding of auctions mean that they should probably not be allowed on eBay unsupervised. While they manage to win the special steering wheel, they now have only 24-hours to come up with the huge sum of cash they’ve bid on it. Propositioned by a pop-up ad that promises they can get rich playing video games, Vanellope and Ralph find themselves in an online game called Slaughter Race (think Grand Theft Auto meets a racing game). Slaughter Race’s star racer Shank (Gal Gadot) isn’t about 13
to let Ralph and Vanellope make off with her ride, but after talking to them, she does point them to a better way to make money on the internet: viral videos. Ralph and Vanellope next meet Yess (Taraji P Henson) the algorithm at BuzzTube. Yess says that if Ralph makes videos that earn enough hearts from viewers, they can make the money they need. Soon, we see Ralph’s head on a goat, Ralph doing a hot-pepper eating challenge, Ralph unboxing a tiny toy… You’ve been on the internet, you get the idea. But while Ralph has a clear mission, what will Vanellope to contribute? She’s be an annoying pop-up ad, of course. Certain the internet isn’t safe for Vanellope on her own, Ralph contrives to have her sent to the Disney princess area of the internet. Trouble is, she’s not an authorized advertiser and soon finds herself on the run from the Star Wars storm troopers that provide security in Disney’s corner of the ‘net. Will Ralph’s videos get enough likes to save Vanellope’s game? How will Vanellope get clear of the storm troopers? How will they beat an unexpected and internet-breaking new challenge? Stream Ralph Breaks the Internet on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. Vol. 30, 41 / Jan 24 - Jan 30, 2019
Experiencing the Thrilling Painkiller Cup For years, I’ve heard about the Painkiller Cup, from in its early days, but as a freelance journalist, I’d never covered the event, until Saturday. Honestly, I didn’t even know what to expect. All I’d heard, that it was a 14 miles paddleboard race from Trellis Bay to White Bay, Jost Van Dyke, starting at 10 a.m. Then organizer Andy Morell, explained that the 14 miles race is done by teams of three persons, one of whom must be a woman. Every 25 minutes, they would change personnel. Then, there was a second race, “only” three miles, from Sandy Cay to White Bay, starting around noon or there about. The race began with seven teams and I immediately noticed that while everyone was paddling, this guys was laying on his stomach on is board with a swimming motion. He’s not going to that for 25 minutes I though. As one who swims, I know it’s easy to swim for 25 minutes, but, I started thinking about the sharks and barracudas who could be lurking in the shadows under the boat. Certainly, I would rather paddle. The St. Croix team had the perfect strategy. After all, it was the sixth time they were doing it and easily broke away from the field. I learned they were defending their title and had finished second every time before that. At 25 minutes was the changeover, after the horns sounded. I’m not sure everyone heard the horn as they were quite spread out over Limin’Times Entertainment Guide
the breath taking scenery behind Tortola. We caught up with the leaders finally and I got to see the second to third leg exchange from the paddle board to the boat and vice versa. I wondered if everyone was this efficient, but we were too spread out. “A lot happens,” Andy told me. Then it was time to leave the distance paddlers and race to Sandy Cay for the start of that race. There were at least 26 racers dotting the pristine sand and their colorful boards lined up on the beach. As I watched, the leader from the St. Croix team passed by. Instructions were given and they waited until the second team passed by and the third team came, did their exchange and the woman fell in the water. Geez, I missed that shot!! Then the race started and were these guys fast. Andy headed our cruiser to White Bay. As I packed my camera gear to jump in the dinghy, I saw the 16 year old leader from Puerto Rico coming in. I barely got my camera out and caught him running to the finish line, after beaching his craft. Everyone else followed, including the teams covering the 14 miles trek. Team St. Croix won $2,500 for their efforts and tickets from sponsor Inter Caribbean Airlines, while the trio in the shorter race received tickets. Overall, the Painkiller Cup was a real thriller. 14
