LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

How do you find your next book? Chances are, if you are reading the library newsletter, you are someone who enjoys reading. So how do you pick your next book to read?

Here at the Lincolnwood Library, as you first come through the door, you will see our Hot Picks collection. These are the newest, most popular books and DVDs, and they are exclusively for our Lincolnwood residents. No one can reserve those copies, so as soon as they come back they return to the Hot Picks shelves. Behind the Hot Picks are all of the new materials, and those can be reserved. We purchase more copies whenever the waiting list gets too long. The Youth department has their own shelving for new materials in their area, too.

Let’s say you’re like me and even though you don’t need ANY more books, you love to browse in the bookstore. If you see something that catches your eye, but you don’t really have room in your house or room in your budget for buying the book, here’s an idea: just whip out your phone with the library’s app on it (myLIBRO is its name) and look up that book and put it on hold. Now you’re in line to get that book. Because we are part of a library consortium, you may get our copy or another library’s copy.

Or, let’s say you have discovered that even though you might still love print books, there are some big benefits to using a phone or tablet to read or listen to a good book. You can adjust the size of the type and the brightness of the screen to suit your own needs. In that case, you might want to look at the library’s other app, Libby, where you can download both e-books and e-audiobooks (it’s also labeled the Digital Library of Illinois on our website).

Here’s another way to find a good next book, whether it is for you or your child: you can ask our great staff! Readers’ Advisory is a service we provide whenever you need a little help finding a specific book, or suggestions for other books or DVDs you might enjoy. It can be especially tricky finding a book at the right level for kids, so the children’s librarians are always happy to help you find something just right.

There’s still a lot of summer left for reading. Let us help you find your next great book!
